....and in regards to Guitar Hero....Guitar Hero has a license for the music it uses FOR THE GAME only. This does give the player of the game the right to post it on YouTube. Perhaps that's in the fine print that came with the game (?).

Some artists welcome the publicity. Many artists use YouTube to advertise themselves. If they are promoting themselves using their own stuff, GREAT! If they are promoting themselves using material that does not belong to them, that is copyright infringement.
When you upload your video, it asks you if you own the material that you are posting. If you're name does not appear on the copyright to the song and you do not have a synch license, you do not have the right to post it. YouTube takes your word for it and allows you to post whatever you want. They bank on no one checking so that they can sell the ad space. YouTube makes MILLIONS of dollars off of the videos you upload.
We, the consumers, are their bread and butter. If everyone banded together and stopped buying stuff with their name on it, they would be forced to change policies or go under. I think its time for the public to take control and show them who REALLY runs their business. And thats us. Because without us they are nothing.
