The free phone program is a good ideal for poor people,im unemployed for the first time in 15-20 years ,back on food stamps after 20 years ,no home phone and searching for a job any job!,I''ve already ordered my phone cant wait to get it ,WHY this will now give me the ability to list a number on my resume that i have access to all the time in case a call comes instead of having to wait for relatives to get home or back in town to check their voice mail to see if an employer has called for me.

How many more entitlement programs can we afford in the US? Not ALL- but the majority of these phones are going to people who DON'T want to work, refuse to be educated, and don't want to change. It is 15.5% of the revenue that cel phone companies make that is passed on to consumers. Think about how many of these entitlement programs are draining the hard working american pockets that would be willing to help in other ways -like providing jobs and educational services.

Last time I checked, having a cell phone was not a necessity. Also, most cellphones are capable of dialing "911" regardless of the phone actually being "activated". I apply for dozens of jobs daily with no luck. I have to get food stamps . I am waiting on the free phone now.You're lucky you can work and aren't able to get assistance. Although many may feel this is an entitlement, this may save the government money when it comes to coordinating welfare or other government services. It's a basic phone and a basic plan - no frills. Most of us spend loads more on phones much more complex and fancy ... let off. Or consider women in domestic abuse situations .... something like this phone could really help out.

really, what good is it for the companies to give away free cellphones and minutes on a nation-wide basis?The companies most definitely arent making all that money back. This is a government promoted experiment, most likely so they know where everybody is at a given time, and knows what they are doing and saying(check out the spy phone software).The company I work for was hired by tracfone to collect data on the lifeline program so I know a bit about what Im talking about the restis speculation

I am a disabled person. I just got one of these today. Speaking on a regular or cellphone is mostly inaccessible to me. With this I will be able to send text messages to the registered nurse, my doctor, and agencies that help me.

I have no intention of abusing this. 68 minutes = 204 text messages a month, way more than I'll ever need.

Excuse me sir, if our safelink customer would like to have more minutes, they have the option to call the safelink enrollment department to upgrade their 60 minutes to 125 or 250 minutes and it would cost NOTHING.
