I don't know why everyone hates on the NES metal gears. Especially snake's revenge which fixed most problems with 1st NES metal gear. And it's the only one I can equip my gun and knife at the same time AND use both without switching a weapon. Plus the addition of jungle, desert, etc. in both NES games adds depth. That said, I hate the MSX cause it's like a keyboard but the metal gears from MSX are AMAZING. Love metal gear.

I know the ps2 version has upgraded graphics and some fixes... but just having played through the NES version... it was total garbage compared to this.

Just basic game design and level design apparently severely suffered in the port =(

the nes version was deformed with lack of atention to the stealth element, the controls were bad, no continues, and a long-ass password. at least the Encounter music was superior

@Kaste11 This is one of the bonuses included in Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence. You can play this (Metal Gear) and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake both for the MSX. ONLY on the Subsistence version of MGS3 (not the Snake eater version). Not too pricey in America, but you'll pay the Earth for it elsewhere.

@karrotgold You can just buy the msx version elsewhere. That's why subsistence is cheap here. For some reason MSX wasn't marketed in the US but pretty much the rest of the world. Europe and Asia were it's biggest markets.

You know, the thing I find clever about including MG1 and MG2 in this expanded version of MGS3 (apart from the fact that it's done to give USA fans a chance to play the original MSX games), is that they're both actually sequels to Snake Eater, and show fans what happened to the character they controlled (Big Boss I mean), and hints to us that The Boss' dreams were what inspired him to create Outer Heaven, and later taking up the position of Zanzibar Land's CO.

Subsistence not only comes with this game, but also its sequel, Metal Gear 2, and the new camera actually makes Snake Eater a much more enjoyable play. Honestly, I would say that it's worth it whether or not you have the original.

I dont see the point in making these as 3d-games. The storyline can be perfectlty adapted into new games, and still have these games as flashbacks (as in MGS4). Thanks for uploading!

There's no real point to make this and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake in 3D aside from the fanservice aspect.

Then again, fanservice can sell these days. I'd love to see Solid younger than he was in MGS and taking orders from Big Boss.

The only thing is that there are a ton of parts in Metal Gear that MGS did as an homage (the tank, electric floor, opening, etc). If they did make new gen versions, I'd like to see Solid come up with new ways to get across these obstacles.

This is the PS2 port for MGS3: Subsistence. They added an 'Easy' difficulty for the PS2 version. If you do have the PS2 version, then I don't know what is wrong

Also the nes one changed boss names, included a introduction level in a jungle with 2 other soldiers (never seen again) and the abillity to skip massive parts of the game - When you've to get into a truck to get into the base there are several others, get in one of them and it'll take you to another area of the game nearer te end. Also In my opinion the music is better in this one.

Huh. This seems to be very different from the NES version I played. Couldn't even get past the dogs in that version because of how badly designed the level was. Stealth action my ass...

This looks much better, though. :P It'll be great to play, I'm sure. (I'm buying Subsistance this weekend.)
