@MrDopeKeen Brahms wrote this piece as something of a spoof of academia. (He was conferred an honorary degree, then told it was customary to write a "thank you" piece, as I recall the story. This was his response.) Hence the abrupt allusion to Gaudeamus, a traditional academic drinking song, is justified.
@Ramstein1939 No way! As a semi-professional horn player, I can tell you that it is the best part of the whole piece!!! But thanks for the sympathy. :)
I can also confirm that it is in both the 3rd and 4th horn parts, although the complete line is only played by the 3rd horn.

8:40 I was really bewildered to find an extract of "Gaudeamus Igitur". Could anybody explain me the origin of this? Thank you.

Brilliant performance. The beginning tempo could be about 17 beats slower. Wonderful.

Being a percussionist, it's (almost) all about the rhythm. And I hate when ensembles can't get the syncopation....
But they nail it on this recording. Great performance.

Beautiful, the maestoso was absolutely beautiful. It really just summed up the whole entire piece perfectly. A superb performance indeed.

Everytime I hear this song, at 4:20, I think "Poor horns."

@Ramstein1939 It's actually only the third horn and it's a frequently asked horn excerpt at third horn auditions.

@Ramstein1939 Us violas have to play that in the arranged version for just strings. Probably the most exciting moment for us.
