@kofiata I'm studying Nursing and you're right. The alcohol (when you desinfect your finger) can give you a wrong result, so we never take the 'first blood' and always the 'second blood'  ;-)

@PrincessMeggy025 you would not do it right over the pads of the finger, yes there are heaps of nerve endings there. I just just to the side of that area and I don't get pain.

do it on the side of the finger not the palm because the palm of the finger is very sensitive and it will sting for sometime. Also you should clean the area with a wipe before beginning as unclean skin could contain items that would distort the readings - like a bit of cake!

can you prick any one of your finger because sometimes ill test my pointer finger which i always do and sometimes i have to do it twice because the prick did not pull all of blood and ill have do do it twice i was just wondering can i prick any finger?

@mustang1582 You can prick any finger. With some machines you can even prick the side of your leg or arm if your fingers are getting worn out.

@DrGFS I tried to test my blood whit my arm and my finger, And the result was about 5 in diference, It was mutch higher on the arm so i almost gave insulin for something i didnt need to give for, So its a litlle scary

@KentSorvik it's not all machines that you can use non finger blood. You need to check with the manufacturer. I do know that there are some machines however that let you use arm blood.

I am currently completing my cert II in aged care and they have shown us NOT to use the prick on any of the fingers where the nerve endings are! we were taught to do it on the side of the thumb.

The pricking is like getting a quick pinch. It hurts less than a bee sting. If u take the lancet and don't put it in the pricked. U can do it on ur ear lobe, the bottom. U don't even feel it

@redcrown666 it feels like a stick from a briar or something similar. It depends on which part of the finger you stick also. Go for the sides of the finger NOT on the tip as thats where the most nerve endings are located. Another thing that keeps the pain down....Let the alcohol completely dry BEFORE you prick your finger! We all know how alcohol feels in an open wound.

type 1 diabetes means you're insulin dependent. basically its incurable.

type 2 can be cured with correct dieting and you may have to take shots or take pills.

if anything you want to be diagnosed with type 2 more so than type 1

Number 2 is less serious.. I have type 2 diabetes... i am 16 years old and have had it since i was 15. My mom and dad both have it so it guaranteed me to get it. If you have type 2 the worst you will ever take is pills... But type one you have to stab yourself with a huge serenge *big needle you know* it would suck

Umm you should tell your mum you need to see a doctor.

Or go to a store and buy a meter. Most come free with a couple of strips and lancets.

If you live in England or Australia and your blougar level is below 3 or above about 8/9 You may have diabetes.

If you live in America and it's below 80, or above 140 ish. See a doctor, you may have diabetes.
