amazingeddie.... am with you on that point... nobody can play felas songs like he did, but this guys are doing a good thing ........keep the music alive pple....
Seems to me that if Fela Kuti had a legacy worth passing on, it had more to do with inspiring people to think for themselves and be critical and creative, than with slavishly following every last detail of his arrangements. Sure, he was a taskmaster but he had his own vision and wanted his musicians to bring it forth. Now that he's dead, we have the records if we want to be zombies (!) and copy him - or we can pick up the ball he was forced to let drop and we can run with it.
This "Guy" is Dele Sosimi friends! the keyboard master of Fela during 7 years during the EGYPT 80 band, believe me after 2 h of concert it's so hot that you need to breath! get his last album and you'll be surprised, this full artist is also the Femi Kuti musical director, you really need to get info guys !
Fela wouldn't be happy? strange dele Sosimi and him where friends for sure since the Childhood! you don't know what yoyu're talking about guys... go to sleep yes!
@Wavecurve I sense that that is a rhetorical question, and that no answer I would give you would have any other effect than to make you angry, so I'm not going to rise to the bait.
I llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll love yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy your music from:Katherine
having seen Fela originally in Nigeria in 1976 at The Shrine, I can agree that this isn't a great performance of "Zombie"...however, Dele Sosimi played with Fela and is a very good musician...I have seen him perform Afrobeat at a high level...and it is crazy to suggest that no one should try to play Fela's music...
Africans can understand Afro-Amero beat ,but tis ..for Afro-American to understand our beat/rhythm is a bit difficult can take about 400 years to undo....man breath
Ok, how about doing something about it yourself, track down a tribute act and encourage them to play in your town - worth a go at least. And i was only kidding in my comment, aint my fault Americans are so highly strung, anyway, if you want it go get it.
y'all should stop complaining... It is impossible to play Fela's music at the same level as he did... he was a spiritual presence... You can't get that sound just by being a good musician... I think people should be encouraged to make an effort to let people experience some of Fela's concept live... not in hope of being as good, but inspiring people to go out and get the original albums. Also, Fela's message was about rebellion in the face of authority, not copying people like ZOMBIES....
yeah, it's too fast, they can't get the whole lick out. I know 'cause we closed every night for two years with this anthem. I play the tenor, and it's simple but very hard to articulate. A special piece of music that takes people to another place. RIP Fela
yeah. it's pretty bad. they're rushing it and not even hitting the riff correctly....irregardless of who's playing it, mate, bad is bad...no getting around it.

The testimony to the genius of Fela is that nobody has been able to reproduce his music accurately, not even his children.
Wavecurve 2 years ago 2
@Wavecurve As if the point of music was to exactly reproduce somebody else's performance...
lexo30 1 year ago
@lexo30 If you must reproduce some body's music, should you not, at least, approach the quality of the original?
