Monica was a "surprise". however, they both did an incredible job. i hate when artists are pitted against each other. both of their voices lent the brilliance that made this #1 on the billboards for 13 wks when they were both teenagers. and y did the camera person cut off the part of the video where they hugged after the performance?
Monica's tone is just extraordinary. They both are. Brandy is so distinctive and husky and light, whereas Monica's is richer and stronger, particularly in her lower register.

Anyways, disappointing for Mo and her fans, she was doing FAR too much. Brandy kept it classy and let her run with it. But I'm sure you didn't know that was a possibility. So please just keep that in mind.

If you like Aaliyah music, you might've enjoyed it. She's in a new place in her life now, and coming with a sassy attitude on the 5th album post car accident may not have been the best move. Human is probably her best emotionally, and vocally, and I don't think you see it. Again, you don't know about LABEL politics.

I must admit it seems like Monica's fanbase is more faithful to her than Brandy's fanbase is. I don't like to talk numbers but, Brandy's last certified album was Afrodisiac in 04. Human flopped. Monica's Still Standing 500,000+ copies sold. Also, Monica has more #1 singles without Brandy than vice versa. When it comes to ride or die, seems like Monica fans got her back. They both have different styles of singing. It just depends on which kind of style you prefer. I like Mo. I tend to like soulful and powerful singers. I think Brandy has more vocal training which gives her an edge. Both are great singers though.

I've been watching some of her older vids and a common theme I've been coming across is that when she tries to do something extra she always sings off key or on top of the note. It's kind of similar to when someone plays the drums and kats are like it's always best to stay in the pocket. She has to learn to control her voice and runs. Maybe she's matured vocally, but it's something that I noticed her do. I guess she was making up for when Brandy killed her singing this song at the awards show.
Ok, I'm gonna first say that Monica has a great voice. She started off hott, but then on the second verse and almost to the end she actually changed keys and sang on top of the note. I was like huh? Brandy wasn't even trying to make it a competition, but I guess with Mo being in the A she wanted to represent...kinda failed imo.
Brandy does have a smooth voice raspy voice, but that is about it. And...it's not natural she will admit that before Full Moon, they worked on her voice to get it like that. Monica sings completely better? I disagree. That clearly doesn't show here. She can sing, but that doesn't explain why she went out of her way attempting to outsing, outshine, and outdo Brandy anyway possible vocally. Maybe because this was a performance in her hometown ATL? Anyways, disappointing for Mo and her fans, she was doing FAR too much. Brandy kept it classy and let her run with it. Monica can sing no doubt, but I definitely think Brandy has much better tone and CONTROL.

Who knows what kind of strict contract she was under when she left Atlatic records for Epic. Darkchild probably may have trapped her into only releasing songs that HE produced, and he may have also scrapped some of the other songs she recorded for Human. But I'm sure you didn't know that was a possibility. So please just keep that in mind.

If you like Aaliyah music, you might've enjoyed it. She's in a new place in her life now, and coming with a sassy attitude on the 5th album post car accident may not have been the best move. Human is probably her best emotionally, and vocally, and I don't think you see it. Again, you don't know about LABEL politics.

I must admit it seems like Monica's fanbase is more faithful to her than Brandy's fanbase is. I don't like to talk numbers but, Brandy's last certified album was Afrodisiac in 04. Human flopped. Monica's Still Standing 500,000+ copies sold. Also, Monica has more #1 singles without Brandy than vice versa. When it comes to ride or die, seems like Monica fans got her back. Brandy fans seem wishy washy. Not as faithful. A shame really, and this is coming from a Brandy fan.

Finally Monica's reality show helped her sales, it did the same for keyshia's second album when she had her reality show. Its called "Publicity" now that Brandy has a reality shwo i bet you she over sells monica. BTW Monica and Brandy both have 6albums yet Brandy sold 24mill an monica sold 18mill.

She is not supposed to always sing the song the same way each time she performs it. I think that they both were a little excited to perfrom with each other again. And 4 those ewho say that MOnica was trying 2 out shine Brandy, I don't think so . If u know Mo then u know that thats the way she sings all the time solo, or otherwise. And Keyshia Cole made a fool of ownself on the BET awards, Monica is not even in the same league as Key, and they both know that. I like Key but Mo takes it by a landslide.

Many Reasons why I feel Brandy is above Monica overall.
That doesnt discredit Moncia because we all know she is a Great singer
but Brandy has all the right seasonings for a Great singer that people will
be and are inspired by, Not just someone who can sing which is Monica..
Brandy is a Musician.. Monica is Just a vocalist.
Monica Does has a slighty wider Range but Brandy can sing in way more notes then Monica, in way more tones as well... etc

They both have different styles of singing. It just depends on which kind of style you prefer. I like Mo. I tend to like soulful and powerful singers. I think Brandy has more vocal training which gives her an edge. Both are great singers though.
You said Brandy is a musician...didn't know she played an instrument.

I know vocal is an instrument. If you read the comment above mine you say brandy is a musician monica is a vocalist. A musician is thought of in terms of "playing" an instrument. It is also someone who writes music. I was simply correcting you. You were trying to discredit Monica by saying she's simply a "vocalist."

Monica is a Vocalist, She can sing, she aint skilled enough to be called a true Musician, she doesnt have the Ear Brandy has which makes Brandy a better Musician then she is Not necessarily a better vocalist but surely a Musician
You didnt correct me and on this subject I dont think you can. No one is discrediting monica. She is just NOT as Musically educated as Brandy, She has never been and I dont think she ever will be, but vocally yea she can hold a note longer then brandy that's about all.

I've been watching some of her older vids and a common theme I've been coming across is that when she tries to do something extra she always sings off key or on top of the note. It's kind of similar to when someone plays the drums and kats are like it's always best to stay in the pocket. She has to learn to control her voice and runs. Maybe she's matured vocally, but it's something that I noticed her do. I guess she was making up for when Brandy killed her singing this song at the awards show.

Ok, I'm gonna first say that Monica has a great voice. She started off hott, but then on the second verse and almost to the end she actually changed keys and sang on top of the note. I was like huh? Brandy wasn't even trying to make it a competition, but I guess with Mo being in the A she wanted to represent...kinda failed imo.

Brandy does have a smooth voice raspy voice, but that is about it. And...it's not natural she will admit that before Full Moon, they worked on her voice to get it like that. Even in this clip, you can see her forcing it. Mo is stronger and natural. She wasn't trying to hard...she was SANGIN'. That's how she do!! And there is nothing wrong with the venue...they are performing for their fans, nothing is ever wrong with that, no matter where you are!! Both ladies...keep it up!

I was reading some of the comments towards Brandy and people saying that Monica is a better singer......Now I am a fan of both but let me say this Monica is good but she doesn't sing Better than Brandy. Brandy has a raspy voice that about it.......her tone is always on point and on this one she kept it simple I......Stop with the wrong ass comments!

I love both Brandy AND Monica! Why do we have to compare them two? They're like sisters kind of. The two females RnB divas of the late 90s. They're BOTH beautiful black talented women. Seriously people, WE CAN appreciate, like, and support them both. Just like I do.
Anyway, about the video, yeah Monica is a much better singer, but in this video I don't like how she was trying to show off her voice towards the end. I didn't sound good at all. Other than that they were both great.

Monica was off key when she tried to break it down, but Monica is a better singer than Brandy. Brandy was excellent at 14 when she did her first record, but her voice changed when she grew up. Her tone is bad. Monica has good tone usually. Not on this video, because she sounds worn out, but her voice is usually ricj and soulful. Brandy sounds like her
