This fighting system is way too sport oriented to be used in real combat. Tae Kwon Do kicks are just fast and flashy, but lack actual power and BJJ leaves your back exposed which may work in the octogan but in real life you could be facing multiple opponents.

@Kirillov Only thing that krav maga got going for itself is the mental preparation for battle. Most of the techniques you see use is nothing more than boxing, jujitsu or bjj and other forms of karate techinques that work fast and simple. No different than these maranes using a bjj for ground defense. Most martial arts came from battle that was used by countries military. But one art alone can't kill another art. Its the person.

I will say I think they have the best knife and gun defense in the world. But the hand to hand combat is just like mma. But without rules. @Kirillov Krav Maga is was also made so that people who wanted to learn self defense didnt have to spend years training to actually use it effectively. After a few training sessions of Krav Maga teaching some blocks, strikes, and counters you can already apply those to the real world. Krav Maga is also unlike most actual martial arts because it is based on survival and not a competition mind set.
@planefreak3 sambo is a martial art and sport so it may be more useful to learn and seem better. krav maga is neither and is simply just survival. sambo is for those who want belts and competitions. krav maga is for those who may encouner attacks and will try to survive in the real world without rules. they are both good.
@TYMCGOUGH: actually i use sambo to defend myself and as a sport...krav maga uses strikes from what ive seen (i havent seen much of it) which can or cannot be as effective as a submission based on how well someone performs it. what i mean is you dont expect someone to go for your legs (then submission) as an example as much as getting striked...
@planefreak3 Krav Maga (from what little I have learned so far) is a very effective fighting style. Like what TYMCGOUGH said it is a survival "tool" it is mainly for defense, but the strikes are rather devastating if hit with full force on any human. I have not learned much and therefore I wouldn't really use it in a fight, but when ever I go back to my instructor (who is the husband of one of my mother's patients) and I learn more I may start using it if anyone would fight me.

I am a Marine and we just finished Basic Training, and truth be told it is HELL!! But it DEFINATELY pays off!! I never imagined that I could learn so much hand-to-hand combat in 3 months....

Gunny Franklin's story about the bayonet charge in Iraq actually involved the British troops attacking Basra. British Royal Marines, if I recall correctly, or just British Army. Whichever, it's still the Brits.

@Kirillov Only thing that krav maga got going for itself is the mental preparation for battle. Most of the techniques you see use is nothing more than boxing, jujitsu or bjj and other forms of karate techinques that work fast and simple. No different than these maranes using a bjj for ground defense. Most martial arts came from battle that was used by countries military. But one art alone can't kill another art. Its the person.

@Kirillov Plus anyonoe can brake an arm or eye jab or kick someone in the nutts. That is nothing. Plenty of martial arts teach that. Now gun and knife defense is something else. I will say I think they have the best knife and gun defense in the world. But the hand to hand combat is just like mma. But without rules. You might as well say that krava mag is mma for the world and not mma sport.

@Kirillov Krav Maga is was also made so that people who wanted to learn self defense didnt have to spend years training to actually use it effectively. After a few training sessions of Krav Maga teaching some blocks, strikes, and counters you can already apply those to the real world. Krav Maga is also unlike most actual martial arts because it is based on survival and not a competition mind set.

@planefreak3 sambo is a martial art and sport so it may be more useful to learn and seem better. krav maga is neither and is simply just survival. sambo is for those who want belts and competitions. krav maga is for those who may encouner attacks and will try to survive in the real world without rules. they are both good.

@TYMCGOUGH: actually i use sambo to defend myself and as a sport...krav maga uses strikes from what ive seen (i havent seen much of it) which can or cannot be as effective as a submission based on how well someone performs it. what i mean is you dont expect someone to go for your legs (then submission) as an example as much as getting striked...

@planefreak3 Krav Maga (from what little I have learned so far) is a very effective fighting style. Like what TYMCGOUGH said it is a survival "tool" it is mainly for defense, but the strikes are rather devastating if hit with full force on any human. I have not learned much and therefore I wouldn't really use it in a fight, but when ever I go back to my instructor (who is the husband of one of my mother's patients) and I learn more I may start using it if anyone would fight me.

You know, the Army used to train like this. Very close. Then fuckin' Matt Larsen, a complete IDIOT and INCAPABLE JERK with a hard on for the Gracies came by, and right now we got soldiers you think a SPORT ART is self-defense. I'm proud of the Army, but every fuckin' Soldier with common sense i know wishes we trained like this instead of the RIDICULOUS Modern Army Combatives Program.
