thats not how it works. the value of a nation's currency is govern by how much assets that nation has. their major production was from farming but the lands all lay unused and useless now and their assets are disappearing. without without the assets to back up the currency you get inflation as the value of the currency adjusts to what it can buy. the country's infrastructure is completely ruined so the economy collapsed, making the bills higher are for convenience for carrying around.
