I hate it when people say "cloning is playing god", because whenever two people have offspring, I say they are playing god. People never say things like "having children is unethical because it is playing god". Cloning is just another way to make a human.
did you gain back most of the weight you lost already? dude, be more serious. this is a lot more important than the pseudo-intellectual crap you think about every minute of the day.
Fear of human cloning I think is warranted, especially since the majority of the scientific community condemns it.
There has to be good reasoning behind that.
If you want to improve yourself through technology or other means, great. But when you choose the attributes of another conscious being, and make them as a replacement, you have to consider the clone's psychological state.
Whenever a man looks at a women and thinks, "she's hot" or "definitely wouldn't tap that ass", they are expressing preferences towards the attributes of their potential offspring (on a certain level). The point is, cloning is neither morally superior or inferior to old fashion procreation. Rather then saying "fear of human cloning is warranted", I think it would be more accurate to say "fear of human procreation is warranted". I just see no reason to draw a distinction between the two.
I don't get these fears either. While explaining to a friend how 'they controlled a robot with rats braincells! Another step towards cyborgs and the golden age of man!', she just shivers and says she would never augment herself with anything.
The discussion ended up in a funny field: Is sex between two biological humans better than two uploaded minds? Genitals rubbing together, or a mindmelt where you can recreate for the other person every good feeling she/he has had ever, simultaneously.
Biology has, like many other fields now, become an Information Technology. You can already see Moore's Law applying to it. Example: personal DNA sequencing. Look up the time and cost of the first sequencing ever, and one you can do now. Exponential growth.
I think that life, especially human life, is very frail (on a cosmic scale). The only real chance for us to survive for longer than a couple of centuries/millennia, we need to spread out. Biotech can help us tremendously to reduce risks.
where i live people change their looks all the time..eye colors, hair colors, sometimes they make themselves look like robots. some change colors. umm some of dem fly.. some have super strength.. u name it. one of them even looks like a big blue tick..
So if someone would stand up and propose some "selective breeding" of humans, what will happen?
Also I think we still want to see us as above the natural world and fine tuning our genetic code would be the absolute acceptance that we humans are defined by our genes.

There is no god in this world. Scientists are the closest things to god.

I actually think athletes are closest to god. I personally worship Shaq.
DeraJa 2 years ago
Umm, why? Because they're good at a game that serves no purpose other than entertaining Americans?
Professional athletes way too are overpaid as well.

It's because of sci-fi. You can't make a story about a future where everything went right (except Star Trek.)
