  • In 1972, I was 7 years old. I vividly remember going across the street to my best friends house. His sister played this song over and over on her plastic record player. It wasn't 'til the 5th time it was played, that something musically clicked in my head. I remember standing in the hallway and simply going over the melodic rhythm guitar chords and killer vocals...

35 FREAK' YEARS I've chased this song, who performed it, what the name was!!! I owe my love for music to this band, this song!!

  • wow i wish i could go back to when i was 13 and this was on the radio oh if i only knew then what i know now!

  • Gonna do it tonight cause of D WOOT WOOT

  • The chord progression in this song is sooo friggin good.....

  • Absolutely beautiful. It touches a fleeting time in my life. Thanks.

  • the music of tody is crap ...

  • You just CANNOT compare this to the music of today.

  • this is such an underrated song..its great

  • I love how this song has the perfect amount of lovey dovey and the perfect amount of rock which makes it the perfect anthem for my teen years!! <3

  • childhood

  • LICKS LICKS LICKS!

  • what a song!! it fits my life right now to a tee. very sad I am. wish i could sing this to someone special.

  • To be clear, this is in the top five all-time a power pop classics. It simply never gets tiring, with an unforgettable guitar riff, brilliant chorus and catchy bridge. Fabulous, Eric Carmen & CO...

  • This always seemed like more of a early to mid 60's song, doesn't matter though, it's still a classic 70's tune. The first record I owned.

  • Awesome song..LOVE IT !!!!

  • I love this song!

Although now whenever I hear it, I think of loft beds, for I have been listening to it the most when I was looking for a new bed online..I guess it's an association thing.

  • Great song

  • Love this song! good memories:0)

  • The harmonies in the chorus reminds me of the Beach Boys.

  • @FuckingStanz lol same can be said about a lot of music around this time, true in any case.

  • Thanks for the great, clean version of this. I'm 64 and still think this is one of the sexiest records ever made.

  • @emmaaum22 I am just about half your age, and a lot of times, I listen to music like this and wonder what it would have been to grow up with this as the soundtrack of my youth and adolescence. Must've been some fantastic times, sometimes I feel like today's manufactured generation is missing out on so much...

  • @kertong : Of course, every genertion has thought theirs was the best up to now. I'm not sure about how rosy its been for us boomers. We surely started out with every advantage in a peaceful, prosperous time. When some nameless "they" killed JFK, the pin was stuck in the balloon. Within a few years, many of us were so disillusioned we couldn't participate in anything but our self-created dream world. The creativity of that period was born of a lot of pain. smudge801 at yahoo.

  • sounds so like the beatles

  • great song. one of my fav oldies

  • Sounds like Eric took a page from Pete Townsend. He also took a few pages from Rachmaninoff.

  • @StevenCarinci Carmen's solo "All by Myself" borrowed from Rachmaninoff.

  • Great song!! It sure brings back great memories and better times.

  • 19 years old, 1972, cruisin in my 70 Dodge Challenger with a 4 on the floor and this playing out the rear speakers, cool!

  • I thought this was ELO...

  • @spooky29

Makes me think of ELO as well.

  • I can remember where I was when I first heard this song in the 70's...9 years old on a hot summer day, I will always love this song!

  • My dad knows the drummer.

  • @Legend28x NO WAY!

  • Being 10 years old with an AM radio....priceless.

  • James Gang, Michael Stanley, The Rasberries, Molkie Cole, CLEVELAND ROCKS!

  • CLASSIC!!!

  • Always wondered if the line was "all alone... screwing me." I guess it was!

Hey, that was a big deal back then!

  • They should put this music to all the That 70's Show tribute videos. Tunes fit the setting. Nostalgic.

  • Reminds me of the Utopia

  • Reminds me of the Utopia

  • NEVER go ALL THE WAY-

1 To tijuana on one tank of gas

2 With a tranvestite who is psychotic and schizophrenic

3 To McDonalds for a McAnus burger

4 To china for chinese food

  • just a bunch of kids...I had all 3 of there albums

  • In 1973 i went 'all the way".....mistake! Her dad was a puerto rican who hated white boys with a vengence...I had to leave town

  • @teehonky How funny is that? Love it!!

  • LOVE THIS!!! Hot Summer nights on the beach...hot girls...great drinks...great smokes...great big moon...the taste of salt as you kiss her sweet lips and...ahhhhhhh!

  • Eric Carmen is a great lyracist! recognizeable but NOT the same old same old!

  • Hey, I know my 70s... can spot most hits in just a few notes. Yet somehow this song did not make it into the panthenon of "classic rock" playlists. Heard this for the first time several months ago on an oldies station. Kudos to the linker thet brought me here from Hoocoodanode

  • @swagled Yeah, it's a mystery. I'd love to hear more of this instead of fifteen Fleetwood Mac songs an hour. Pete Townshend would have given a tooth to have come up with this riff. Man...

  • @prettymom777 I was 13 when this came out and I remember my mom asking me "do you have that record" when she heard about it from one of my older friends. She probably would've broken it if I did.

  • One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, with a great rock beat. It makes you feel alive, thinking about how wonderful it is to be in love and looking into the eyes of the one who has your heart.

  • The crown on Eric's career.......who would've known at the time..........Summer of 1973........winding-out my 1971 302 ci Ford, passing all that came my way, and then some........and yes she went all the way.............and then some.

  • So this song is about a couple all hot'n'heavy and she suddenly asks him to stick it in. Birth control out the window.

  • i used to hear this on the radio in the 4th grade. im 17 now XD

  • @prmama93 I used to hear this song on the radio in 11th grade. I'm 51 now : (

  • compare this to today's RAP ....

  • @Paulvon128 Compare this to today's cRAP.

  • @inhocsignovinces88 Well, there was plenty of crap in the old days, too. We just don't have to listen to it anymore. The cream will rise from the present someday, too.

  • @TheSanityInspector Yeah, there was alot of horrid crap back then too.

  • @Paulvon128

    Rock > (C)rap =P

  • What an era...

  • Wayne, PA at the very end of an era. Thanks for evoking the memories!!!!!

  • This is one of those songs that keeps me singing and awake at night. I was 14 when it came out and didn't dare let my two parents older than most of those of my contemporaries hear it! CKOC in Toronto, Cham in Hamilton, and I didn't really clue into thelyrics for a couple of years. Ow I have it on mp3 and couldn't do without that one!

  • ah.....please go all the way...down to the store an get me a beer....

  • This song used to come on the radio as I was going to my grandma's for some reason

  • This song is amazing.

  • Probably the greatest Guitar intro ever. EVER!

  • Listening to this is like your first kiss and your first girlfriend down the shore, that Carmen sure can sing and the guitar riffs are totally awesome/long live Kimmy B!!!!

  • What can you say?One of the greatest rock songs of its time.A clever vocal arrangement, that is driven by a great guitar rip.

  • awesome-rs

  • Wowm so this is Eric Carmen pre solo dayz?// never knew that!!

  • This was one of those "going back to school" songs I remember as a 10 yr old kid. This song since played in my memory every time September came around. Funny!!!

  • Lol! You hit the nail on the head with your comment!

My bus driver had her transistor radio on her dashboard (as school buses were not equipped with them) and this was one of the singles that played on morning AM radio...

Ah, to be a schoolkid again...

  • @joni2691 I had the 45 and bought it in the summer. I doesn't remind me of going back to school, but of those do nothing days in the summer playing albums and 45s with friends. It is great how these old songs bring back special memories

    Bernie - 1958

  • one of the most perfectly crafted and performed pop songs of all times -- almost up there w/ Bus Stop and Let's Live For Today. Nahhh, but close!

  • A very viral song that if you heard it more then 3 times on AM radio (the usual amount it was played per a 4 hour stretch), you would instantly recognize. Thanks for posting, I loved this song since the 70's but had no idea who did it till now.

  • gosh i was so naive i didnt even know what they were singing about but loved the song still do.

  • Great song. But it sounds like 8track quality!!

  • Yeah i was thinking that also! lol, thanks for pointing that out, though it was my cpu setup.

  • I love this song.

  • It described that teen angst perfectly. Oh, she said come on.

  • A song like that reminds me of how jacked up on our own hormones us boomers were back in the day...:-), great to be young ain't it? :-)

  • Pure pop glory, as good as it ever gets.

  • LETS

  • Nothing but a Rock 'n' Roll lullabye. Classic. Thanks for posting.

  • Back when eric carmen still had a pair...great stuff

  • I've always loved this song! It brings back great memories...thanks for posting it!!!

  • ahhhh! I love this song! Thanks soooo much for posting it!!!

  • thanx again t919. this song is proof that music was so much better back then. had this on a K-TEL comp.which faded out too early to accomodate 10 songs per side. they must have thought the kids wouldn't notice but i was hip to their games. they are forgiven.

  • shlabotnikj, the most hit singles I ever saw crammed onto one side of a K-Tel album I ever owned was 13!

    It was from K-Mart!
