I have uploaded a video on my profile. Before and after my operation of me peeing. It shows the improvement in flow rate after a urethrotomy operation.
Had this done last week. I was told to keep the large catheter in for 1 week (removed yesterday (oucheeee). Docs said that if this improves my flow and relieves the pain then if it refoms I will be put straight in for the urethroplasty as a permanent fix. I'm surprised this hasn't meen mentioned here.
hi again just for a tip for anyone who gets a infection like mine ,anytime i have gotten a infection i was put on ciprofloxan tabs 500mg twice a day (12hours between) for 7-14 days ,it costs 100euro to goto a hospitial in ireland and wait 6-8 hours(in a&e) to get the tab then extra 50 euro for your 2 week script (cost of tabs=2 euro each) so the last time i ordered some from india 30@250mg and 30@500mg the 250 got siezed by customs but the 500mg got thru ,
My husband has had this procedure done several times in his life. He is 47 and just had it done again about a week ago. He had gone about 7 years since the last one, which was the longest time in between. His urologist says a more permanent fix is a urethroplasty, but he didn't want to go through that right now. He will have the catheter a total of 10 days, hoping it will ensure the urethra heals open and stays open longer. Make sure you self-cath like the doc says, because it does help.
@roseofsharon71 hi i hope your husband is well how ofen did he self-cath when he was open for seven years? ,i,m getting infections and they are truly annoying atm
@Twoblindmen2009 Yes, my husband is well, thank you. He said he was supposed to use the cath about once a week I think, but the surgeon that did the last surgery told him to use it every day for a certain amount of time, but I can't ask him right now what that time period was. To prevent infections, this surgeon told my husband to keep the cath stored in a gallon-size ziploc bag with iodine. I am also a firm believer in drinking plenty of cranberry juice and water to prevent infections.
I had this operation done 2 months ago... Unfortunately the procedure results reversed. Now I have to do it again. Its not painful at all only the catheter I don't know is taking it out less pain or putting it in...
@sxkurt Yeah it's horible! I am 27 and started having a problem just under 2 years ago. I had a urethrotomy under a year ago and i can feel my problem coming back! I self cath every 2 days to keep my stricture open. If i did'nt self cath i just know it would close fully again....we are left to look aftter ourselves hey!
hi i have been married for ten years (always been faithfull)i had a problem about 1and half years ago where i passed blood on holidays( passed a stone)about 6months after that i got a uti and after 3 days of agony i closed up and had to get a superpubic cather in a&e,after 2 months i got the urethrotomy op ,i self cath now nearly every day i,m in the 10th month after the op all is well atm, but i was nearly closed in several areas from 2cm in ,to the prostate ,i still get pains but not that bad
@Twoblindmen2009 Hi mate, I have been very very lucky. I have never had any problems with infections. It's just one of those things that may happen in the future, but after hearing your story i hope i don't have an infection. It must have been horrible for you.
I am seeing my doc in a couple of weeks as i can feel my stricture getting tight again, even after i cath and go to the toilet afterwards. I wil keep you updated.
@m4553y hi have you had any infections since the op?, i have had one at 4 months, and now another at 10 months ,where one of my testicules swells up to twice the size of the other ,this is really makeing me scared as it take ages to go back down,im washing my hands and doing all sorts yet i still get infections:(
Not to bad mate. Im not sure if it is a permanent fix as i am dilating my urethra 2 times a week.
I would love to not catherise myself for a month or so and see if i have a reduced flow but im doing as my doctor orders! I do notice a better flow rate after each time i catherter. Then again i was dilated to a 22 and my catherter is a sixe 18 very wide!
I am used to doing it now so would sooner carry on for rest of my life than to go back for an op! ;)
I am alot better after the urethrotomy. I can fully empty my bladder. I insert a size 18 catrherter twice a week to help from another stricture forming.
I had this done on Tuesday. I had it done under general. I woke up with no pain at all. A slight pain with the catheter in but the pain when they removed the catherter yesterday morning! OUCH!!
I ended up wetting myself a hour later, the stinging pain when passing urine! OUCH! its getting a little better now i can pee alot better, lets just hope another stricture does not form! ;)
@dranilkhetarpal Hiya Dr. I am awaiting another urethrotomy in the next couple of months. I will keep you updated on my progress. It's thanks to Doctors like you, that us patients can be cured of our disease. THANKYOU! ;)
Very nice sir. I think this is done with the help of resectoscopy sheath, working element & cold knife. But, why the beak of sheath is visible opposite side ? just asking.. excellent work. thanks for uploading.
I'm due to have this procedure on wednesday, I have been told it will be as a day patient and that I will be out the same day, is that normal?

If you have this surgery, or someone who will have it again, I suggest you request that the doctor leave the catheter in longer than a few days.

Yeah i hope to be sympton free too. I can't go through the pain of passing water after them cutting the inside my urethra again!.
Docs are teaching me the self catheter on Monday, i hope it does not HURT! It is supposed to prevent another stricture from forming. But we will see!
Im only 26 and to go through this at this age, i know i will probably have a life long of pee pain!
