Nice video/drums btw. Anyhow, I notice people bitching about drum recording, and saying metal engineers are no good. That's bullshit. Mercyful Fate Dead Again album was recorded with 2 AT4050s to the left and right of the kit. Of course there's mics catching snare/kick/toms. Sometimes all cymbals/ride/hats are mic'ed. OHs aren't EQed, maybe HPfiltered. Most metal uses replacement because it keeps the drums constant and extreme. The takes still must be perfectly on time though.
I like you drumming, very precise, and bass drum sound awesome! Also you chose some original repertoire with King Diamond. You inspire me, as a beginner drummer.
@saberbazer Haha your an idiot. The reason for mic'ing every drum and symbol is to be able to control the volume of each individual piece of the drum set so you can make it sound perfect. If there were only 2 mics then some of the pieces of the drum set would overpower other pieces of the drum set. But i guess if you like sloppy sounding music you can do it your way.
@saberbazer There's a reason they're called sound 'engineers.' Try riding the level up on just your floor tom, or change the EQ on your kick drum, when all you got are 2 overheads. It won't work. I prefer my way of recording, you do it your way. Case closed.
@saberbazer Every drum was individually mic'd, plus 2 overheads to capture the cymbals and to get that overall sense of space you mentioned . This is the way it was done in every studio I've recorded in.
Fucking excellant job dude!!! I love the ride cymbal work in those verses, I always have. I never guessed old Mikkey Dee would of joined Motorhead though!!!
wow...is all I can say. You sir have just given me(and all k. diamond fans) a clinic on the drums for Welcome Home. I've been listening to that song on and off for the last 18 years and you just nailed it, period. Mickey Dee is a badass drummer and King's songs are very elaborate. Kudos.
At the very beginning i like to look at the hand as paradiddle diddles, and eigth note triplets for the kicks, little bit of a differant feel, if your looking to try something new.
