@mikeymana yes and no. Helis can do some things planes can, such as airstrikes and the like. What makes helis so important is their ability to land and take off in much smaller locations than a plane. Helicopters can also hover or reverse, opposed to a plane which can only go forward when airborne. Helicopters saw prominent use during the Korean war, the Bell 47 (you may recognize it from MASH) played an important role. During Vietnam the Huey was ubiquitously used.
