It's a figure of speech. When the majority of your song consists of purely striking the open E string, you can guess that it won't be that inspiring of a song. I'm not familiar with Cadaver but WoP and ESPECIALLY Veil of Maya are just not my cup of tea. And The Crusade (comparing from what we've heard of In Waves so far) tops this by a LONG shot and that's saying something.
People who compare them now to "Ember to inferno"...they weren't even the same band they are now. In fact when it was recorded Matt Heafy is the only member still in the band that was in the band when they recorded it, and on top of that he was young and his vocals have developed since then, meaning they change the tuning of their guitars to suit the changes in vocals etc, new musicians = new style you get the idea..
Trivium has disappointed me. I got into them when their first album Ember to Inferno came out. Their style changed a tiny bit with Ascendancy, then changed more with the Crusade, then a tiny bit more with Shogun. And now this? They aren't the same band anymore, even Mathew's hair has changed. And the guitar solos. They were my main influence on the guitar but not anymore. Listen to Pillars of Serpents and then listen to this and you will know what I mean.
@thisryanthe If there sound stayed the same the would not be as popular as they are now plus i would just get tired of the same old generic sound. That's what seperates good bands from great bands.
@fenderstrat91 I understand completely what you are saying. But in my opinion, they changed their style a little too much too soon. It took Metallica five albums to drastically change their style like Trivium did in their fourth album Shogun. I still love Trivium, I have been listening to them for six years so it would be hard for me to just stop liking them. I just wish their style would have just stayed in the area of the first three albums. That's all I'm saying.
@thisryanthe i think its a good thing that they changed through out the years, it shows how they matured as a band. They have huge fan base now that they explored different genres. shogun kicked ass.
i didn like in waves when i first herd it...but i guess its aite (killer intro riff)..i hope most their songs dont sound like this in their new album though. Triviums a great band wid true musicians and they should stick to one particular type of metal now b4 they loose many of their old fans
@thisryanthe should someone's hair, and one song off an upcoming album be something to judge the whole album off though? especially when they've said this song is different to most of the album.
he shaved his hair off for charity dude. give the band a chance, you might be surprised
I agree. Although I think it was a musical maturing and from Ember to Shogun it was a very natural and TASTEFUL evolution. Their music evolved into something more mature, technical, and musical. This new album is looking like 10 steps backwards and GARBAGE. This doesn't sound like the Trivium that I got into years ago and have been looking up to over the years.
Please elaborate man. It's not even about the songs being shorter. The riffs are generic, the solos are less than inspiring so far. I mean in all honesty when Trivium said they were going for more of an Ascendancy vibe I expected something a little less intricately woven ala Ascendancy or at most Shattering. The music just isn't inspiring at all. It's just good for saying "OH LOOK I'M LISTENING TO BR00TALZ". That's why I believe it's a step backwards.
ok i love trivium, they will always be my favorite band no matter wut, i fuckin think this song is epic. but in this version matt sounds like justin bieber with balls lmao
