  • @Scorpionwacom no he would not need to put a gum or knife to you because he would hypnotize you and it would WORK. It AWAYS does.

  • hm. nice video

  • I love people who think that THEIR too clever too be fooled by NLP. Their just too good and not at all gullible like this fool. The beauty is it is THESE very people who are the easiest to influence and work with.

It is those who want to be part of the act, who want to be involved and want to have it done on them that, alas, we cannot seduce.

    One of lifes beautiful ironies.

  • I thought the bottle would have been reciprocation as described in "influence, the psychology of persuasion" by... I wanna say Cialdini? Can't quite remember his name.

  • Im not sure if any americans or anyone outside the uk actually knows this yet but as said below...

The police released a statement saying he and his production crew WERE using blanks.

Derren claimed that he was "risking his life"

Fair enough he is an illusionist... and i know its not magic for obv reasons... But i didnt like the fact that he still lied to us willinly knowing that he wasnt allowed to actually "risk his life"

  • The only interesting thing about Derren Brown is that his parents can't spell Darren.

  • It was revealed recently he was using blanks and that no-one was in any danger whatsoever.

  • DB would make one HELL of a successful criminal.

Good thing he makes a shitload on TV so he doesn't have to do this kind of stuff to get by.

  • If I wanted to impress the audience that way, I would hire an actor, who assists me. Than I would add some “theoretical basis” like hypnosis or some kind of mind control. On the other hand, the stupidity or rather trustfulness of some humans is infinite.

Yes, I’m a human and my attention is not perfect—I may accidentally hang my chess piece in game, but Derren Brown would need to cut my pocket with a knife or threaten me with a pistol to get my wallet.

  • rapport

  • whats that word, he keeps saying..is it repore, report?, repour??

  • @SoyAussie rapport

  • From what I have done with covert Hypnosis with simple pacing and leading and anchoring, this is not a surprising result.

  • Not as good as the stuff in the Mindreading Exposed ebook

  • thats nice....u agreed that he is a genius....and also great analsis....

  • that guy's face in the end is all like W T F ??? lol

  • in my opinion the biggest part was when derren said u dont mind me asking then said no no ur happy with giving me that

i think that he roots that into their mind then they are more acceptable with giving away wallets phones etc.

note in the videoo he said ur happy with giving me that to every person who he tried the scam on

  • 777771 views, wow =O

  • i think you should go look up the word illusion, scam is a harsh word to use.

it would be like not saying magic but calling magic scams

  • exactly like he did when he was in USA and paid for items with paper. He only shows the couple of times it worked....not the hundred or so times it failed. So the viewer thinks it must work everytime. For it to work you have to have the persons attention.....build up a rapport very quickly so that the person is relaxed and not on his guard.....and the use a pattern interrupt so that the persons mind switches to the subconscious where thay then just follow instructions.

  • I teach NLP and know exactly how Derren Pulled this off as I have done this in A Shop to get items for free. It does'nt work all of the time and this is how Derren fools the viewer........he prob tried this about 50 times and managed to pull it off TWICE.....and its the 2 successfull ones he includes into his show, so the viewer does'nt know about the 48 times he failed.

  • only works for the retarded.

  • OK....whatever.....if derren brown handed me a bottle, I'd crack the sob over the head with it!....hold your own sh!t....BOY!

  • You come across as being an excellent observer !!!! You are right on the ball, it's all about suggestions and basically confusing the hell out of the victim (sheep) but you do it in a nice trusting gentleman like manner ;-) I find the large majority of people are susceptible to hypnosis, though some are complete victims!!

  • why is "stooge" not the most reasonable explanation?

  • @htomerif its derren brown and hes a genius he doesnt need stooges! Also my brothers had stuff done on by derren and he is no stooge...

  • @tricky12321 He doesn't use stooges huh? Watch this video: lf82QOqJTt8 and then read my comments (if they arent deleted.) Then tell me he doesn't use stooges.

  • Could someone recommend me a book on some of these topics? "Pattern breaking" for example. Thanks.

  • great breakdown on this. ive been studying nlp a little nit here and there. i got one question though. how would the water bottle be considered an anchor? isnt an anchor, by definition, any stimulus that evokes a response? and also dont anchors cause a change of state? by your breakdown the change of state was caused by the pattern break in the hand shake, and the water bottle didnt evoke a response. but during the 2nd time scamming him, the water bottle definitely did both.

  • @180wally also, it seems like the water bottle was more of a 2nd anchor/pattern break within a very short time frame. pretty much during the end of the handshake. kinda like he wanted the guy to be wondering "why the hell is this guy holding my hand?" then replaced it with the water bottle to relieve him of it and make him comfortable just as he starts to scam him. if so, what would this technique be called?

  • @180wally he gave him the bottle the first time at a time where he was feeling the state necessary to take all his stuff, thus connecting that feeling to that action which was resurfaced when he did it the second time.. Im no expert but ive flicked through some applied stuff a while back.

  • Dang...Derren melting peoples' brains once again. I love this guy. Amazingly, this also works on non-Europeans as well, like East Asians. Weird

  • holy shit i forgot how nasty youtube looked back then hahah

  • look.. hypnotisism is what people believe it to be, in actual fact the people who do get hypnotised would more than likely just get on stage and do what they are asked with out all the showmanship, all it does is relaxes you you and it can't do anything that you normally wouldn't do.. any psychologist knows this.

  • or is just an actor staged trick

  • @artemeeb if derren brown used actors, one of them would have let the cat out of the bag by now. no, he fools the audience more than he fools the people he uses in his tricks. but all the nlp/hypnosis/psychological control stuff is total bullshit. he just is great at making his audience believe it, that's what makes him a genius

  • @Harrisonmon i understand all youre saying, but you cant dismiss actors the way you did. he could have had them sign privacy forms so that they would be sued if they did say anything.

  • @Harrisonmo Agreed and I would addHe does use some NLP theory like using suggestive words and subliminal messages but that's about it. There is very little truth to NLP but in a limited sense it does have some effective teachings. What is so ironic is if you watch enough Derren Brown videos some websites try to use him as an endorsement even though he doesn't actually believe in psychological controls or NLP. Its like as if psychics used derren brown as an example of a good psychic lol.

  • @Harrisonmon "He does use hypnosis and nlp, I have read trick of the mind and other stuff and the mans a flippin genius man"

  • @Harrisonmon Explain this.. if he doesn't use actors and the man in this video that he is tricking, is therefore not an actor. How else would he be able to get the man to do what he wanted him to do? Unless it was hypnosis/some other mind control...?

  • @Harrisonmon Basically, what I'm getting at.. is that when you apply your theory to the above scenario, you end up with a contradiction in your statement.

  • Not bad

  • good analysis.

  • Its basic human physiology

  • You are a smart guy

  • I have trouble believing this shit is real...

  • Wow! Nice work, thanks!

  • im anti abortion of handshakes

  • Hey man, this is a very thoughtfully made video, thanks.

  • Mysterybox...forget all that mumbo jumob and look up "stooge"

  • @OtagoMark So I guess all the people reporting being robbed like this in Russia are stooges too?

  • @frankovich213 Stooge isn't the word I'd use... Stupid is probably a better word.

  • @OtagoMark Derren does not use stooges, these techniqes are all real and scientificly proven. Do you really think he could have a career in this type of thing for over 10 years now with out being shown to have stooges? I have seen him live, he picks audience members by the use of a frisbee so it is completely random. He does similar things to theese random people on stage.

  • @Mrcharliem251 He didnt toss a frisby into the street

  • @OtagoMark I know, I am using it an an example that Derren does have theese skills so he has no need for him to use a stooge. Once again, he been in this business for over 10 years now, not once has he been shown to use stooges, There are professionals that analyse this and can tell if the victim is acting or not through body language etc.

  • @Mrcharliem251 Did it occur to you that he may have tried this with 100 people before he got a hit?? and ofcourse you only get to see the success? everyone has these "skills" its just an odds game

  • @OtagoMark If you watch the full show, he shows you he doesn't get it right all the time. The majority of people it will work on though.

  • @Mrcharliem251 Majority? no. I don't doubt this is possible.. but majority? you sucker.

  • @OtagoMark You need to do some research, then you will find out the techniques he uses are proven to work. Science accepts this because it's been proven to work in experiments. I don't understand why it's so hard to believe?

  • @Mrcharliem251 I haven't once denied that they work?? so don't need to accept any more than I do...

You need to accept that not everything you see on tv is as it appears, He may have had to perform this trick dozens of times to get a good result like he did...you so a majority of clips where he does make it work and you're like "wow! hes got skills" hhehee

  • @Mrcharliem251 An objective, SCIENTIFIC study of the Russian Scam (not a trick unique to Mr. Brown) showed that it works about 10 to 30 % of the time. That is not a majority.

  • @Mrcharliem251 Actually you complete moron I didnt say he used stooges.. get ya facts right

  • I recently came across two tricks. In the first, square the numbers 2 through 10 then pick a number between 12 and 5. In the second trick, you are asked to add 1+5=6 2+4=6 3+3=6 5+1=6 ,etc ,then rapidly repeat the number 6 over and over, and then quickly think of a vegetable. In the first case,I and the large majority of the 30 or so people I tried it on came up with the number 7,and in the second case, almost all of us came up with "carrot".I thought about it and think...READ BELOW

  • ..Between 5 and 12, 7 is archetypal(7days/week,lucky 7,etc.) In the second case,"carrot" seems to be archetypal(at least in America),given that, when asked to quickly name a vegetable, most people choose from perhaps 4 or 5 items, the most common being "carrot".I googled "archetypal vegetable"(try it) and was led to Derren Brown and NLP.It seems the basic principle common to the 2 tricks, D.B's work and NPL is to distract and then lead to narrow choices, either existing or planted. Am I right?

  • How did you learn all this stuff? Recommend any books? I want to learn more

  • just to add to the bottle of water part- this also acts as a form of reciprocation. i give you something, you give me something. only difference is that here the reciprocation is forced on the guy thru obligation. extra pressure is applyed due to the guy being forced to recieve the gift (water).

i read this from a book recommeded by derren:

    robert cialdini ph.d - 'influence'

  • i miss when youtubes layout was like that

  • you forgot nlp and hypnotism but pretty spot on hexcane

  • Think you've nailed it...even so it is amazing.

  • Anyone who falls for this is a complete idiot.

  • Im not angry or defensive, I just wrote the correct words to get you annoyed!!!! Please dont assume that somebody is less intellengent/more intellegent than anyone else. Everybody understands the world in different ways. MOST people would NOT fall into this trap even if Darren Brown is a member of mensa.......

  • i tried this 5 times haha it only worked twice out of five times

  • whats repor?

  • @buckckck rapport

  • @buckckck Rapport is building an emotional connection with someone else, and is important because people do not comply to your hypnotic suggestions without some basic level of trust

  • Also, Bar staff can work long hours, get into a routine and trance like states. I have done it for a while and it makes you tired. If somebody gives you a large note it needs to be checked and usually signed for by another member of staff making it difficult for a con man. Most customer would not say a word if they were given the wrong change and mistakes happen often when you are tired. Whether your attention was being distracted intentionally is debatable but mistakes happen.

  • If anyone comes even remotely close to me on the street I stand well back. I will be polite and answer questions but never trust anyone especially if im on my own like this guy. Pick pockets have great skills to distract your attention. Darren Brown is so overly confident I would have had my street cap on in a second...a con man out for fun...and took 3 steps back. There is no way I would have shaken hands with him or held his bottle. You dont know what he has been doing with them?

  • @wirelessboiler what you dont understand is that derren brown is smarter than you, he already knows you wouldnt respond to suggestion and would ignore you without you even knowing hes noticed you...

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @wirelessboiler lol the guy knows every pyschological technique under the sun - why are you so angry and defensive?

  • @wirelessboiler yes very " intellegent"

  • it is very disappointing that there are people who believe that Derren Brown is not a cheater with many colleagues.. something like Cris Angel...

  • the only true explanation is that derren brown is the DEVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!^^

  • 2nd continuation...... when i ask for the money if they feel like they have given me something already (subconciously) they are much more comfortable saying no, their subconcious is satisfied at already being a good host ( most people would assume reinforcement in this case.... nope, backwards)

  • continuation of previous post....... in sales, there was something i did that is based on this principal but backwards....... when on a sales call at someone's house, people (most) will offer you something to drink maybe even food (if i'm there for 2 hours) ALWAYS decline... why? i don't want them subconciously feeling the satisfaction of having given me something when at the end of the appointment I ask them for money........ you have to control the mind before you can control the cheque book

  • actually, first time i watched it i thought the bottle was the KEY, not because it acted as anchor and recalled the trance state......... much simpler

you give him the water bottle, subconciously the guy knows he got something from you and his to give an item back.......... then he asks him forall the other stuff first and only after he takes the bottle...... subconsiously the guy feels like he has to give him something, not specifically the bottle, so gives him whatever he asks for..continue

  • Nice explanation. I swear one day I will be able to do 'one' of his 'tricks', so to speak.

  • I always thought the bottle was there not only as an anchor but also so the mans subconscious thinks I'm holding something that's not mine I need to give him something back causing him to be more willing to give you his stuff.

  • Hey Mystrybox, The pointing at the start is more of a suggestability test than a rapport builder

  • There's a much easier explanation. A paycheck. Derren Brown is a charlatan. He always has been. NLP is the new psychic channeling. Getting people to keep your secrets is not difficult, you make them sign a non-disclosure, hand them some money, and looky there, you're a wizard, and anyone trying to sell you out is getting sued! Not to mention his shows have disclaimers that basically say anything he's doing on the show might be fake.

  • @ReasonedScience Derren Brown admits to all of his illusions are just that, illusions, tricks. That is what the disclaimer is for. Brown is an atheist and admits that his tricks are based on tricking the human mind, not on some supernatural talents.

  • Nice. Thanks for making this video!!

  • Darren doesn't try to deceive anyone. He tells everyone that he uses NLP and Hypnosis. Look at Darren Brown's video NLP and he shows how he guides the thought process. I don't understand why we need you to explain this video to us. It isn't like you are doing an expose' of Chris Angel's "magic."

  • @FHSmithJR Who's darren brown?

  • ur a smart guy :O

  • you have spelt mystery wrong lol

  • this was so cool! thanks for the explanation!

  • ok i am an expert in this and you are spot on how he does this, good job!!!!

  • Rapport is a french word. the T is not pronounced. well said.

  • DAREEN EXPLAINS THIS HIMSELF YOU FUCKING MELLON LATER ON IN THE PROGRAMME

  • @Testostrone250: then he's clearly only seen the clip, not the program.

  • haha the old youtube layout

  • You have to have balls to practice this scam on the street. Somebody might get wise to you and you'll get the beating of your life!

  • @MishuTaste if you look closely, derren tests a couple of times if the victim is responding or not. When he approaches, he just askes for directions. When he gets the feeling, that the person is responding to his action, he goes further.

Of course there's a risk, but he can stop anytime if he gets the feeling it doesn't work.

(you see it, when he steps back and the guy follows him. Derren explained, that this is his test, if there is a connection he can use or not. )

  • Mystry I think he give the bottle cuz its like "I gave you something, now give me something".. Just makes it natrual for the guy to give him the stuff, "Look we give.."

  • whats anker???

  • "You're happy to- forget that"

If you watch he offers his hand to shake here but he realise he isn't responding and quickly says "Forget that" and the guy instantly does. He then goes back to the mimicking with the pointing to get him back in the right state and then he stares at his hand before shaking it the second time.

  • awesome video man

  • great xplanation..totally genious !! thnx..

  • He comes right out and says it. In reference to giving directions. But he says "You're happy giving me.. "

  • thanks so much for the explanation, I didnt noticed his technique until i watched your video

  • derren brown is the puppet master

  • This is great! I think you have done a perfect analyse!

Im also interested in these kind of things. In Sweden, we have a man called Henrik Fexeus who does similar things as Derren Brown, you should check him out if you can find any videos with subtitles.

  • darren brown is well respected in stage magic and mentalism. his videos offer much special info and sometimes he even tell public how to protect ourselves. yes darren is a genius in those notions and more.

  • A famous medical doctor introduced his studies of hypnotism and post hypnotic suggestion. Medical Science Introduced magic theories of animal magnetism, long before publication of Origins and Darwinism was inserted into mainstream consciousness. Creating illusions, relies on conditioning the receiver for post-hypnotic suggestion. Condition the acceptance of illusion, as fact. An Evil Illusion, a planted diabolical Hoax, Piltdown Man 1913-53. Evolution, sustained with no legitimate"missing link".

  • Very astute analysis! You could almost practice!

  • great vid. thanks

  • Nice video. Genius.

  • lean real hypnosis at freeundergroundhypnosis (dot) tk

  • good video? i've never heard such a monotone boring voice.

  • oh its genuine btw. bouncers use some of these tequniqes on drunk people (who btw are more open to it). an efective form of mind control is to as displayed mirror body language & bring about a pattern of "agreement" by where the subject is being given statements in quick succession they are likely to agree strongly with. when they begin to nod thier head you strike.

  • ohi am soo lonelyy any one up for some chatting with a cute girl

  • You learned this in psychology class or what? Surely you didn't learn to recognize all those hypotizing techniques on the web.

  • @snowstorm9091moua

i knew all this myself too...all learned from the web and a bit of personal experience.

the web is a GREAT tool...if you know what youre looking for and lots of free time.

  • Very good explanation. Clearly you know just a few things about mind control/NLP. I thought you did a very good job putting this together. Thank you.

  • i want to try it . only for fun though lol

  • WHy Does The video of the russian scam got only 4 star ??

  • Thanks for the explanation! I was a bit reluctant to watch, but when you made it obvious this is your theory and not trying to rat DB out, I got more comfortable. Thanks for posting! I'm actually a BIG fan of the Russian Scam! :)

  • If this is genuine this is one of the fucking coolest things ive ever seen.

  • dam man can you please post more of these great explaination video's

  • If you will give something and it withdraw somebody return if it is honest

  • lol are you serious? Chi? We are not living in dragon ball world

  • hahahahahahahahhaah! :))

  • Chi is what some Chinese cultures believe to be there soul and power and their centre aswell. but yeah. no dragonball lol

  • @kamikaziu chi is real, you can develop it. see qi gong. :)

  • @kamikaziu No,chi ...is right!

  • if derren can use subliminal messages to make someone stick to the couch i wonder if there is a technology that can do it remotely. he seems to use a lot of technology just a thought

  • correct,

and if you search on youtube subliminal messages it will show you the implanted satanic messages in everything... its in everything... if Derron Brown can use subliminal messages to stick people to a couch... then why can't Disney mc donoalds etc. promote themselves and satanisms tru' subliminal messages... in other words if you think this works then search subliminal messages and it will always lead you to satanism or illuminati... i dont mean to scare you but... its the truth

  • If you care to study Derren's books you'll find out that he uses no such powers whatsoever. He is a great showman, and he uses a combination of classic magic trickery, hypnosis and some NLP.

  • Plus, Derren doesn't like what some people say about NLP and you can't trust what people say on the internet (the reference at the end of the video).

  • @alexoidztube he uses no NLP

  • @mrjedidja Anchoring is often used in NLP

  • @mrjedidja He uses quite a bit in some of his stuff- anchoring and eye accessing cues as well as patern interupts and the handshake induction. The rest, is brilliant showmanship!

  • @alexoidztube i'll repeat - he uses no nlp, he hates nlp. it's just a trick. ;)

  • @mrjedidja Incorrect! Derren studied NLP but hated the way he automatically got a certificate to do "therapy" -according to his book "Tricks of the mind".

The Russian scam was actually used as a form of "passive mugging" and uses leading, pacing and the confusion technique. Derren combines trickery with rapid induction hypnosis (some would call NLP).

If you doubt that hypnosis is used like this- check out Anthony Jacquin, who teaches "street hypnosis".

  • @alexoidztube Yeah, I agree with that, but he uses no NLP. The techniques he uses are older than NLP and have much simpler explanation than NLP.

  • @mrjedidja OK, I think we may have found common ground! Perhaps, it fairer to say that NLP has packaged older techniques originating in hypnosis and Eriksonian hypnosis.

  • ive seen guys do this with chicks. they almost act as a magnet and slowly move away from them while talking and they just pull them round a room

  • i still dont get why the man gave him his possessio.. wth??

  • I have had a similiar thing pulled on me twice. the 2nd time I was wise to it though. Its a common scam used in pubs.

Barman tend to get into a trance like state after working a few hours at a bar doing the same thing over and over, the con man comes in and buys a drink, pays for it with a large note then as your getinng change he talks to you to break your pattern and then admits that he actually has enough change so you give him his large note back and end up giving him the change too.

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • @MystryBox Do yuo know any GOOD NLP websites?

  • @ChelleLane Yeah, I'm a dealer at a casino, and surprisingly you get a lot of people try that, but it doesn't work aswell seeing as we've got procedures for the cameras.

  • @ChelleLane hahaha no wonder when I pulled a 20 dollar bill out on New Years for my drink I got 42 Back in Change ahhahaaa. I tipped him the 2 dollars so I dont feel bad, but I made 20 bucks and got a free drink hahahaaa.

  • amazing analysis.

  • @thekingdomofernor weather this is stage or not, i dont know. But rapid hypnosis is real -- you can suggest someone to give you their belongings. If you happen to do any research about people being mugged and can't remember how, thats probably the reason because thats exactly how our brain works. CIA spent alot of money researching and studying alot of types of psychological, umm, 'things'. Haha. sorry its not just aim at you by the way; its for all non-believers =)

  • I still can`t believe that it wasn`t staged. I heard a lot of stories like when people hand they money and stuff to gypsies in the same state of `hypnosis` but I`m still kinda skeptic about these stories.

  • items he said are just every days items that people have on them. Keys wallet, A watch that he can see on the man, as well as cellphone.

  • how did darren brown know the guy had those things on him ?
