And i think under the circumstances America's decision was justifiable. and you keep mentioning civilians deaths but you seem to be missing that if two of the most advanced fighting countries in the world went to war then the effect on both nations would be catastrophic. Pearl Harbor happened years ago before the Vietnam War. These surviving Japanese soldiers are now in their graves. They no longer have a military power and we have navy fleets surrounding their country. They are no longer a threat since they lost the war. I been to Japan before, a lot of them are not like their grandparents or great grands.

@hazzabazzatunic Even though I have my dislikes with weapons of mass destruction, however, I do agree, the atom bombs were the best choice, it was pretty much the only way to make Japan surrender, not lose anymore people in the war. If American soldiers reached mainland Japan, they be fighting militias, civilians who are armed and more will die.

@utopia9000 I am quite aware of the damage caused in nagasaki and hiroshima, however, soon after Japan surrendered documents were found that stated every man, woman and child would have to give their lives to defend the emperor if he said so. If America were forced to invade mainland Japan, the death toll would have literally been unimaginable. There is no correct answer if america's actions were justifiable but i personally belive, under those circumstances, their actions were necessary.
