But I do know that over head cams makes a big difference vs Push rods. Technology makes a difference too. Which that old ford lacks.  Those 5.0s only make 160-180hp with maybe 200tq (which I know they are mostly torque). Not arguing, just saying that Honda Civics belong in another department. Not drag racing.

  • I got a civic hatch 1.8 DOHC vtec with only a AEM intake has full interior, no weight reduction and I eat up pusstang gt's. They ant nothing. And for a SOHC to stay that close to a 5.0 when it was at most a 1.6 that's sad.

    But gotta say a 5.0 foxbody is a sexy ride.

  • Props for the rice kill. My brother has a black silverado 5.3 on bags with an intake and exhaust, he has eaten a few SOHC vtecs. It's funny becuase the driver is always trying sooo hard and powershifting the hell outta the car, and still loses. Im more of a DSM guy, but 5.0's are badass machines no doubt.

  • stock 5.0's arnt fast mine isnt any different mines a 4.6(281 cid) which is actually smaller then the typical v8's but makes same hp/torque as the stock 5.0's... and ur right just because u have a bigger motor doesnt make u fast lol.... power/weight ratio....

  • i will say this, i have a 96 stang gt 5spd all stock except 3.73 gears and 70mm tb/cai and from a dig i walk away but from a roll they stay there knocking at my door till about 100mph... they are all into that import scene with the gsr swaps, the one im talking about has 95 hatch with the gsr swap and civic sir tranny with the typical boltons (non turbod) he said he gonna post some vids so when he does ill link em of our races

If you know how to drive your car, and you have a good tune, you're set. The reason I'm not a fan is because its a 1.6 engine w/ slight modification walking on something that people "claim" is far superior makes me sick. People think that just because it's a big engine, that makes it as quick as a jet plane. At least that's how they talk. And thats a poserish.

My best time was a 13.7 with a cai, AC Delete, LT's, and a power steering bypass, 3.55's, 18* timing and 100oct on 275x15 ET Streets, drove it to the track wich is 2+ hours away, ran and drove it back another 2 hours, it's damn reliable. And 28MPG? Who ever said I get good gas mileage? I didnt buy a Mustang to be a gas saver, I have a Focus for that.

  • @Cripton805 No, we can't go back and forth because NO MATTER how you slice it, stock v stock, Mod v mod, $ for $ a V8 car reguardless of Ford, GM, Dodge, will beat a banger, it's literally COMMON sense that something with double the displacement will react better to literally any type of mods, the only thing that saves a 4 banger is weight, they're usually in stripped out shit cans that weigh 2000lbs or lighter, it doesnt take much to pull that. Drop a V8 with the same mods into the 2000lb car.

Lets say the Teg is 2700lbs and the Mustang is at 3200lbs. Thats a 500lb weight difference. 50hp more and torque to pull that fat thing. How would that make it insaenly faster stock vs. stock??? Even the lighter LX

And you should know that TORQUE wins races. do you really think a 2800lb car with 300 flywheel trq would lose to a 2700lb car with a palrty 100+ trq? Some mods: 1.7 roller rockers, intake spacer, smog pump internals deleted, 2.5" H-Pipe all the way back, 1-5/8" headers. 1988 LX Hatch 5.0. 23 mpg around town, 27-30 highway. Gotta keep the 2.73's in there for mpg.
