  • FELICITATIONS - ê. VIDEO +++

  • I. Want. One.

  • Awesome! Somebody take these people out for a mocha AND a pastry!

  • I demand one for me birthday

  • I really want to get one of these!!! How rare are they? How much do they cost??

  • Ghostbusters, in libary at the begining of the film.

  • Totally love that cello sound @ 4:00

  • @PimpinBassie2 best part! sounds awesome

  • A great video demonstration of this lovely vintage instrument!

Please don't forget the Novachord too - this was a 1/4 ton, 163 tube, 100% electronic 72 note polyphonic proto-synth from 1939 which was decades ahead of it's time.

Do a search for Novachord Video if you are interested in seeing a recently restored example of this super rare instrument in action.

  • que ganas de experimentar con este bichito..., donde lo compro?

  • what a refreshing discovery ive stumbled upon here. this would broaden my musical horizan. i want one.

  • Thank you so much for this!

  • They should start building these again,

  • brilliant!

  • HA STAR TREK!

  • Ghostbusters too!

  • Nine Inch Nails used this type of synthesizer on their "Ghosts I-IV" and "The Slip" LP's.

  • Maybe...but they used a French Connection Live during the LITS tour in 2008

  • 4.33 to 4:40

one of the best parts of the whole work. it is known as the loved theme. very tragic sounding no? messiaen used 3 of these instruemtns in his opera=fab

  • Can anyone remind me what is the final music ? It's very wellknown, but I just can't put a title on it. Thanks.

  • I think it was the music of a TV program... maybe Star Trek.

  • Yes, it is STAR TREK. I got the answer from someone else. Thank you.

  • Brilliant!

As used by legendary composer, Barry Gray (James Bond theme, Thunderbirds). Gray used it on the soundtrack to the Gerry Anderson film, "Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun"......

Thanks for posting, very, very interesting instrument, I'm sure it also influenced another legend, Dr. Robert Moog........

  • I'm fairly certain there is at least one much more respectable composer worth noting that used the Ondes Martenot...

  • Are you implying Olivier Messiaen is not a respectable composer ?

  • I'll be honest, I genuinely don't remember writing that, but it looks like it was in response to someone who said something that stirred me, I have no idea. If i was implying that, I will have been joking, i'm not an idiot

  • messiaen god damn it... barry gray and shit.. TURANGALILA-SYMPHONIE

  • I loved the sound at 4:04-4:09

  • very nice of the orchestra to have an own youtube channel, and interesting video about the ondes martenot!

    I am a collector of classical 78's and lp's

    some of my collection.

  • I'm in love with those beautiful sounds this instrument can produce!

  • Star Trek, Yes!

  • Search for the instrument Theremin as well, Ondes-Martenot is one of the best instruments ever, too bad there's nobody to teach me how to play it =(

  • I like this instrument! It is more human than most electronic keyboard. I like the vibrato, attack and timbre adjustments.

  • An amazing instrument, decades ahead of it's time - like an electronic Glass Armonica.

  • funny you should say that, because we have a concert featuring what is purportedly the "North America's largest glass harmonica" next week...

Will see if we can get some video of that in action :)

  • Ooh, please do! I watched all the videos there of this. Splendid stuff :o)

  • why has no other synth manufacturer used that touch sensitive vibrato that is AMAZING! That is one badass instrument.

  • Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater uses touch sensitive vibrato, im not sure what make his synth is though.

  • Jordan uses the 'Haken Continuum', see video id:Mrmp2EaVChI

  • Actually, these days most synths or midi keyboard controllers will do that. Just set an LFO to change the pitch, and set it to do that w/ after touch or w/ a high velocity (if you dont have aftertouch)

Then, press the key lightly, no vibrato, press it harder, vibrato.. press even harder, faster vibrato.

(I know my 10 year old Nova does that, as do the Nords, Korgs, the Waldorf.. like I said at the beginning.. most any modern synth)

  • Actually, I just tried it out..

Simply setting the pitch to increase w/ more pressure gives a very natural vibrato feel.

But still, that Ondes Martenot is an amazing instrument. Especially for it's time!

  • The difference is this is not a synthesizer or sampled instrument, it is a tone generator just like a theremin.

  • thats what a synthesizer is. a tone generator. this just an analog synth that sounds beautiful. :)

  • that's what a synthesizer is. a tone generator. this just a beautiful sounding analog synthesizer :)

  • i am so obsessed with the instrument.

  • I'm obsessed too. want one.

  • I love this instrument. It's fucking grandious!!

    Thx for the video ;)
