Thank you for this video. I am into genealogy and many family tree leaves and twigs were from Lochgelly and so many of the street names I have found in my searches. Really enjoyed seeing Lochgelly.
The Jube was still open too. Oh, How I miss playing pool and blethering drunken shite in the Jube on my dinner breaks when I worked in Firth Buildings on Auchterderran Road...
The more things change the more they stay the same. Let's see... the Royal Bank then is a house now; there's a mini roundabout at the junction at Lochgelly center these days. I suppose main street will look really different nowadays with some old buildings flattened and new flats and shops going up.
Anybody notice the Co op is in exactly the same place more or less? Ha!
Lochgelly was a toilet then just as it is today. I returned to Lochgelly last year for a visit and am glad that at 18 I got out for a new life in Stockholm. Wouldn't want to live there again.
Sorry Andy but I couldn't disagree with you more. Lochgelly lacked and probably still lacks any beauty to behold but it is my hometown of which I am proud of and of which I still hold fond memories. The inhabitants were and probably still are the salt of the earth. Where I now live (Germany) I am nothing more than a second class citizen (Untermensch) and have to prove every day of every year that I've just not climbed down from the trees. Now I never experienced that in Lochgelly. Did you?
I passed through Lochgelly for the first time in ages on Monday. The reputation of Lochgelly as a toilet is a tad unfair. I have lived in London and can assure everone that several parts of London would merit this accolade more than Lochgelly.
No, the people I knew there when I lived in Lochgelly were the salt of the earth. Was shattered to see how much the town has declined - boarded up shop fronts etc - during my last visit there in 2008 - my first visit for 25 years. And you might like to know that as a non-German living in Germany you are ALWAYS, I repeat ALWAYS a second class citizen. Irrespective of what you can do you are treated as like something that has just climbed down from the trees.
Rene, I remember you, we were in the same class at Lochgelly South Primary School. I lived in the house at the top of the High Street and The Avenue. All ra best to you. Stu ;-)
i remember you Rene , you lived next to nicky simpson , i used to hang out with him , last i heard you went back to Argentina !! hope you are doing well my friend ..
hello ian hope you love germany, because lochgelly is the pits. remember being at your 5th birthday party ion launcherhead road when your wee dog pooped
Thanks, just wish I could have done a bit more. Understand that a lot has changed there since I last was there (1988). Will shortly be adding several more Lochgelly clips including a 10 minute film of the opening of the Lochgelly Centre in 1976. Not sure if you'll be able to see your auld hoose on that one though.
I'm in Ballingry, drive thru' there most days, place has changed a fair wee bit. No opera house or Old Conemarra pub, loads of new houses an redevelopment.
Not a bad idea. The film was taken using an 8mm cine camera. Film was then very expensive. With todays technology it would be easliy possible to film every nook and cranny there. Was last in Lochgelly in 1988 (live now in Germany) but might do that next time I'm there
i hope someones done this for glenrothes at about this time that would be class

This was a few years before I was born.
It's pretty much the same now, apart from the new Co-Op and flats, the Royal Bank being a private house and the post office moving to Main Street.
Also, the ex-serviceman's club in North Street has long gone, along with the bus depot in Auchterderran Road.

then go back to Lochgelly then if London, the capital, is a toilet. So why didn't you just stop in Lochgelly and stay.
anddyx 2 years ago
So you live in Germany. Is that why you got out of the toilet that is Lochgelly? Hmm!!!
