I play this song on tuba and I always have to argue with the first chair tuba that I should play the low notes because he always play the high notes and sucks at the low notes... first chair rightfully belongs to me either way
Well played Eastman. But ladies and gents, we have a musical moron in our midst : someone has "disliked" this piece! How..what..why? Freedom of speech is such a great thing, even when you're wrong.
Did anyone else realize that the part w the picc solo....those couple bars sound like green bushes by grainger!! I wanted tht picc part sooo bad cuz I love love love green bushes and I feel like I cud play it so much better thn the soloist we actually have....she sucks and she cant tune the thing -.-
I love playing this on string bass, It is sooo pretty and I just can't get enough of that slow vibrato on the low notes. Its like the best feeling ever!
@marchingeaglesfreak Lol, I'm the absolute worst when it comes to playing for other people or playing solos. It's not too horrible, just take a deep breath and it's all just long tones and lyrical so if you're calm then the sound won't be shaky :P
This song is my favourite of the whole English Folk Song Suite! I just had to change the whole Eb clarinet part to Bb clarinet and I now get to play the melody! So excited!
My band is playing this this year. I don't care much for this second movement, but the second half is pretty cool, and so is the end when we finally have the melody. I'm on 2nd clarinet.
I was lead trumpet player when we played this... I remember playing all the solos in this movement and finding my GF in the audience making out with some other guy... awesome.
ya i play tuba and so i have the tuba feature which is really cool as well. we play it really well for the second concert band at our school which has a ton of freshmen and only two seniors so its very good
I'm playing this for my spring concert too, but i don't get the solo, because i'm 2nd oboe. This is such a beautiful piece of music. My favorite out of the 5 years i've been playing oboe.
it's all about that bass clarinet ;))

There is a pianissimo cymbal strike or crash at 3:33 that is exquisite. Just the perfect touch for that moment in the music.
