  • Did you notice that the batter left after he was called out? Any player that is called out on a bad call normally argues and goes crazy but he left and went to the dugout and didnt say a word showing that he knew he was out and he wasnt gonna get involved.

  • @BillCronin8 Sorry to say, but that doesn't mean he was out. Not everybody goes crazy over a call... Maybe their was some chance if he argued and got ejected that he would have to pay a fine, and maybe he just didn't feel like taking that chance.

  • most less 2:01 if you stop it you can see the hand is already on the bag while the ball isn't anywhere near the third base

  • clearly @2:02 the guys hand is on the bag and the ball is near the leg of the pants of the third baseman.... botched call i'd say

  • yea man safe

  • it's actually a really close call if pause/play and go frame by frame. at first he looks way safe, but if you slow it down i can see why the ump called him out.

  • WOW?? Thats not even fucking close. Third base umpire, you dont have much of a job compared to the homeplate ump and some others on the field. If you cant get a call like that right, you got no business being an ump period.

  • that was a horse shit fuckin call

  • THat umpire must not like the Mariners. THat was the worst call, on an obvious call, I've ever seen.

  • This is why baseball sucks

  • Pause at 2:02 and you'll see the runner's hand not on the base. 3rd baseman blocked it. Umpires get paid to make the right call when it's unpopular. Good call ump.

  • @dave0mary i don' think you can block the base with your foot though

  • @cokeworthy better check the rules ... then 'think'. In OBR (MLB) you do NOT have to have possesion of the ball to block a base. That's the defense's advantage. The offense has the advantage in being free to remove that blockage. ("take 'em out) Atleast from my perspective, he slid into the hand, not the base. Good call. I've been umping since 1991 and I know even before a call is made if it will be unpopular. I'm not getting paid to be popular/unpopular. Nor is Bill Miller. But ...

  • Excellend video. Valbuena was way safe. Bad call. Liked the way Riggleman stayed in Miller's face till Miller ran Riggleman. Riggleman looked like he was trying to light a fire under his team.

  • Soo safe the ball wasn't even there when he slid and touched it... :o

  • you gotta get tossed on that play. that was a terrible call.

  • safe by mile

  • The 3rd basmens foot was on his arm thats why the ump didn't see it:(

  • worth call ever lol

  • bad call bidg time

  • 2008 - both of these teams stunk. last 2 weeks of the season. Crappy call by the ump (what does he care at this point though?) and the 827 A's fans in attendance go wild with excitement.

  • I enjoyed following the crowd's reactions...they cheered when the umpire called Valbuena out, then they soured during the entire argument and when he finally got ejected, they went wild.

  • lmao, yep! that's a's fans for you

  • I remember riggleman when he was with the cubs one time. They were losing by like 7 or 8 runs and riggleman just argued and argued and argued for at least 2 minutes like he wanted ejected! and the ump wouldn't toss him!

  • 2:02 he is out tag is still applied.

  • instant replay in baseball is not a good idea. i don't really like instant replay at all, might as well just have computers calling the games.

  • he was sae befre the thirdbaseman caught the ball how lame

  • he was definitely safe and i dont even give a shit about these teams..i live in miami for christ's sake. If i can see that he was safe on a YOUTUBE video then those are some pretty sad umpires and fans....

  • Get to step'n you can't fade the A's!!!

  • solution: instant reply. go ahead and hate it, it'd solve all this shit in a second.

  • no it does not you can;t even tell from this video bad crappy video and angel. you can even tell what the hell the ball is.

  • what? I prefer English with some grammar and spelling.

And instant reply WOULD solve this, because they wouldn't be watching it via YouTube goofball. They have HD Cameras set up everywhere, so they could just call it up and presto: Correct call.

    Done and done.

  • god your still a moron its a judgement call its not the right or wrong.

And no replay won't help dude you failing to understand with slowing this down. you can see if he was out or safe. Umpires do not have this tool.

you just don't get it. and i got disblites so you can bite my ass

  • if the guy didnt pull up his hand off the bag to call time he would of been safe.

  • first. umpires miss calls. even they major league guys will admit it. instant replay is a good idea for home runs nothing else. second the third baseman did his job and put his league down and block the bag. the runners right hand never thouched and this left looks like is slid on then over the bag while the tag was applied. easy call he is out. nothing worth getting ejected over. i cant say for def. im not there i didnt make the call. but ya he looked out.

  • This happen almsot a year ago people get over it !!!! lol

  • This umpire is retarded or what he was safe

  • he was safe

  • WOW!! what a terrible call!!

  • His left hand is on the base sadler. Terrible call.

  • Down in front!

  • He is OUT!!!! The runner's left hand was blocked by the 3rd basemen's leg. The runner's right hand was never in contact with the base. RING 'EM UP BLUE!!!

And go ahead and toss the 3rd base coach for being a fool.

  • suzuki waz safe. not even close

  • zach no # 51 is ICHIRO everyone knws that

  • he thought he was safe because he put up his hand to call time to clean himself off and the empire said he was out........................LOL

  • I would love to see who ever is #51 for the Mariners get ejected

  • Look at the batter runner's reaction. Base runners usually know if they are out or safe. Based on his body language, he knew he was out.

  • Looks like he blocked the bag...the umpire even pointed to it after he made the out call.

  • Assitant coach should have been tossed first, and head coach to follow. Very simple - judgement calls can not be argued - that is in black and white in the rule book.

  • there is no black and white when half the umpires cant see clear, they fail, that is why insant replay is going into basball... because the umps are retarded

  • Instant replay will NEVER be used to call safe and out. I promise you that. If you thinky uo can do such a great job, how about trying on the uniform and stepping out there??? I am standing by, waiting for the million and one reasons you will not be an umpire. Always the same response when people bitch about umpires and referees... everyone wants to bitch about them but no one is willing to step to the plate and try being an umpire / referee themselves...

  • For the record it has not been decided to put instant replay into the MLB. It is still under negotiation. And it will probably not get passed because that would violate the rule which states that you cannot protest judgement calls. It would mean rewriting "The Official Rules of Baseball" and it will not happen.

  • wow he was safe...

  • The only thing I can guess is the umpire thought his hand didn't touch the base before the tag. Maybe it was on the third baseman's foot at the time of the tag. Tough to tell from this angle. This is one of those calls if you don't call it the way all saw the play, get ready to get rid of someone. I'm surprised the 3B coach didn't get tossed before the manager after the way he reacted immediately after the call.

  • wat safe

  • I COULD EVEN TELL HE WAS SAFE

  • Oh shut up, no you can't. Your watching the video, and not even in the stands.

  • Im an A's fan but still that was a BAD call.

he was safe by a mile.

  • @KrispyC333 Im an A"s fan too, but I think what the umpire was getting at was that runner didnt reach the bag because Barton had his foot on the the side of the third base bag and was essentailly blocking it.

  • i could care less for either team (ima cubs fan) bu i think he was safe

  • he wa safe

  • that's a bad call. Maybe top ten worst ever. You guys saying he was out must be watching another video.

  • acutally that was the correct call he came of the bag.

  • GREAT CALL!!!....he slid into the guys hand not the bag.

  • OUT! OUT! OUT! It's all about covering the base on Defense, Perfect play by Daric Barton

  • he was safe

  • i love the smell at a's games. the garlic fry smell

  • At the angle of 2:02 the glove is not touching him

  • Good video too btw

  • Look, No matter where you are looking at the tv or in the stadium watching the play, you'll NEVER have a good of view and angle as the umpire.

  • @GooGooBear24 yeah. that's what amazes me. How they blow so many calls, when they have the best angle. Ask Don Denginger or the guy tonight who cost the Detroit pitcher a perfect game.

  • @GooGooBear24 True. Thats why when they miss a call like this, its so amazing.

  • @GooGooBear24 that's what jim joyce said

  • @cokeworthy In National Fed (H.School) and NCAA, you may not block a base w/o the ball.

  • @GooGooBear24

The third base coach was standing right next to the umpire and immediately went crazy. That tells me the ump may well have missed this call.

  • It looks like his hand went into the third baseman's foot and he never got to the bag. Good call.

  • From the looks of when the ball got to the glove, they missed the call.
