  • ....his hands look very quick this at bat

  • @TheDJ596 His hands look quick every at bat.

  • Long beach state blair field....I used to watch troy tulowitski and evan longoria play there before they got drafted

  • I just played there yesterday.

  • 0:37 was that glass breaking

  • @paulblartjr sound effects..

  • Blair Field!!! Love that park great place to watch a game I watched Jered Weaver, Troy Tulowitski, and Evan Longoria play here before they got drafted and made their way into the big leagues.

  • Crash

  • type in Bryce Harper theme song. Its perfect for him

  • lysergic32 most of these kids are pro looks, so in showcase events like this, and Aflac, and Perfect Game the kids all use wood. Even though, yes they do use metal in high school and college.

  • @pbnumber5 I dont know how it is in the states but over here in canada we use wood in high school do you really use metal in high school over there?

  • @CanadianxSoul Here in the states you actually have a chose to use wood or metal, but 99.9 percent of kids use metal. We also use metal in college, however at junior colleges a lot more people use wood, and yes again this is for pro scouts.

  • @pbnumber5 i think high school and college should use wood

  • @cam21fr I think it depends on the kid's skill level. Kids do have the choice, but most kids aren't Bryce Harper. I personally don't think there is a big difference between metal and wood ( besides the size of the sweet spot). But, unless you are trying to impress major league scouts, I think it's best to use metal. All kids should practice with wood though.

  • @pbnumber5 yah. i always practice with wood. i walways take BP with wood. i use a demarini voodoo in games

  • @pbnumber5 there is a huge difference in wood and metal! the way the ball comes off the bat is the biggest, the ball will fly off of a metal bat no matter the strength or age, but with wood u need a great swing and even more power to come close to the pop a wood bat gives you.

  • 0:37 lol

  • yeah all the time. you caught me. but im going to stop talkign because your scaring me over this computer shit talking

  • okay

  • he doesnt look anywhere near as comfortable with a wood bat as he does with metal...really shows you who can hit and who cant

  • hes 16. ur supposed to use metal in high school and college. the minor leagues is where you spend time getting used to the changes.

  • lol are you basing that off of watching one AB?

  • @756F i would take him with a broomstick over any other 17 year old in the country dude c'mon

  • havee3333333 and grizzlyadms34.....you are both stupid talking crap over a computer.

  • @arod112989 fuck you arod mind your own business

  • your a queer. but man you showed him haha

  • @arod112989 roflcopters

  • um yeah whatever you say

  • Is bryce harper even 17 yet?

  • Lets settle it at this. Your both fags. At the end of the day neither of you are going to the majors. Bryce Harper is going to be a good player in the MLB but no one knows how is career will end up. Arguing online is pointless

  • guys the only reason he is doing so good is because he has peaked age doesn't matter at all... so what if he hit a 502ft homerun at the age of 16... that is because he has peaked already... what do you think he'll hit when he's 25? probably about 450ft..... I'm not saying he's not a great player though... I think he has a great swing for himself and he'll go deep into his baseball career with it...

  • he deffinatly didnt peak yet, hes only in highschol and if he continues to work like he does then he is gunna get alot better

  • lmfao??? yeah he has there's something called peaking early and a lot of people do it... so what if he is in high school.... in high school Josh Hamilton hit a 621 foot homerun do you think he can do that now?

  • you know what... your gay

  • and you know what? he can kick ur ass so go fuck off and quit hatin on muh boy bryce u fuckin prick

  • WTF??? I just said he has reached his peak at an early age... 450 feet is still crazy... Tell me, can you hit the ball 450 feet or much less count to it? Do you know how much practice it takes for a 16 year old to hit the ball 502 feet and keep that up for his whole career or the 570 foot homerun he hit last year? Yes great for a 16 year old, but you probably don't have the slightest clue on how much practice it takes to do that... He goes to the batting cages 5 days a week...

  • I go to the batting cages 6 days a week during season. hes a gifted player and hes going to keep getting better if he keeps practiceing u fuck

  • wow... you really don't know how the body works do you? You don't get better because you practice everyday when you get older... When your young practice will make you better... But when your 20 practice only maintains how you play...

  • your an idiot anytime in your life when u practice u will get better

  • yes you will get better when you suck at baseball you will... you can't get better when your near perfect... what are you like 12? keep up the practice ull get better... this guy doesn't have much years left of getting better... im not saying hes going to suck though... you obviously think im saying he sucks because your retarded

  • yeah im retarded. u obviously must have been real fuckin successful in your baseball career to be talkin all this shit. u dont know what your talking about. im 14 and im smarter than u when it comes to baseball. u should be real fuckin proud.

and nobodys perfect buddy, bryce harperisnt close to perfect... hes great, but not perfect. theirs always room for improvement. maybe not when hes batting 1000 in the mlb but i dontsee that happening soon

  • @havee3333333 josh hamilton can still drop bombs

  • yes... But, I said he can't hit a ball 600 feet I am aware he can hit the ball deep

  • oh he can hit it 600 that man is a gift from god

  • and your a gift from the mens bath house... get off his cock!!!!

  • @havee3333333 you bite your tongue that man is a saint

  • wow... I'm talking about you jew ass

  • @havee3333333 i know you're talking about me shit head.. get a life fag

  • lol shit head?? lame insult...

  • @havee3333333 really how bout assclown assclown

  • eew so 9 years ago

  • @havee3333333 eww shut your fucking mouth douche

  • wow... lmfao!!! what a looser...

  • learn to spell fag

  • such a nerdy thing to say

  • ok figure in the majors the ball is comming at (average fastball) about 93 now take the bat speed which should be in the 80s if not 90s add the two togther and u get about 180- 190 mph that is the speed that the two will make contact now the ball will go with the wind or againts it which will either push the ball down or push it further. which is a factor in how hard the ball is hit

  • It really depends on the bat, if i go out and buy an aluminum bat for 25$ and then order some 80$ wood bat. that wood bat will probably hit further than the aluminum bat. so it really depends what aluminum bat were talking about.

  • your a moron

  • /watch?v=3ARp4Fpg1KI

  • why do you think the pro's use wooden bats? If they used aluminum bats a pitcher can be killed by a line drive and there would be so much more homeruns hit. A normal flyball to center would go 500 feet.

  • I can not believe this guy said you hit the ball farther with wood. Go play some real baseball. If you don't know what your talking about, why try to?

  • zdrumer12 ur also wrong the lighter the bat the faster u can swing it bat speed = distance it the bat is really heavy, u cant swing it as fast as u can a lighter bat therfore it doesnt go as far, if u have a light bat u can swing it much faster at strike the ball with greater velocity and thus making the ball travel farther

  • you have to account for the weight of the bat adding to the force driving the ball. as long as you can get your bat around a heavier bat doesnt hurt you. go play the game sometime

  • ok well i ACTUALLY play baseball and kitkatjunkie you are SOOOOO wrong its not even funny aluminum bats and composite bats haveee sooooo much more pop u can hit a ball almost 50-90 ft farther with aluminum there are more reasons than urs which arent even why major leaugers dont use aluminum, they cud prob kill somone with aluminum U have no clue what ur talking about

  • heavier bats give you power

  • no way man its all about bat speed

  • Aluminum bats give a batter more distance no question

  • YOU CAN HIT FURTHER WITH WOODEN BATS BECAUSE IT HAS A BIGGER MASS THAN AN ALUMINUM BATS! youngsters use metal bats because it is easier to hit with, as in hitting less foul balls and you can place it better.

it is more difficult to hit a homerun with an aluminum bat. believe me.

  • lol @ you retard haha

  • @KitKatJunkie

are u stupid you can hit further homeruns with aluminum cause there lighter and have bigger sweet spots. its harder to hit homerums with wood bats

  • lmfao!!!!!!!!! wow learn about baseball before you come here and decide to talk

  • the perfect example of technic in homeruns even more the griffey jr. is dustin pedroia. Griffey wasn't built like ryan howard, but he was still 6'3'' 205 for the majority of his career, same thing with this kid. padroia is 5'9'' 180 and he's still putting up double digits in homeruns.

  • theres not a huge difference? are you kidding me? so youre saying that a 16 year old kid has the record in tropicana park bc he is just that good and not bc he is using a metal bat? are you serious?! so youre saying he would ahve hit a 492 shot at least if it was a wood bat? please you obviously know nothing about bats.

  • Furthermore.....streangth is huge in hitting homeruns.

Look at the pros who are taking roids..and what happens when they get off them. Its a simple physics problem. momentum is equal to bat speed X mass of the bat.

The larger bat you use. you can swing it at lower bat speeds and still hit the ball out given a certain momentum desired. You use a smaller bat and you have a much shorter htting window because you will be swinging like griffey does. He strikes out a lot...and have a huge swing.

  • griffey jr does not strike out a lot

the most he's ever struck out in a season was 120 times. which is a good amount but nothing compared to the 70s and 80s he posted throughout his career. and he does not have a huge swing. he wouldnt be a .285+ lifetime hitter. he gets extended on the ball which makes his swing look long, but its just as quick as anyone else's.

  • I just read a comment here that there isn't much difference between a wood bat and a metal bat.

    ARE YOU CRAZY?

There is a big difference between a brand new composite bat and a broken in composite bat....as in 40-50FT difference. There have been thesis done on this very argument....and a reason why composite bats are not allowed at D1 level anymore.

There is a huge difference! weight, pop, swing speed, etc.

  • I hear you MrAdidas.I played 4 years of college and a year of indipendent ball,Im very familiar with the game, but ken griffey jr never hit a balls 570 WOOD OR ALUMINUM.And no one says the kid doesnt have an awesome swing.I hit a ball 500 feet before, there was a fucking tornado that had just touched down and I had about 60 mph wind to help me and I crushed it,and it was realy more like 490ft,but 570 is a bit much. And steroids are everywhere at every level even vegas.if its natural its amazing

  • If ur not convinced with Ken Griffey Jr, jsut look @ his homers & swing, as soon as he hits a homer he knows its gone. Another athelete who was small but had the hardest shot in the NHL for yrs was Al MacInnis. Find Al MacInnis's slap shots & compare his size 2 the other monsters who were taking slap shots. MacInnis had a shot that was over 102 mph & he was only 6'1" 200lbs Now the record holder is Zedeno Chara with a 105.4 mph @ 6'9" 260lbs. Its all about technic when ur the smallest.

  • Ken Griffey Jr would have beaten the homerun record if not 4 him getting hurt so much after he left Seatle, but look @ Griffey Jr's size, one of the best hitters & homerun hitter 2 have ever played baseball, yet hes one of the smallest hitters with the records & achievments he has accomplished, how do u ask.... easy.

Its called TECHNIC, I think Bryce Harper is alot like Ken Jr, Griffey EX: hit many many homers b/c of his swing/technic Griffey wasnt on roids but hit homers like crazy, like Bryce

  • Roids/Strength have nothing 2 do with hitting far Homers, u guys r missing so many variables in order 2 hit the ball, but 2 hit the ball far depend on many diff factors such as... Speed of the ball comming in, type of pitch thrown, speed of the baters "rotation", his eye & hand coordination, which part of the bat hits the ball, kind of bat (Aluminum), wind speed & direction, reflex speed etc etc etc I will give u the best example that size & strength mean nothing when u hit homers Ken Grifey Jr

  • if u listen after his hit it sounds like braking glass lol

  • pretty much anyone this good has the right to be cocky! this just doesnt seem physically possible to hit a 570 ft bomb without some sort of enhancment

  • One of my good friends played semi pro in Vegas and got a chance to meet Harper.I asked all bout the kid and if he was as good as everyone said he was, my budy whos 26 said that he was better then most the hitters in his league. He also said the kid was shreded as fuck, that his body was not that of a 16 year olds.He basicaly implied that the kid was on roids.I personaly think my buddy was jealouse because he himself is on roids, and has issues but, same time 570 seems a bit much for nature @16

  • Because he hit it with ALUMINUM and not wood. There is a HUGE difference, believe me.

  • there is not much difference between aluminum bats and wood bats... maybe 5 to 10 feet distance.. the main difference between the 2 are you can get jammd and still hit the ball ut with an aluminum but with a woody is damn near impossible

  • oh and from what i heard it was measured days after and his high school coach did it... its all speculation and im sure it was beefed up alot.. 501 i believe but 570 is a load of bs..

  • you guys dont kn ow what your talkin about... livin off of 10+ mil. shut up you haters

  • the kid is a supernatural and is frigen amazing

  • my brothers P= w/t and W(work)= .5m (v squared) v being velocity...there are many elements to what all of u call power...bat speed which is in turn generated by the person (strength + mechanics) which determines bat speed and then the point of contact has a lot to do with it too there are many variables and how far u hit the ball has much more to do than just raw "power"

  • this kid is amazing. He's 16 and quit high school and is playing at CSN.

  • He's pretty much stupid too, what if he gets injured or something, then what will he fall back on

  • hes a cocky kid, but a kid this good is going to get a good enough signing bonus to live on for life

  • strength doesn't hit a ball far, power does

  • bat speed hits the ball far

  • this comment makes no sence my man,bat speed and hand eye hits the ball far

  • yep and reality is his toughest test is yet to come since he is great AT THIS LEVEL and baseball unlike any other sport is different in the fact that amateur level is nowhere near to professional level I mean the kid has the tools but there are many players have the tools but just cannot adjust to the MLB level

  • This is by far the smartest comment I have ever see on an actual baseball video. Its good to know there are still some smart people in the world.

  • thanks for your comment! Where do you play baseball?? High school?

  • far u hit the ball consists of many elements such as what part of the barrel u hit the ball with, bat speed, strength from the hitter so its rather meaningless to speak about "power"

  • k he is this great instead of cheering ... or how hard he hits thae ball they all go oooooooh liked they never seen a ball hit before

  • knowledgeable about it but the more bat speed the more power u have thats just physics and frank thomas was able to hit for power bc he was a very strong guy which also comes into play.. it is not practical tho to compare "power" (i dont know what ppl mean by power bc they are given different meanings to it by many of u) between hitters since how

  • obviously you can't have some power w/o bat speed, however, most of your power comes from your core and your base (lower half). They are almost equals, no need for people to fight about it, you can't really have one w/o the other, great hands could equal an ichiro type hitter, not necessarily any power, then look at Frank Thomas who was always criticized about bat speed but had an amazing core and huge trunks which equaled light tower power

  • I dont know why people comment when they dont know much...most of your bat speed IS generated by your core and lower half your hands dont even start moving until after more than half of the motion of the swing is done of course some ppl have quicker hands than other ppl and it helps a lot but bat speed is generated by the torque created before u even move your hands/arms...steve u are quite

  • ummmmmm kiwi dude shut up he was just on the cover of si as a 16 year old hes for sure going pro hes amazing unlike u

  • Comment removed

  • hey 3rdbasemen34 stop acting like a tough guy ur probably cause u made jv as a senior again

  • was that a home run because it looked like he started to jog once he got to first'

  • How much does he bench?

  • does it matter?

  • who gives a fuck about batting gloves as long as someone doesnt wear fuckin 30 wristbands. o and no you dont have to use gloves w tar im a catcher and i dont get it on the ball

  • but if you did oh boy the other manager would freak it would be just like the kenny rogers incident

  • true

  • 3rdbasemen34 shut the hell up. baseball is not a fashion show. it is americas pastime!!!

  • Comment removed

  • ok you dont know baseball hes rounding the bag...hes allowed to do that.

  • I was in that game.

    They call me "The Brain"

  • he has such a beautiful left handed swing

  • i know, his swing and Joe Mauer's, i just want to make love to

  • haha thats great but what is it with his weird leg kick thing?

  • probably for timing and rhythm

  • i think the way he twists it gives him a tiny tiny bit more power

  • when he twists his leg like that get gains a whole lot of bat speed which in turn does equal more power... hes gonna be a stud later on

  • bat speed doesnt equal power

  • wow skittlz7986 you're retarted

  • u fucking idiot thats wat power is so stfu

  • but it helps

  • are u retarded???

  • retard everyone knows that power comes from bat speed...... what did you think it came from

  • Also comes from the legs so before you insult someone do you research. If you stand still and use all your bat speed you won't have near as much power as when you use your legs to drive your weight to the ball.

  • yes your legs help add bat speed btw do you even play

  • @Footicus Ya because you wont have the bat speed not using your lower half dumbass what a horrible example

  • dude ur a dumbasss. bat speed is how fast ur bat gets through the zone so u can swing later meaning u can see the pitches better. power is how strong someone is. and footicus is right, do some fuckin research so u guys dont sound stupid

  • He's a stud right now.

  • yeah batting gloves arent needed at all, who gives a shit if u get jammed you'll be fine

  • You guys are idiots....there are several reasons to wear batting gloves...but that doesn't mean you have to. They may help you grip the bat better (you can put pine tar on batting gloves but not you hands because you have to throw the baseball in the field), they take sting off if you hit it off the end of the bat or get jammed, also for base running purposes so you don't tear up your hands, and sometimes just because you are used to it.

  • plus pine tar to the hands isnt exactly fun haha

  • its the area code games. anyone who plays HS baseball wants to play in the area code games. straight pro try out so its all wood.

  • hes using a metal bat in that video, you have to wear batting gloves with a metal bat, unless your an idiot.

  • no u dont. i dont wear battin gloves and my hands r fine...no blisters or anythin

  • i guess you lotion up before hitting then. i wouldnt go without batting gloves, id rather have my hands soft for my girl.

  • i'm known for my soft hands baby

  • haha

  • not true. it will only hurt if you get jammed

  • metal bats have grip already on em, so you dont need gloves...wooden bats dont tho so normally u do need gloves

  • the article about him in sports illustrated says he doesn't use batting gloves at all just dirt

  • now thats the truth, or they just wanna look cool...

  • Have you ever played baseball on a daily basis. Batting gloves protect your hands from getting blisters and some players like the feel of them while they hit.

  • you are a fuckhead. do you even fuckin play baseball?

  • u serious right now it is more why would you be more prone to wearing batting gloves with aluminum than wood its the opposite genius

  • @birdmansns y? that makes no sense

  • he needs to olay the outfield catcher is no postion if this guy is gonna be a homerun hitter

  • 1-2 count this kid smacks it lol hes nice ppl need to stop hating

  • this kid is NICE

  • this kid is amazing but everybody forgets hes only 16. how do u know he wont get hurt? what if he doesnt have the work ethic? etc......u never know what could happen well see what happens 2 0r 3 years from now

  • Lol you just go to vids about him to say he sucks. I saw you on one saying Christian Lopes is better. Why you hating on him?

  • you have a point about his age but about his work ethic...you should read up on him a bit. Kid works his ass off plays damn near constantly. They want him to play LESS because they dont want him to burn out...scouts compare his game attitude to pete rose, he plays everything aggressively.

  • if he know's how to handle it then he'll be fine. i would love to be on the cover of si

  • WOW, thats impressive. Hes 15 years old here hitting off All American and All State Jr and Sr pitching at the Area Code Games. That being said; hope hes as strong mentally as he is physically. Why in the world would his parents let him be on the cover of SI at 16? What purpose does it serve? If hes the real deal, he will be the top pick anyway. Why put that much pressure on a high school kid? Now he cant go to the mall or get something to eat without autograph seekers, groupies, etc.

  • Baseball is the hardest sport to project; ask Robert Stock. I cant imagine Ken Griffey Sr letting his son be on the cover Of SI at 16. Dont quote me, but I think Jr tried to take his life in high school due to all of the pressure. Everyone knows the story of Josh Hamilton, the list is long, the crown is heavy.

  • Its ridiculous. Theres no where to go except down in many respects.

SI should be ashamed of themselves. SCUMBAG MEDIA VULTURES. Im going to cancel my SI subscription ASAP.

  • I can't believe all the haters. Just let it go, there are people out there that are better than you. Accept it, the guy is the real deal. I just hope that he stays on the right path, and doesn't have a beginning like Josh Hamilton. As far as steroids....you must be joking. The guy isn't 6'3" #250 of pure muscle. He is a string bean, which is even scarier because he WILL grow into his frame. Then watch all the steroid talk. Stay strong kid, keep your head down, and do your work.

  • A string bean??? The kid is 6'3'' 205 lbs at 16!!! By the time he gets drafted he'll be bigger, more mature, and he will have a lot more experience, high-school to pro baseball is by far the biggest and hardest jump, if he does that, he deserves anything good he gets...

  • Any1 know what wood bat company he likes to swing. I aint jumping on his dick, just like to know what people swing.

  • does he have to pick up dirt in between every swing. stay in the box!

  • I love how everyone on youtube is like "Yeah I throw 800 mph and I hit over 9000 feet. I'm just the shit, and I'm only 5 years old."

  • im a collegiate pitcher from pennsylvania. would love to face him

  • community college club ball doesn't count.

  • how much does he bench

  • too bad that has nothing to do with his swing

  • what kind of wood is that, sounds great

  • it's not the wood that makes the sound but the guy having the perfect combo of a sweet spot swing with a great stroke.
