  • the Fiat 500 didnt have an ancestor but its got a little brother the Fiat 500 FATASS!

    seriously its gigantic..

  • What about the Beetle? It's better than a 500 (which is also very good) and in a different league to a lowly Mini

  • @autocar what is the background music near beginning & ends of this video? Thanks

  • 16 horse power :O

My lawn mower has like 18+ HP

  • @andruha11234 Wow... i never thought of it... but my mower has 21.

  • Fix It Again, Tony (FIAT)

  • @FLSHBK1 Fix it again tomorrow

  • if you buy a classic fiat expecting performance, you are an idiot, old 500 ftw :D

  • the zastava version of this car can go up to 140 XD

  • > got a fiat 500 <

    \o/ yay

  • its still a prototype give them time in the us and CANADA they will make it ten times better in next year of 2012 and the years to come its time that we the people get good cars like the FIAT 500 and extreme very good on gas anyway we are still october 2011 so to me its not a 2012 fiat 500 its a 2011 i hate the comersholl with j lo its stupid if it up to me i would do a drag race FIAT 5OO VS MINI AND VOLTSWAGEN BEETLE the FIAT WOULD WIN and sell that as a comersholl cute ITALIAN /AMERICAN CAR

  • I owned two of the old ones. A 61 and a 69. They never broke down, the most reliable cars I have ever owned.

  • my father rented one of the new 500's.

it was great fun!! I instantly fell in love with it.

  • what's the intro song?

  • We used to have a red Fiat 500 (the old one) just like the one in the video. My current car is a Peugeot 205 and was parked next to it and the 205 was absolutly massive compared to it. I pulled up in work and someone there drives a new 500 and I parked my car next to it. The new 500 was massive compared to my 205. It's gotta be twice the size compared to the old 500. It's not really a small car anymore. It's still got bags of character though.

  • i love fiat 500, the new one and the old one

  • Best small car? Fit It Again Tony?

  • awww its like grandpa and grandson

  • although fiat is famous for building cars that break down quite a lot you cant say that about the 500. it actually has to be consider to be one of the toughest engines because it was so weak that it had to be revved if you want it to go especially with 4 people inside, and although all of them suffered those revs all the time theyre still running now, and that to me proves that italians can do reliable cars and still give you that feeling, that passion they have, that no other country can give

  • @ZeGeRiVeNz I think Fiat's may break down fairly often compared to other cars but at least they're simplier to repair. A lot of the problems with new cars is electronics. That's 90% of Alfa Romeo's problems. And that's not really Alfa's fault. The parts that break on them are the parts that have been supplied by other companies.

  • @lukerobin01 Then maybe they should switch to Japanese companies for electronics.

  • @Skoda130 I know Alfa switched to Bosch electronics a few years back. If I'm not mistaken the person who took control of quality used to control BMW's and he stopped production of the 159 until the electronic and build quality issues were sorted out. If Alfa moved to Bosch then Fiat most probably did the same.

  • @lukerobin01 Such as LUCAS, the Prince of Darkness?

  • They would say vw beetle! But I actually prefer this over the beetle.

  • How about "meet the clone" video? Search for ZAZ-965, for example: watch?v=FOv4MqoVj18

  • top speed was 110 km/h so 60mph was about 85 a 90 % of it's top speed lol so it would take more than 20 seconds I guess 0 to 60

  • @215alessio

Depends on how much weight you put in it (I am 20% of the car's weight) and whether you're going straight. On a straight, with a light driver, it takes way above half a minute to reach 60. I remember driving it with my friend for fun (together we added approx. 35% to the weight of the car) and we never really reached 60, it shoke more than a washing machine on full revs..

  • @MultiParasite I was close 20 to 30 seconds depending also the HP of the engine. and also the load inside Even with 4 it would reach 60 MPH if the engine is good;

maybe the engine of your 500 is weard out. Anyway they are unstoppable and I wish my new car I am about to buy has the same endurance as that lil tough Italiana

Keep your 500 or sell it to me, but don't shredd it

Yes I know they shake alot :) but no task is too big for them (the old one)

  • Comment removed

  • It's not mine, I just drove it twice in my life, had it borrowed for a day from my uncle. It's still alive, but not used any more, he replaced it with a mid 90's Punto. It was the 16.5 HP version, what about yours?

  • @MultiParasite I don't have one, but I drove one of them and the later model 126p I know how they drive

even when temperatures sore to 40°C the car keeps going, even in heavy traffic.... don't try that with the newest Bmw mercedes or audi/vw theengines will get overheated when you stand stil or go uphill

  • Put a Hayabusa engine in it...

  • @madjimms in the old or new one? or both?

  • @Rangeroversport12 I like the old one better, but put a Busa in both!

  • i just had a testdrive yesterday!!!! and its awsome :D

  • new 500 is huge

  • Wow I never thought I might like any other car show after watching Top Gear for so long. I actually started with the Aventador review but I like everything so far.

Nice to see some older stuff in the vids as well. 500 is awesome :D

  • 0-60: you are kidding ...

    LOL

  • Interesting, there seems to be less size difference between the old and new 500 than the old and new Mini.

  • by far the coolest car ever

  • The new 500 looks HUGE compared to the original.

  • The original one is the cutest little cunt on the road

  • That's Überly small. What was the minimum driving age in Italy back in '64? 9 years old?

  • The older is better. The new one is an expensive crap.

  • @cortkatanakx1q Find a crash test video.

  • @EgaoNoGenki You can buy better and bigger cars for that price and that's why I wrote that. I don't understand this modern era of "fashionable" cars. Older wasn't so expensive. And new it's not safe at all: watch?v=58zqJCtUjSI . I would never buy this car for my wife.

  • @cortkatanakx1q "Older wasn't so expensive." Older wasn't so good as new, you cannot compare that. Look at VW Beetle or Mini for example.

  • agree!!!! big time, the fiat 500 is an all time great !

  • mini gave us all front wheel drive transverse engines or if you want rear engine rear wheel drive hillman imp

  • mini or if you want rear engine rear wheel drive hillman imp

  • 57mph thats not so bad.

  • i reckon in a room full of one hundred people one of them would be an idiot

  • yah the guys right for some reason... i actually love both cars and wish i could own iether the two

  • HA! the smallest car is a "peel p50" Look it up!! (no joke) Thumbs up so every one can see

  • love the segment hope they keep going

  • Put the motor in the rear please, just like I wish VW would build a bug with the motor in the back just like the classic cars of old.

Yes I know I am crazy, and yes I know it will not happen but a crazy man can dream.

  • The grandson meets luighi from cars.

  • You guys should do BMW M3 meets its ancestor

  • This guy is a wannabe Quentin Willson, but the fiat 500 is still a good car

  • watched this with huge smile on my face

  • a rather good review...

  • Huh. Bad steering, no brakes, crap suspension. Sound like my beaten up Bronco =D

  • great vid

  • I love autocar.. No stupid 90 sec. verdicts, just real reviews and real INTELLIGENT people.. :)

  • He says indeed alot

  • More power than a veyron.

  • back rear wheel looks unstable/off camber on the old 500?

  • 0-60mph: you´re kidding xD

  • great review

  • great review

  • i thought the 2011 500 was small, until i saw the old one again

  • OLD > NEW

  • Hmm...How can I make this death trap look like a clown car?

  • @thnktank1

I don't know. How about you check out how it did in the EuroNCAP crash tests before you call it a "death trap"?

Oh, that's right it did get the full 5 stars for passenger safety. My question to you is what decade you live in or if checking up crash tests first before passing some ignorant judgment is even something you'd think about once in a hundred years.

You can't with a 35 point score and a 5 star rating for crash tests which are the toughest in the world. Can you?

  • @McLarenMercedes

You can't argue with a 35 point high rating.

Btw, you're not funny if you think that.

  • @McLarenMercedes

Any crash test lacks ability to compare many major parts of real-world crash risks/outcomes....active safety to avoid collision (braking, handling, stability ctrls), relative rollover risk/roof strength...My sense is much of safety analysis for a consumer depends upon a common sense understanding of the level of engineering innovation/thoroughness of a mfr, addressing both active and passive safety. Therein; the fault lies in the test, and the car.

  • the only reason that will stop me buying the new 1 is it is diffent from the old 1 , from rr to ff layout ? Why cant they make more rr cars ? Like the new beetle , i dont like it

  • Nice rolex

  • More 'Meet the ancestors' please Autocar, best videos on the site.

  • I like the concept of "meet the ancestors!" Please do more!

  • I'd take the twin-cylinder engine out, and put a single-cylinder in it. That is, I'd put a 700cc Maico two-stroke single in there, with 82hp. It's the engine out of the most ballistic traditional dirt-bike ever made, and the engine weighs less than 100lbs - and that includes the transmission. It's got a five-speed transmission, and because it's a motorcycle transmission, you can shift it without using the clutch most of the time. For fuel economy... well... there's blue smoke, so nevermind.

  • @JETZcorp It'd rip out both and put a Hayabusa engine in there. Fiat 500 with a Ferrari-like superbike sound. That's wassup.

  • @wildbloodydragon Well actually, because Fiat and Chrysler are now together, I'd say it's about time we really stopped messing about, and dropped in a 426 Hemi, with four headers sticking out each side and burning pedestrians to death.

  • @JETZcorp A carbed, blown 426 Hemi with a big blower on the hood and 315/50 ZR16 drag radials...shit that'd be something..hahaha

  • 1:00 L0LLL

    0-60mph: You're kidding.

  • lol =)

he's doing '...in the World' wrong :P

  • @TheVasquez112 I already know that, in fact some Chrysler dealerships will have to sell fiats, even here in Canada. What I want to see is the twinair model, which we probably will never get either Here or in the u.s. Just look at all the great european cars and engine combos we never got.

  • that is the same music that the KEG uses in their ads here in Canada.

  • I'm of the 1% too? Awesome. I'm guessing if you put 100 Italians in a room, they'd all say the fiat. :)

  • @calvins63 just a bad joke....chill out

  • 0-60mph... You're kidding!!!

  • Fiat could you PLEASE bring the twinair 500 to Canada.

  • very very cool!

  • the old one looks better

I would love to put a turbocharged hayabusa engine in the new one

  • the old one looks better

  • i was the 500th viewer

  • @lpfdco227

there only been 453 views you colossal turd! get a life, retard :L

  • original 500 (first smart car)

  • Best way to cut through the traffic in Milan or Turin is in a Ferrari 458 that is two things. One, doesn't belong to you and two, is insured by someone else.

  • I like this reviewer

  • Fifth Gear tested the Twin Air and they concluded that consumption is about the same as the four-pot. So it's mostly just a marketing gimmick.

  • The engine is in the wrong spot on the new one.

  • new engine???

conventional wisdom, more like it, when you cant invent something new, take something from a different country (cough, cough, japan) from years long forgotten (...1990's) and call it modern...

  • You are wrong... The greatest small car in the world is the VW Käfer ( or as you'd call him Beetle)... It reflects the economical progess of a whole country

  • @Karl21836 Hardly call the Beetle a small car. Besides that had it not been for the British Army it would never have been built. A British Major convinced the UK Government to rebuild the factory and restart production after the war ended.

  • @c53204 I never doubted that the British forces played a very important role in the rebuilding process of Germany and that's the reason why I don't understand that many Britains don't acknowlegde the Beetle as an important car. E.g. in a recent Top Gear episode they made complett fun of the Beetle by throwing it out of a helicopter ( to sum it up shortly). It might not be as small as a Fiat 500 or Mini but it is still not a big car and played a very important role for the automobile branch.

  • @Karl21836 The British love the Beetle. Not sure many people are aware of the involement with the British Army.

As for Top Gear - they also rate it very highly. On the African 'adventure' they used one as the 'ultimate' back up car - in case one of the presenters cars broke down.

Every member of my immediate and extended family has had at least one Beetle, or air cooled VW and we are all British. Have to say I drive a modern VW ;-)

  • @Karl21836 I had forgotten about the beetle, but I guess that even the original would be bigger than the new 500...

  • *paused at 0:21* thank you for clearing that up, dont want to confuse the fiat 500 for the greatest mini car in the world, the original ...mini cooper

  • I hope this does well in America, I would love to be to eventually buy an Alfa Romeo.

  • Why did this car lose its rear wheel, rear engine layout? That sounds like a lot fun.

  • indeed.

  • It's a real shame that the MPG figures are nowhere NEAR what fiat claim with this engine. fiat say 70mpg, yet many automotive sources have only managed around 35mpg. which, for something that only has 2cy and less then 1litre, is crap!

  • Look at the size of the old one!

How did anyone ever fit in?

  • it´s funny that the video is actually 5:00 long :)

  • @hoadinga that is interesting

  • i cant believe it the first one is just as ugly as the modern one

  • 0-60mph: You're kidding

  • @saletrans123 its not a raceing car,its a cheap eco car,if u want speed get a sports car...

  • @RnB123100 yes i know i copied the text in the video ;)

  • @saletrans123 oh,ok :)

  • @saletrans123 so you have no original thought, thanks for your contribution

    /sarcasm

  • first fiat comment yyyyaaa!!!!

  • @08davidcregan1 nope. your not the first comment

  • @SANDEM4N that half HP is like VTEC for honda :D

  • @lilmaz and a half :P

  • Comment removed

  • @lilmaz 16 and a half. lol.

  • @lilmaz 16.5bhp. AND A HALF!! that half bhp is very important

  • @lilmaz

    16.5hp

  • @lilmaz It's immense

  • @lilmaz it doesnt weigh anything so it doesnt need a lot of power

  • Fiat 500 is the top goon
