I love all of Domingo's work. He is so versatile. My problem is I could for the longest time not point to a role and he would be the first tenor that came to mind. You say Andrea Chenier, the first tenor that comes to mind is Franco Corelli. You say Otello, I think Mario Del Monaco. But Domingo has been so good and versatile and so good for so long. It is amazing.
@sugarbist, que persona mas increible eres¡ What a jealous man¡ Any personal problem with Domingo? Your hatefulness to Domingo is sadly curious indeed¡
@dlagrua well said no one has come even close to corellis rendition of this aria. domingo has a pleasant enough voice but second rate compered to corelli. the greatest of all time
This is one of the great arias that lends itself to both lyric and dramatic interpretations. DiStefano's version is sweet, melodic and unforgettable. But when we speak of the great tenors, Placido is too often overlooked. Here he is with all the heart, power and beauty at his disposal. A brilliant, heart-rending rendition. Pavarotti, by voice and character, got most of the attention, but Placido is a gift to our generation, the best dramatic tenor of his era, one of the all time greats.
This is a very good and enjoyable performance by Domingo but no one sang this this piece like Franco Corelli did . On this song Corelli was without equal -absolutely perfect!
Wonderful combination of beauty and power, and deeply felt as well -- thank the Lord we've had Domingo to give us those qualities for the last 40 years. It can no longer be doubted: he is solidly among the greatest tenors of whom we have recordings (and videos). Bravo, Maestro Domingo!

Even at this young age ,Domingo seems to be struggling a lot when reaching the passaggio just before the B-FLAT

Great, but no one has or will ever equal Franco Correllis rendition of this aria. That guy had to be from another planet.

try aureliano pertile for the original tenor from another planet!!!

@operabitch77 BRAVO!!! o know your tenors. Pertile is the best in 'Come un bel di'..

Corelli era sovrumano, un dio del canto. Metterlo nel computo dei tenori è quasi crudele.
