I met John Lennon that day at the preawards dinner, he autographed A Spaniard in the works for me,I took a picture of him and shook his hand and thanked him for the music and great times.
okay...with the exception of the novelty tune: Midnight at the Oasis...which should not even have been nominated...the worst remaining song won. The Grammy's are too political.
You have Joni Mitchell, Elton John, Roberta Flack....and the winner is...Olivia Newton John?
The day after Lennon was shot, I was standing on the street outside the Dakota, along with hundreds of others, and Paul Simon walked right past me to get into the Dakota, where he lived. He looked just as devastated as everyone else, I can't imagine what he was thinking since he was a personal friend and neighbor to John and Yoko.
Those were the days when artists still did stunts and not just cared about what was good for their career. Jolly good times! John was witty and brilliant as always. §: )~
man except for the witty commentary grammys were considered shit..like right behind john and simon,,i can see some people sitting around a table doing paper work...

This cracks me up! The subtle and not-so subtle wisecracks. Quick wit, all three of them. It does not seem at all scripted to me. I remember seeing this on tv back then. It was the only truly cool thing that happened that night. The Grammies were so hokey in those days. Totally cornball. I still like to come back and watch this gem now and then for laughs.
@flakbac - Good morning. I fully respect your right to your opinion, however, I would like to, gently, ask what's wrong with John L. deciding to stay home with his son? John was an absentee & negligent father to his first child, Julian, who was born just as Beatlemania hit. Having been abandoned by both parents at age 5, John decided to get fatherly responsibilities right the second time around. Softly, I'll ask what's wrong with that? Peace.
Someone was downing Art on here a while back, saying they didn't know why he was famous because he was only a back- up singer to Paul Simon. A lot he knew. Obviously he never really listened to S&G before he made that comment. Just for starters., Art was the lead singer for the entire Graduate soundtrack. Yes, Paul Simon is a genius, but Art has a voice Paul only wishes he had. Why do you think he had Art do all the hard stuff.
@jules608123 - Hello. Yes, I also dislike hearing people minimize Art G.'s contribution. In addition to his golden tenor vocals, Art G. played the piano & the guitar; often assisting Paul S. w/ the writing, ART GARFUNKEL also PRODUCED many of the tracks, laboriously working through all the possible technical & instrumentation combinations. BOTH HAD EXTRAORDINARY ABILITIES which, when combined, produced a sound which will be heard for centuries. SIMON & GARFUNKEL = LEGENDS. Peace, All.
@mjcamck71 Yes, I believe that S&G's music will go on into eternity as classics along with the likes of Bach, Beethoven, etc. Great talent and great music are timeless. Art Garfunkel's voice....there has never been one like it, nor will there be. It is a gift from heaven and one day, hopefully not for a long, long time; Artie will sing for God Himself.
@jules608123 Oh man, listen to this guy. Sucking on Art Garfunkel's dick like a second and third job. Dude... I like Art as well. But holy smokes. You need a racist hug.
@mjcamck71 Very well-said, i am a fan of S&G and feel really annoyed with the people underrating Art's talent. His voice is the perfect addition to Paul Simon's music.
@TenStoryLoveSong Surely that's worth something! Also Homeward Bound, For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her, April Come She Will, America - those are definitely awesome tracks
@VoodooChileJ11 A handful of nuggets from an annoying, short-arsed religious freak. I'd still rather sacrifice the songs not to have him on the face of the planet. Grotty little man.
Bah. You read all the things he said after the split (I wanted be myself again, not be a beatle anymore, that was cramping my creativity, and so on. I won't mention the revolution phase of the earlist period in NYC) and then he takes part (and apparently delighted too) to this apotheosis of stars and stripes corniness.
I have read that Lennon had some sort of high heels in male version on here. Really don't know if it's true or not - but it would fit well since I have seen before that John is slightly higher than Paul Simon and usually much lower than Art Garfunkel.
This is great! But argh, really awkward and tense between Paul and Artie..
That meeting of Paul Simon with Art was really awkward. They actually never got along that well from what I've heard. But they knew how to make great music together that's for sure.

Elton John deserved that Grammy. These types of awards shows in the 70s did not feature the best artists at all. How many Grammys did Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and the numerous other artists with much more talent than these fools win? Olivia Newton-John, really? haha
Haha where's Linda? Too subtle that one!

We're just products of our parents, trying to find our own way in the world with our own culture and music. Just because some people have decided to label rap as popular and give it radio playtime doesn't mean it's all we like or even what most of us like

John is so funny, you can take the boy out of Liverpool, but you cannot take that sarcastic wit Liverpudlian out of the boy... :)

Elton John deserved that Grammy. These types of awards shows in the 70s did not feature the best artists at all. How many Grammys did Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and the numerous other artists with much more talent than these fools win? Olivia Newton-John, really? haha

Honestly what the hell are the odds that Art Garfunkel would end up on stage with Paul Simon, with John Lennon!
When it was announced that Art would accept the award, I actually thought it was planned like that for comedic purposes. Ha ha this is awesome

what's happened to music? Is it that hard to write a decent song anymore? Come on somebody! There's no competition, we need a hero!

When Art (I believe) said where's Linda, John wasn't very happy I think, at least it looked like that.
