@2008c6vette my nokia 6500s has a video calling feature and that came out in 2007 and guess what? It has it over 3G and 2G. It doesn't have a touchscreen oh no what am I gonna do. Use the keyboard provided. Life isn't always about touchscreen's.
Apple is better... 1.Apple made the 4 at the beginning of the year 2.Apple, first to have Facetime. 3.HTC copied but made it to where u can Facetime w/o wifi(after the iphone came out) 4.HTC is with all companies 5.Apple, first to have Itunes 6.Who have Itunes now?Every company 7.8 hours of talk time on Apple 8.Running on 4g on Evo drains the battery but only 5 hours of talk time 9.Without Apple the Evo wouldnt be shit & the list goes on & on
Actually the coolest feature I've seen with the htc touch diamond, is the wireless modem ability.
Basically, you first connect to it through bluetooth. Then you put it somewhere in your house/apartment with a good connection to the internet, and then you set it up on your laptop/computer to use it as a modem.
Bam, internet everywhere you go, as long as the phone's got connection.
It does a decent 700/320Kbit because the bluetooth connection's pretty slow. doing it through cable does +3mbit :)
i was undecided between the new HTC and the iphone, i've decided i'm going to buy the iphone, for a few reasons, the iphone software is much better and there's a new version of it coming out in the summer which is a great improvement, there's an apple store where you can buy programs directly from the phone instead of having to download programs for the windows mobile on your pc, the iphone is also faster and more fluid, in the HTC you have to press a few times to get it to do what you want.
the phone isn't faster its just that the touchflo3d interface has slowed it down because it wasn't optimized, if you take that off it will be like 5x faster.
FYI DVAFP, if you jailbreak your iphone, you can install something which i won't say here, and you get all the apps off the apple shop for free.
Also if you have to do it multiple times you're obviously doing something wrong, plus with some files you can download it and install it directly on the phone just like you can with any other phone. Hell my viewty does that.
It's the fact that not many have used a HTC PDA before, and not many have actually even heard about HTC.
The fact that most offices has apple computers for work stations gives them the idea that the apple iphone will be as good as apple's actual computers, but the fact is that it's not meant for a hard buisness day, it's meant for an ordenary phone with more user customizabilities.
I say they'd chosen the HTC if they had had more time with it, like over a weekend or so.
yes definatly i have the htc touch diamond, most people go for iphone because big screen and the lame stupid application's eg beer and popcorn app's well guess what the htc touch diamond has the beer app plus htc touch diamond has copy and paste and it can use bluetooth properly and you can hand write on it, can you do that on the iphone.
There just phones, in the end Iphone is a fashion statement, HTC diamond is for people who actually need a smartphone for business purposes. Iphone is not a smartphone.
i have the htc touch pro for sprint and i must say that it blows the iphone out of the water. it has a much higher resolution than the iphone, better camera, etc. one thing that i do like about the iphone better than the htc touch pro is that the glass screen for the iphone is a little more responsive because it senses the heat from your finger and the htc senses pressure on the screen. but really it just depends on user s oppinion.
I just got the HTC Touch diamond for sprint and its hell of alot better than my friends iphone 3g my back is smooth on the phone so if u perfer the smooth back go to sprint there version is smooth and red a really nice fone
geez those people asked wrong citizen you should ask the right person to compare witch gadget is better, obviously touch diamond is more advance than the iphone 3g :P
obviously?? the touch diamond isn't even considered to be more advanced than the iphone, you still really need a stylus, a standard touch panel just isn't as responsive as a capacitive screen when it comes to finger control.. and that's why you pay that amount of money isn't it.. htc brought out the touch HD as a real iphone competitor.. but even there it's doubtfull
The Touch Diamond is in a different league to the iPhone - most of its specifications are multiples of what the iPhone has (apart from size - its much smaller than the iPhone). And even PDAEssentials, a magazine written by iPhone fanboys, had to admit that the HTC Touch HD is better than the iPhone 3G - the slick interface, combined with almost unbelieveable specifications, really does show up the iPhone's lack of features. (I also love how it's physically smaller, and yet has a bigger screen).
why thank you, aren't you charming. Sigh... i used a touch phone with stylus for 1,5 years, and I found that when your phone is your agenda, phone, and portable internet for corporate email and private, a phone with touchtechnology like the Iphone a.o. is a blessing. Stylusses are a hazzard, as are non responsive screens and therefore very frustrating. I don't know your age, but believe me.. screen responsiveness Matters for work and for daily life! Any reasonable person would concur
i just must say that i LOVE reading arguments between people who dont know each other! the one between g400uk and gumdealer328 was one of the best!! so dumb LOL!! and pointless!! and dont bother saying anything in response to me either of u because im sure i will never see this video again...it was boring!
"Bullshit.... I mean, they cut off the 1 million who said yes to the HTC :P"
haha, in the bloopers. my friend has one of those htcs and he tried showing me lyberith and his phone froze. i did my best not to laugh... so i just pulled out my iphone 3g and asked nicely if it is like this one, and mine pulled up fast with out any freezing. to be honest, i havent seen that phone sense, and he WAS so proud of it lol.
The Apple Iphone doesn't have the Copy/Paste functionnality. It seems completely unnecessary but, believe me, it changes everything in the way you use your device, if you use it for advanced things (emails, internet, specific programs...).
The all-powerful iPhone is very overexposed. I wouldn't buy it if they paid me, due to problems with iTunes software I've had in the past! Apple products are better if you already have a Mac at home...
gumdealer328 is just proving what I said weeks ago - this video has been claimed by the iPhone fanboys. (FYI, there's absolutely no way that the iPhone's camera is even similar to the Touch Diamond's camera, and they both have bluetooth, but the iPhone lacks many bluetooth functions. The battery life problems are debatable, as the battery usage depends on how the devices are used - neither device has a particularly good battery life anyway).
The HTC Touch was a similar device, released before the iPhone. As open source as the iPhone's? The iPhone's what? Neither OS is open source, obviously, and Windows Mobile has been open to third-party developers for years, rather than months. Indeed, it is game over - you haven't yet identified a single way in which the iPhone is better.
Not the OS, the apps for the phone. just like Firefox is open source, the add-ons. iPhone Advantages -Bigger Screen, good for videos, photos, internet browser -Better interface -Sleeker design -Better processor -Easier to use full keyboard -Multi-touch surface -Bigger storage capabilities -Cheaper -Made by one of the most known companies on Earth
All of the points above by gumdealer328 are incorrect and demonstrate the general ignorance of iPhone users. Sorry, but Apple has brainwashed you (and many others).
Touch Diamond advantages:
1. Higher resolution screen.
2. More efficient interface (scientifically proven).
3. More compact design (and thinner).
4. Faster processor (the iPhone's processor os underclocked to save battery power).
7. (Touch Pro has a memory card slot, so for more memory, get that)
8. Cheaper (when comparisons are done properly.
9. Why is it amazing that the iPhone has bluetooth? That's a bad point, because it has crippled bluetooth, with many bluetooth functions that most other phones (including the Touch Diamond) have, missing.
(BTW, these are all responses to your incorrect points, above).
there are several ways to text on the touch diamond. you can als otext sideways(iphone cant). with the iphone, you're locked down by more fees and apple junk. the touch diamond is just a handheld computer with more capabilities. it also makes better use of it's accelerometer. not to mention it has video calling. you can also replace the battery whenever needed without going to the store.
you can turn it sideways, its called adding apps that do that, and no your not locked into anything with apple. i pay $100 max a year for mine. its called "jailbreaking" which is legal. which then lets you use your normal plans on the iphone. so no lock downs there. apple's apps have alot of the use with accelerometer. video calling is another app you can add. the battery is the only bad thing.
it also has a USB cable which makes it more convenient. it's $700 because it's better quaility and packed with more stuff. it has a wider variety of apps becasue it runs on windows. im jsut stating the facts.
It's a bigger deal than you think. I used to have a HTC Touch, which ahd pretty much the same camera as the iPhone. It was acceptable, but not great at all. The Touch Diamond's camera can obviously take bigger pictures, but it also has autofocus (makes a big difference) and, unlike the iPhone, videos can be recorded using it. The Touch Diamond has a secondary camera (for video calling) too.
Why are you so mad about open source apps? Windows Mobile has probably had open source apps for many years. Does anyone really care? No. You still completely ignore half of my points, proving that the Touch Diamond is the superior device (which is obvious to anyone with technical knowledge, and who keeps an eye on this industry).
because they make or break it. and your points aren't valid. that's why i ignore them. and i am above you intellectual technical knowledge then you'll ever be. it's impossible for anything to beat the iPhone. some people just don't give in.
lol. I don't even need to defend my technical knowledge, despite having one of the best defences available (:D) - your comment is complete rubbish because nothing is justified. I could say that I have better technical knowledge and insist that the Touch Diamond is better. Does that make it so, or convince anyone else? No. On a side note, the fact that you reply so rapidly to my comments is evidence that you have no life and are therefore out of touch with the real world.
Same here, obviously - that's no excuse. Furthermore, with my Touch Diamond, I can reply whenever, and from wherever, I like. Do I waste my life checking regularly for your replies? No. I'm not going to reply any more, as this has gone way off-topic. Goodbye.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yes it is an excuse. lmfao. you must be challenged. i'm sure you boss can fire you for being the most dumbfuck alive. and since you aren't replying to this, you can fuck off and burn in hell, because you are stupid enough to believe that that big POS can beat the iPhone, you make me laugh so fucking hard lol. see ya later mother fucker.
I bought an HTC Touch Diamond when they first came out, although I sold it within two months and went back to my N95 as I needed the money.
Touch Diamond is a very good device overall with all the features you could want, but as a new Iphone 3g user on the same network (T-Mobile) I just find the whole experience a little more enjoyable. Sure there's no bluetooth a2dp or file transfer but everything else is there (with a few pieces of software). For pure usability the Iphone is a lovely device.
The phone is meant for making call. And check/send emails, Photo, and music. They dont need to have technical background. Its about the user experience. You can have best products which is technically advance but looks ugly and clumsy interface. HTC is good among another phone in the Market expect iPhone. iPhone doesn't have many features like rest (Nokia, Moto) etc. It has sufficient features and best user experience.
You're wrong. A technical background is not necessary to use the devices - it's necessary to judge the devices in such a short space of time.
If this video was a proper scientific study of which device people would actually prefer, it would be ridiculed. Therefore, any conclusions drawn from this video do not show which device is better. Instead, they demonstrate that people go with what they know.
Interestingly, I occasionally see Touch Diamond adverts around London now...
to all the stupid nerds below microsoft do not need to market their product as they earn millions through their normal computers and are still the leaders by far.
They dont need to prove themselves to Apple they are already much higher up the chain.
The fact that you can suggest that after watching this video says three things:
1. Microsoft is rubbish at marketing compared to Apple.
2. HTC is rubbish at marketing compared to Apple.
3. The video is rubbish.
Apple were extending their battle with Microsoft with the iPhone, and the popularity of the iPhone shows how underexploited the market was due to lack of marketing.
But isnt it true, that apple have attained brand loyalty on it's hardware through marketing of its ipod and imac/mackbooks, which makes their product automatically identifiable, whereas microsoft works primarily in software, and has not yet penetrated the portable device market, mainly because it is a fairly recent player?
sometimes, a superior brand will triumph, which is a little sad, but thats the harsh reaility.
i'm not making any judgements on these devices though...
All the features, except the interface, plus a number such as Flash and Java, have been available for about 2 years on Windows Mobile based phones, such as those produced by HTC (and, in this case, owned by me :-). But see spot-on comments from g400uk et al
This has nothing to do with Microsoft's hardware. It's HTC's hardware and Microsoft's software. Microsoft has developed the superior software loyalty through the support given to third-party applications. There are two marketing problems, as I said before:
1. There's extreme lack of awareness of Windows Mobile, what it can do, and what devices it comes on.
2. HTC has only started selling self-branded products very recently and consequently has inferior marketing experience and loyalty.
No. If anything, Apple copied HTC. Why do people think this about Microsoft? Microsoft is in a different leage in terms of the functions its mobile OS offers.
People need to stop this interest in mobile phones, it was a thing of the 90s. Every mobile phone now is just a generic device which does pretty much the same thing and tbh very badly. We're now going from mobiles to HTC devices and then to other interesting mobile communication/connectivity devices which will be seen shortly during the coming years.
I use to be one of those mobile addicts that had to have the latest phone before anyone, but now I stopped caring.
It's not about the latest phone. This is about victims of mimetic desire and blanket marketing. The fact that Apple can announce that they're putting old technology and features into their phone and get cheers from crowds, shows the true sadness of the situation. British TV needs a stronger, more independent gadget programme.
I highly doubt that we will see any other technology based programmes, which are actually decent. I've realised though that there are more and more independent UK based channels on SKY popping up, so maybe it might happen.
A lack of lag is nice, but the problem is that the iPhone has a worse specification than the Diamond and the OS simply as good as Windows Mobile yet. It looks, to me, like this video has been claimed by the iPhone fanboys. Meh.
Actually, you've just reminded us all that he was proved wrong before the iPhone was even released. The HTC Touch was very similar, and yet more compact - although, admittedly, it was still lacking in the UI department (however, TouchFLO showed us that HTC was tackling that issue).
I think the iPhone is more popular mainly because people know and love the brand, and people are hearing all about it compared to the HTC where you don't see it as often
I agree with the original comment - that's the Diamond's only problem. HTC either have dreadful marketing for their devices, or none at all. I don't agree with the replies at all. The fact that HTC lets networks brand the devices as their own doesn't halp either (e.g. O2 XDAs, T-Mobile MDAs, Vodafone VPAs, etc.).
I had HTC Touch Diamoind, but sold it and bought an iPhone 3G instead. It is running alot more smoother than HTC Touch Diamond. Much better interface and very good for e-mails and SMS/call ups. Very good with the iPod installed in the iPhone. The GPS is working very well to!
The only thing you've mentioned there that is useful is the fact that it is smoother, and that's potentially not useful, because the oldest Diamonds had a dodgy ROM with speed problems. You also haven't mentioned how the iPhone 3G makes up for the fact that the Diamond has a better specification, better software included, and better software available.
o please my 3 year old nokia can do more than the iphone, stop comparing that toy whit good phones, my god you are comparing a WINDOWS MOBILE THAT CAN DO ALL! whit a crapy iphone... idiotas!
O! yes and remember copy and paste! jejeje iphone is a joke man(girl, gay) you can love mac and all that, cool no problem, but iphone is really a joke
So, your defence relies almost exclusively on rumors about something that's happening in the future? That's poor...
Oh, and in response to your previous comment, while TouchFLO 3D is probably not quite as customisable, it is a single good 'today' plugin. There are many more included, and thousands more available.
Gotta say I really enjoy watching the gadget show - it is great entertainment and we get to see some of the latest tech. BUT would I ever take their advice?
Diamond and other WinMo based Mobiles are mainly for IT Geeks and Really Business users. IPhone is acceptable (Yes.. Only acceptable) also but for basic users who have only baisc computer knowledge. As It has many drawbacks like: You cannot exchange files through bluetooth, 3G chip added is not the latest. no copy and paste, 2 MP Camera and No video Recording!!, 3rd party apps are controlled by Apple and many more problems which we dont experiance even in basic Nokia phone
They call THAT a review? Most of the people they interviewed, don't know what a WM based device is. They probably use Nokias.
Let's face it, iphone is a multimedia phone. So if you like watching movies and/or listening to music choose iphone.
Diamond, can do what iphone does with movies and music, although in a smaller screen, but Diamond is also a proper business phone whereas iphone, errr not so business friendly...
It's quite simple really, Diamond is better but lost out for looks.
That whole "report" was blatantly biased. It's a shame they didn't give the iPhone a chance to REALLY prove itself, or the HTC a chance to even get played with!!
Crap review, that's not worth anything more than the boost to iPhone users' egos (not that the pompous bastards need it).
I didn't think that was conclusive at all. Excluding the Apple fan, 50% didn't pick either phone, and most of them did admire features that the Touch Diamond had. TouchFLO 3D and the WM interface are more efficient overall, but not as optimised for common functions, so "first impressions" are going to be wrong. Also, this video didn't really talk about the specifications or history of the devices. The Touch Diamond is older, but has a much better specification.
The TouchPro is the business version of the Touch Diamond. Business people like their keyboards for some reason, even if they're those horrible tiny unusable ones. The Touch Diamond is for normal people who don't have such strange needs.
this is the worst vid so far, the iphone has far less facilities 4 a buisness phone all of those people are all idiots and not buisness people and where just going 4 looks
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the iphone has everything they need - push email, push contacts and calendars, more and better designed business apps, made by the people who would also design their desktop software, and full support for exchange which is the most popular business side server out there. plus the iPhone is SO much easier to use and work without needing a full IT department behind you!
Windows Mobile (the operating system on the Touch Diamond) has had push email for ages. And Windows Live Messenger for WM provides a good contact management system too, which can involve Exchange servers, Facebook, Outlook, the WLM contact update subscription, etc. Windows Mobile obviously supports Exchange servers. More businesses use Microsoft Office, which is on the Touch Diamond, and the Touch Diamond is generally more compatible with Windows. I joined YouTube just to point all of this out.
HTC doesn't have a Facebook app. There are two facebook apps available for Windows Mobile, as far as I'm aware, and the Touch Diamond can use the mobile and iPhone versions of the Facebook website, as well as the main version. Beat that!
I would choose the i-phone 3G :-) My friend just got one not so long ago and the apps and everything are really cool. Also it is easy to sync with your computer.
Windows Mobile has had third party applications for years. The Touch Diamond has loads of random handy features, and can sync over bluetooth (I don't think the iPhone can). It also has features that really should be on the iPhone, such as the ability to copy and paste, and the ability to send bulk texts (didn't know that the iPhone lacked that until recently).
The Copy+Paste feature is not there because they did not have time to program that into the iPhone 3G before the launch. This feature might come in an update. What HTC doesn't have is "AppStore" here you can download free and not free applications for iPhone. Today it is almost 400 games, and many is free! Also additional programs like Remote Desktop and so on. You can send bulk texts (send to many people at same time). iPhone do have bluetooth, but I don't know if you can sync over bluetooth.
But you could get an dock for iPhone (very cheap). iPhone does also make to a better Music phone with intergrated iPod (Video). The web browser is also alot better in iPhone, with the best mobile phone browser: Safari
No.. Reports show that Iphone aps run better on the HTC touch, and the Samsung Omnia. Pretty bad when the aps made for your phone, are outclassed by phones running Windows 6.1.
I don't see how the app store is a good thing. It just means that Apple controls all of the available applications. Sure, HTC could have an app store, but why? Many developers have their own websites already, which do more justice to their software than an app store could.

gumdealer328 is just proving what I said weeks ago - this video has been claimed by the iPhone fanboys. (FYI, there's absolutely no way that the iPhone's camera is even similar to the Touch Diamond's camera, and they both have bluetooth, but the iPhone lacks many bluetooth functions. The battery life problems are debatable, as the battery usage depends on how the devices are used - neither device has a particularly good battery life anyway).
g400uk 3 years ago
HTC Touch is just another rip off. is it as open source as iphone's? game over
gumdealer328 3 years ago
The HTC Touch was a similar device, released before the iPhone. As open source as the iPhone's? The iPhone's what? Neither OS is open source, obviously, and Windows Mobile has been open to third-party developers for years, rather than months. Indeed, it is game over - you haven't yet identified a single way in which the iPhone is better.

gumdealer328 3 years ago
All of the points above by gumdealer328 are incorrect and demonstrate the general ignorance of iPhone users. Sorry, but Apple has brainwashed you (and many others).
Touch Diamond advantages:
1. Higher resolution screen.
2. More efficient interface (scientifically proven).
3. More compact design (and thinner).
4. Faster processor (the iPhone's processor os underclocked to save battery power).
5. Handwriting recognition.
[Continued...]
g400uk 3 years ago
(BTW, these are all responses to your incorrect points, above).
g400uk 3 years ago
o wow, y dont you just get it built in for a WAY lower cost.
my points are still valid, taken right of apple's site.
gumdealer328 3 years ago
actually all mine were right, i didn't say faster processor, i said better. and who handwrites? its a touch screen for typing!
gumdealer328 3 years ago
iphone = 2.0 megapixels
htc touch dianmond = 3.2 megapixels(also has bluetooth)
St3ph3nSoWow 3 years ago
not a big deal at all.
look at my list to yours
and iphone has bluetooth
gumdealer328 3 years ago
there are several ways to text on the touch diamond. you can als otext sideways(iphone cant). with the iphone, you're locked down by more fees and apple junk. the touch diamond is just a handheld computer with more capabilities. it also makes better use of it's accelerometer. not to mention it has video calling. you can also replace the battery whenever needed without going to the store.
St3ph3nSoWow 3 years ago
you can turn it sideways, its called adding apps that do that, and no your not locked into anything with apple. i pay $100 max a year for mine. its called "jailbreaking" which is legal. which then lets you use your normal plans on the iphone. so no lock downs there. apple's apps have alot of the use with accelerometer. video calling is another app you can add. the battery is the only bad thing.
gumdealer328 3 years ago
sooo tell me why you dont prefer the iphone instead of the touch diamond. they're pretty much the same...
St3ph3nSoWow 3 years ago
read my comments
gumdealer328 3 years ago
it also has a USB cable which makes it more convenient. it's $700 because it's better quaility and packed with more stuff. it has a wider variety of apps becasue it runs on windows. im jsut stating the facts.
St3ph3nSoWow 3 years ago
It's a bigger deal than you think. I used to have a HTC Touch, which ahd pretty much the same camera as the iPhone. It was acceptable, but not great at all. The Touch Diamond's camera can obviously take bigger pictures, but it also has autofocus (makes a big difference) and, unlike the iPhone, videos can be recorded using it. The Touch Diamond has a secondary camera (for video calling) too.
g400uk 3 years ago
not really, u can't take tha tmuch of a difference and yes the iphone does video. you guys don't have OPEN SOURCE apps to do w/e apps you want.

St3ph3nSoWow 3 years ago
just proving a point that you would respond still.
gumdealer328 3 years ago
why?
St3ph3nSoWow 3 years ago
Why are you so mad about open source apps? Windows Mobile has probably had open source apps for many years. Does anyone really care? No. You still completely ignore half of my points, proving that the Touch Diamond is the superior device (which is obvious to anyone with technical knowledge, and who keeps an eye on this industry).
g400uk 3 years ago
because they make or break it. and your points aren't valid. that's why i ignore them. and i am above you intellectual technical knowledge then you'll ever be. it's impossible for anything to beat the iPhone. some people just don't give in.
gumdealer328 3 years ago
lol. I don't even need to defend my technical knowledge, despite having one of the best defences available (:D) - your comment is complete rubbish because nothing is justified. I could say that I have better technical knowledge and insist that the Touch Diamond is better. Does that make it so, or convince anyone else? No. On a side note, the fact that you reply so rapidly to my comments is evidence that you have no life and are therefore out of touch with the real world.
g400uk 3 years ago
i reply rapidly b/c i work in a computer field as my job dumbfuck!
gumdealer328 3 years ago
Same here, obviously - that's no excuse. Furthermore, with my Touch Diamond, I can reply whenever, and from wherever, I like. Do I waste my life checking regularly for your replies? No. I'm not going to reply any more, as this has gone way off-topic. Goodbye.

yes it is an excuse. lmfao. you must be challenged. i'm sure you boss can fire you for being the most dumbfuck alive. and since you aren't replying to this, you can fuck off and burn in hell, because you are stupid enough to believe that that big POS can beat the iPhone, you make me laugh so fucking hard lol. see ya later mother fucker.

iphone is much better
gumdealer328 3 years ago
I bought an HTC Touch Diamond when they first came out, although I sold it within two months and went back to my N95 as I needed the money.
Touch Diamond is a very good device overall with all the features you could want, but as a new Iphone 3g user on the same network (T-Mobile) I just find the whole experience a little more enjoyable. Sure there's no bluetooth a2dp or file transfer but everything else is there (with a few pieces of software). For pure usability the Iphone is a lovely device.

ktube1 3 years ago 11
The phone is meant for making call. And check/send emails, Photo, and music. They dont need to have technical background. Its about the user experience. You can have best products which is technically advance but looks ugly and clumsy interface. HTC is good among another phone in the Market expect iPhone. iPhone doesn't have many features like rest (Nokia, Moto) etc. It has sufficient features and best user experience.

you dont need technical background for this test
guns511 3 years ago
You're wrong. A technical background is not necessary to use the devices - it's necessary to judge the devices in such a short space of time.
If this video was a proper scientific study of which device people would actually prefer, it would be ridiculed. Therefore, any conclusions drawn from this video do not show which device is better. Instead, they demonstrate that people go with what they know.
Interestingly, I occasionally see Touch Diamond adverts around London now...

I would like to see microsoft extend their battle with apple by creating a windows phone...
It would probably go down as well as a portable xbox challenging the sony PSP
If i had the money, i would hands down go for the apple iphone.
rockplannet1 3 years ago
The fact that you can suggest that after watching this video says three things:
1. Microsoft is rubbish at marketing compared to Apple.
2. HTC is rubbish at marketing compared to Apple.
3. The video is rubbish.
Apple were extending their battle with Microsoft with the iPhone, and the popularity of the iPhone shows how underexploited the market was due to lack of marketing.
g400uk 3 years ago
I totally agree.
ProgrammerInProgress 3 years ago
All the features, except the interface, plus a number such as Flash and Java, have been available for about 2 years on Windows Mobile based phones, such as those produced by HTC (and, in this case, owned by me :-). But see spot-on comments from g400uk et al
kon23uk 3 years ago 3
This has nothing to do with Microsoft's hardware. It's HTC's hardware and Microsoft's software. Microsoft has developed the superior software loyalty through the support given to third-party applications. There are two marketing problems, as I said before:
1. There's extreme lack of awareness of Windows Mobile, what it can do, and what devices it comes on.
2. HTC has only started selling self-branded products very recently and consequently has inferior marketing experience and loyalty.
g400uk 3 years ago
Microsoft is just doing what it normally does ... Copies And Rips Off Other Products ;)
mb150695 3 years ago
No. If anything, Apple copied HTC. Why do people think this about Microsoft? Microsoft is in a different leage in terms of the functions its mobile OS offers.
g400uk 3 years ago 2

11nufc11 3 years ago
People need to stop this interest in mobile phones, it was a thing of the 90s. Every mobile phone now is just a generic device which does pretty much the same thing and tbh very badly. We're now going from mobiles to HTC devices and then to other interesting mobile communication/connectivity devices which will be seen shortly during the coming years.
I use to be one of those mobile addicts that had to have the latest phone before anyone, but now I stopped caring.
ilabstudios 3 years ago
It's not about the latest phone. This is about victims of mimetic desire and blanket marketing. The fact that Apple can announce that they're putting old technology and features into their phone and get cheers from crowds, shows the true sadness of the situation. British TV needs a stronger, more independent gadget programme.
g400uk 3 years ago
Can't agree with you more.
I highly doubt that we will see any other technology based programmes, which are actually decent. I've realised though that there are more and more independent UK based channels on SKY popping up, so maybe it might happen.

the iphone has something that is just better then all opponents. unable to explain.
JHeifetz100 3 years ago
A lack of lag is nice, but the problem is that the iPhone has a worse specification than the Diamond and the OS simply as good as Windows Mobile yet. It looks, to me, like this video has been claimed by the iPhone fanboys. Meh.
g400uk 3 years ago 2
Like Steve Jobs said, "The iPhone is 5 years ahead of any other phone", and he spoke the truth.
Sphoenix108 3 years ago
Actually, you've just reminded us all that he was proved wrong before the iPhone was even released. The HTC Touch was very similar, and yet more compact - although, admittedly, it was still lacking in the UI department (however, TouchFLO showed us that HTC was tackling that issue).

PeteXT200 3 years ago
I agree with the original comment - that's the Diamond's only problem. HTC either have dreadful marketing for their devices, or none at all. I don't agree with the replies at all. The fact that HTC lets networks brand the devices as their own doesn't halp either (e.g. O2 XDAs, T-Mobile MDAs, Vodafone VPAs, etc.).
g400uk 3 years ago
I had HTC Touch Diamoind, but sold it and bought an iPhone 3G instead. It is running alot more smoother than HTC Touch Diamond. Much better interface and very good for e-mails and SMS/call ups. Very good with the iPod installed in the iPhone. The GPS is working very well to!
sjaki007 3 years ago
The only thing you've mentioned there that is useful is the fact that it is smoother, and that's potentially not useful, because the oldest Diamonds had a dodgy ROM with speed problems. You also haven't mentioned how the iPhone 3G makes up for the fact that the Diamond has a better specification, better software included, and better software available.
g400uk 3 years ago

Diamond and other WinMo based Mobiles are mainly for IT Geeks and Really Business users. IPhone is acceptable (Yes.. Only acceptable) also but for basic users who have only baisc computer knowledge. As It has many drawbacks like: You cannot exchange files through bluetooth, 3G chip added is not the latest. no copy and paste, 2 MP Camera and No video Recording!!, 3rd party apps are controlled by Apple and many more problems which we dont experiance even in basic Nokia phone
nilecreations 3 years ago 3
They call THAT a review? Most of the people they interviewed, don't know what a WM based device is. They probably use Nokias.
Let's face it, iphone is a multimedia phone. So if you like watching movies and/or listening to music choose iphone.
Diamond, can do what iphone does with movies and music, although in a smaller screen, but Diamond is also a proper business phone whereas iphone, errr not so business friendly...
It's quite simple really, Diamond is better but lost out for looks.
marceloecalves 3 years ago
That whole "report" was blatantly biased. It's a shame they didn't give the iPhone a chance to REALLY prove itself, or the HTC a chance to even get played with!!
Crap review, that's not worth anything more than the boost to iPhone users' egos (not that the pompous bastards need it).
johncmolyneux 3 years ago 8
I didn't think that was conclusive at all. Excluding the Apple fan, 50% didn't pick either phone, and most of them did admire features that the Touch Diamond had. TouchFLO 3D and the WM interface are more efficient overall, but not as optimised for common functions, so "first impressions" are going to be wrong. Also, this video didn't really talk about the specifications or history of the devices. The Touch Diamond is older, but has a much better specification.
g400uk 3 years ago
with the price difference, the iphone better has to be better!! The Diamond is for testing the market before they release the Touch Pro.
EdwinBobo 3 years ago
The TouchPro is the business version of the Touch Diamond. Business people like their keyboards for some reason, even if they're those horrible tiny unusable ones. The Touch Diamond is for normal people who don't have such strange needs.

the iphone has everything they need - push email, push contacts and calendars, more and better designed business apps, made by the people who would also design their desktop software, and full support for exchange which is the most popular business side server out there. plus the iPhone is SO much easier to use and work without needing a full IT department behind you!
creativeatheart 3 years ago
Windows Mobile (the operating system on the Touch Diamond) has had push email for ages. And Windows Live Messenger for WM provides a good contact management system too, which can involve Exchange servers, Facebook, Outlook, the WLM contact update subscription, etc. Windows Mobile obviously supports Exchange servers. More businesses use Microsoft Office, which is on the Touch Diamond, and the Touch Diamond is generally more compatible with Windows. I joined YouTube just to point all of this out.

sjaki007 3 years ago
HTC doesn't have a Facebook app. There are two facebook apps available for Windows Mobile, as far as I'm aware, and the Touch Diamond can use the mobile and iPhone versions of the Facebook website, as well as the main version. Beat that!

I would choose the i-phone 3G :-) My friend just got one not so long ago and the apps and everything are really cool. Also it is easy to sync with your computer.
sesblackwatch 3 years ago
Windows Mobile has had third party applications for years. The Touch Diamond has loads of random handy features, and can sync over bluetooth (I don't think the iPhone can). It also has features that really should be on the iPhone, such as the ability to copy and paste, and the ability to send bulk texts (didn't know that the iPhone lacked that until recently).
g400uk 3 years ago
The Copy+Paste feature is not there because they did not have time to program that into the iPhone 3G before the launch. This feature might come in an update. What HTC doesn't have is "AppStore" here you can download free and not free applications for iPhone. Today it is almost 400 games, and many is free! Also additional programs like Remote Desktop and so on. You can send bulk texts (send to many people at same time). iPhone do have bluetooth, but I don't know if you can sync over bluetooth.
sjaki007 3 years ago
But you could get an dock for iPhone (very cheap). iPhone does also make to a better Music phone with intergrated iPod (Video). The web browser is also alot better in iPhone, with the best mobile phone browser: Safari
sjaki007 3 years ago
No.. Reports show that Iphone aps run better on the HTC touch, and the Samsung Omnia. Pretty bad when the aps made for your phone, are outclassed by phones running Windows 6.1.
LockeEternal 3 years ago
I don't see how the app store is a good thing. It just means that Apple controls all of the available applications. Sure, HTC could have an app store, but why? Many developers have their own websites already, which do more justice to their software than an app store could.
