  • I am studyng this! Nice song

  • Come on man, it's suppose to not be played fast !

    At least not that fast.

  • Your piano seems to court a lot of controversy!! Not to worry, we can still see how good you are. Keep up the good works.

  • Well done - I love this piece. Minor suggestion: you could slow it down just a bit, bring out the musicality of the piece even more than you do.

  • haha you can always pick up a cheap one ;-)

  • Efficiency, Modesty, troubadour and New Era are all James scott rags that all lovers of ragtimed should investigate. This is a good one too but these four are, I think, absolute masterpieces. What a delight his music is!

  • It's just like you're playing. Ha ha! Incredibly amazing! :)

  • oh, very good, I will try to download the sheets from internet

  • Thanks :-) ye got be one my favourite ragtime hits haha trickiest one ive tried so far though, although the stoptime rag is also a pain! thanks again!

  • thanks for your feedback lol I understand what you mean about the start. Thing is a had so many takes before i got it right it was bound to sound a little unenthusiastic lol I'll try and get it first take next time and hopefully the magic will shine through haha

  • The more often you record something, the harder it gets to focus...... I know!

Great video-- great playing-- I'm blown away.

  • congratulations!!a great piece!!you play it very good!!I agree with the last comment, there are a lot of chromatism in the left hand and it would be great if that notes sounded a bit more ^^ keep working on it!!;)

  • Joplin said to never play rags fast and this is exactly why... You've lost all the play with rhythm and the harmony is blurred. It's not a race. We are not here to be impressed by how fast your hands can move, but to hear a well played rag, to hear the wonderful harmony and play with rhythm that ragtime is all about!

You have the notes down sure, now just don't rush!

  • Thanks for your comment, I agree ragtime should be played slowly as you will see in my "weeping willow" where I tried to maintain a slow tempo throughout but in cases such as this piece I feel there is room for a faster tempo. Also the opinion of James Scott (the composer of this piece) may have differed from Joplin's anyway...

  • @samuso86 I belive he didn´t play fast. This is not fast at all!

  • @Matstrix I like the harmony, and it is not fast at all

  • Hello Sam! It is Ben Howie here! Good job as always! Still into those rags and whatnot :P Sounds fantastic dude. Hope you are doing well!

    Ben

  • cheers dude! alls good, haha I do the odd rag here and there for a laff, I have to do classical at uni so its a bit of a release lol along with the odd blues jam (including me and myself lol)tell me about brighton! cheers dude

  • you are talented! after having put in the time to learn the maple leaf rag, i realize how long it takes to perfect a ragtime piece and you did it flawlessly . . . i would recommend this video to anyone.

  • Thankyou very much! haha, ye this rag I found somewhat more difficult than any other I've tried to learn as unlike the weeping willow (also on my page)where you have the ability even as a performer to sit back and enjoy, it demands 100% concentration through out lol good luck with future ragtime endeavours!

  • thanks! you have inspired me to start working on this piece because i happened to have the sheet music for it in a book of mine...it really is challenging, especially the jumps between octaves in the melody line
