you're talking about a drag car, specifically built to take full advantage of a prepped track, with slicks. a 1/4 mile track, a REAL track anyway, has two different surfaces.... the first half is asphalt, so that the tire has lots more surface area to bit into, the back half is concrete, where downforce takes over for traction and where speed significantly increases because of lower rolling resistance
@whyme101 on a public road.... the surface is pure asphalt. primarily for its flexibility and durability, also for its capacity to drain water(for the more gravel oriented asphalt surfaces to increase wet/cold weather safety)
it also does NOT have any sort of VHT layed down, nor does it have layers of rubber that contributes to a cars traction that a professional track would have.
@whyme101 and then theres the weight difference.....
a 1000+hp Supra has much more traction purely from its 3400lb weight and using drag radials, than a civic that weights around 2800lbs or less making 400hp with the same type of tire. ESPECIALLY when weight transfer is also in the mix.
when you go forward, you feel the force push you rearwards. the weight will transfer naturally to the rear. the only way a FWD will catch traction is if the rear suspension is as stiff as possible.

@MassiveLemon Power to weight is a much bigger factor from a dig than it is at highway speeds. Look at motorcycles for an example.

It's not that rare. I've seen 500HP Mustangs beat 900HP Supras in the quarter because they only made their 900HP in the top 500 RPM of the power band.

@MassiveLemon Its not so much the powerband its moreso traction. Many do them right now and there are technologies which allow Supras to do good times in the 1/4. And how exactly would know you if the 900hp Supra racing that 500hp mustang lost because he made 900hp in the top 500rpm? Did you ask the guy or did you go off of what the Mustang guy told you?
