Original persians and medians have lived in iran and has been stricken in different ways based on invasions and the process that has happened in the history. @MrUSSR26 Uh, no...modern day Azerbaijanis of the Republic of Azerbaijan are descendants from Turcoman tribes. They were originally known as Tatars. The Iranian Azerbaijanis (the real ones) are descendants from the Medians.
Modern day Caucasian Albanians are known as the Udis and are, unfortunately, near extinction.

Iranians have always referred to their homeland as "Iran". This is obvious in mass of Iranian literature such as Ferdosi's masterwork the magnificent "Shahnameh", the pahlavi sources, and so forth.
However, Iran was referred to as Persia in the west and in most non-Iranian text such as the bible. The terms Iran and Persia refer to the same noble nation and people.
JUST TO CLEAR THINKS UP...AZERIS ARE IRANIAN PEOPLE! They speak a turkish language because of the Oghuz/Turk/Mongol invasions and settlements of Iran. If you go to a far away village in some mountain range, they will speak a language closer to Persian than Turkish.

The modern name Azerbaijan came with and from arabian conquerors.
They united two provinces: Atropatena and Albania( Arran) and named them together as Azerbaijan
According arabian administrative division , the soutest city of Azerbaijan was Hamadan, the northest -Derbent (modern south Dagestan) .So there is no mistake in the name of Republik of Azerbaijan

وقتی که اقوام ترک از حدود هزار سال پیش شروع به مهاجرت از آسیای میانه به طرف ایران و ترکیه فعلی کردن ، این مناطق دارای سکنه بودن . یک اقوامی اونجا زندگی میکردن که تعدادشون هم به مراتب بیشتر از این مهاجران بوده. چون که اگر تعدادشون کمتر از مهاجران ترک بود، پس در این صورت ما آذری ها و اهالی ترکیه الان باید همه شبیه مغول ها و ترکمن ها میبودیم. در حالی که به هیچ وجه اینطور نیست

200 years later Seljuk was defeated by another savage army known as Mongol in 1243 and finally a group of Turk in north east of Anatolia (Turkey) headed by Mehmed II managed to capture Constantinople (Istanbul) and create Ottoman dynasty and the Turkey.

No significant difference was observed in HLA class II allele distribution between these populations except for DQB1*0503 which showed a higher frequency in Kurds. Neighbor-joining tree based on Nei's genetic distances and correspondence analysis according to DRB1, DQA1 and DQB1 allele frequencies showed a strong genetic tie between Kurds and Azeris of Iran.

The genetic relationship between Kurds and Azeris of Iran was investigated based on human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II profiles. HLA typing was performed using polymerase chain reaction/restriction fragment-length polymorphism (PCR/RFLP) and PCR/sequence-specific primer (PCR/SSP) methods in 100 Kurds and 100 Azeris. DRB1*1103/04, DQA1*0501 and DQB1*0301 were the most common alleles and DRB1*1103/04-DQA1*0501-DQB1*03 01 was the most frequent haplotype in both populations.
