Superior Pilots use superior judgement to avoid situations that require the use of superior skill to get out of them! This my friends, is NOT a superior pilot. Anyone commenting on how cool he is, or awesome, deserves to be in the back seat whilst he is flying and kills you ALL!
@Bullenduzer The maneuver in the video is called a"Hammerhead", but the pilot misjudged his rate of descent. Luckily he only spread the skids. If he had hit much harder he very easily could have had a tail boom strike, where the main rotor flexes down too far and hits the tail boom. The emergency manuever your thinking about is an "autorotation" and those can be practiced with the throttle on idle, all the way down to touchdown, and nearly always on a paved runway. This was not one of those.
@captjay2008 Thanks. I've never flown a 206, but even with your info, I don't think I'd make it a practice to prang it in from 20 ft. It wouldn't seem to be conducive to continued flight operations. :-)
I'm thinking maybe not enough aft cyclic and up collective inputs to stop the rate of descent. The pilot could have successfully performed that maneuver without contacting the ground. Fortunate to be lucky enough not to wreck the helicopter and get killed in the process. I think there were passengers in that helicopter during that maneuver.
risky

this Pilot is a idiot dement and crazy Very CRAZY

It is too dangerous to do that with a helicopter. The pilot could be killed anytime. Good luck doesn't always happen, but accidents do.

ppl come down! xD
this is an emergency maneuver in case of engine shut down .
at my time in the german army the pilots have to practice that. ;)
but doing this in front of many people is very dangerous.
