Cena is a nautral heel. He is just really irritating. Had he been wrestling in the 80's he would have been a well regarded face today. But in the 21 st century, CM Punk is more appelaing to fans becuase he is not a straight up goody two shoes charachter. They died in the Attitude era When people chose Austin over Bret Hart. Having John Cena as your top good guy is a backwards step. Kids like Cena because he is a faultlessy good and brave super hero char. Male adults want a good guy who is darker

The reason most guys hate Cena is because, like the Rock & Punk say, "He is phony." Period. He smiles and says he loves it when the fans express themselves even if they boo him, but you can see it in his face that behind his fake smile, he HATES it!
