  • I would have 12!!!!!

  • I'd have 6 brick laid by the time he lays 1

  • yeah I like american country music while laying....

  • I dont no about speed but this guy is not a 25 year bricklayer. I have seen apprentice's lay brick by putting there fingers in the hole but never a 25 year man. He dont no how to spread a wall for another thing and he is using a lot of wasted movements if any of you people stand by this guy as being a pro you cant even have a clue. This guy could not lay a brick in a fucking wheel Barrow.

  • to all you people that say its about speed, whenever your wall is cracking after a few years because you didnt take the time to strike your joints and such, youd wish you took the time and took your time. id hire this guy over a speedster that builds walls as dirty as hell any day.

  • not bad for a first year apprentice

  • Excellent. I've started a brick and granite stone fireplace comment and just watching this has given me some insight on bricklaying. thanks.

  • @Unwyred Man i hate to see how that turned out. This guy is not a Mason! And if he is he needs to get into something else.

  • good skill ...

    and nice song too...

    :)

  • Keep up the good work mate,,

  • he is a mint brickie he takes is time in britan where i live thease new houces a just thrown up with no care i am 12 i have been laying bricks with my grandad and for my grandad since i was 4 its not all about speed

  • if and when this recession goes i recomend buying shares in proctor &gamble makers of fairy liquid

  • I love these "heritage antique" bricks. Looks really nice dude. I understand you're taking your time but thats quality. Nobody looks at a wall and says "wow I wonder how fast they did that". If its a bad job they look at the wall and say "wow who did that, looks like shit!" so props to doing quality work.. Keep it up.

  • Seems neat enough but slow. Don't think about the brick your laying, think about laying the next brick! Wondered Why is he laying the wrong way, then realised he's left handed.

  • simple work to your hand there is nothing wrong here

  • I wish I'd taken up bricklaying in my younger days. It really is fascinating how these guys do their job.

  • Good stuff there

  • small town america....duelling banjos

  • you can tell he's done it for awhile he is taking his time when he was younger i bet he was pretty good. and i agree Jrm4cam a bricky should be able to go both directions i see it all the time they trade sides on a big wall if they guage it prop. and communicate with each other then there shouldn't be any trouble

  • i would of laid two courses beside him in the same time and you woudn't of had heard me because I don't tap my brick in place, I lay them. Its a bad habit and in the course of a day takes production away. The way he spread mud was Mickey Mouse but for a do it yourselfer, he's laying to the line properly and has full head joints.(Journeymen Mason for 10 years, contractor for 8) You've gotta bevel the back of the mortor bed to prevent mortar extruding into the cavity as well.

  • @rhinestone5150

Its true. Its called a mortar bridge and cause moisture to collect which makes dampness in the wall. And we all know what dampness in the wall makes.

  • the morter might of been to dry and this is easy coz your leaning it on a wall in collage we use a narking gage and NO wall

  • should the bricks just rest on each other cause i went to my college open evening and i wana do bricklayin so they said u wannt have a go i did two courses but everytime i put one brick on the other one started to move is this normal

  • Oh Yeah, Is it a vital & necessary part of Bricklaying to have 'Country & Western' playing in the background, Dont think i have any Country tracks anywhere in the house - prefer the tweet of birds myself :)

  • Looks good to me - i'm laying bricks for a shed base today and thought i'd just check out how its done first.

    Cheers for the display.

    D

  • Bricklaying is such an underrated skill...I'd love to learn to how to lay bricks like this guy. Well done.

  • whats the song in the background

  • @action3909 Brad Paisley, waitin on a woman (i win)

  • what is the song is in the background?

  • rignt on Jamesgates12- some one has to teach these young ones. He just enjoys putting them in the wall. Slow and easy, faster sometimes when he needs too. He has been laying brick for over 25 years now. I'd say he knows what he's doing.

  • the bloody idiot is working the wrong way hes working against his hand

  • lay em high lay low lay em slow you gotta go

  • what matter is does it look good? I've seen guys try to fly down the wall to impress the boss and then it looks like a pile of shit. I'd rather see a few bricks layed right then a bunch layed either crooked or tripped, or just not too the line.

Too many hacks and not enough masons.

  • Your a left handed bricklayer. not many lay left handed. Im right handed and it is nice working with a left handed bricklayer when running a wall and meeting in the middle laying backwards because two right handed bricklayers laying a wall, One going forward and one backwards when meeting in the middle the one laying forward sometimes is not able to turn is body and lay and gets in the way.

  • rough as hell..ule

  • MUDDDDD!!!!

  • It surprises my to see him spread mud that way. Everyone I've ever worked with spreads going away from the brick of you know what I mean?

    To each his own eh?

  • shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lefty like me!! gitterdun!!!

  • nice

  • a lefty

  • 2 slow 2 make money,so not really stress free

  • Awaugh24-Lets see a video of you laying brick!!! This guy doesnt need to make money, do you OWN your house!!! You can lay brick at his pace when you dont pay rent or a house payment. Think about that mister know it all!!!!

  • @awaugh24 not allways about money, some poeple just enjoy building stuff, ilke my only 3 dreams in the world is to have a 67 commaro,go to the nfl, and build my own house.

  • @awaugh24 shut up you twat

  • there s no such thing as stress free bricklaying, unless ya ve won the lotto or something.any chance of a start?

  • You need to go lay brick with rjm 1964 he runs a pretty TIGHT job!! you guys should get along just fine!!!! And yes Stress free brick laying is fun!!! you should try it sometime

  • greetings from the emerald isle whats the craic with work in the states?work here in ireland is thin on the ground might have to look abroad if something steady doesnt come up soon whats the story with that mate of yours?

  • Hey John, work is thin here also, he was just having a good time laying brick-not a high stress job. Your right- you have to pick em up and put down to make any real money! Work in the states is not great!! Better off staying put!!

  • all right man cheers for the heads up keep it stress free!!!!

  • Stop tapping and turn the music off. ;)

  • we will tap all we want, and NO the music does not go OFF!!! What are you laying brick in a prison or what!!! IN america we can do it however we want!!!!

  • sorry I meant "right" to "left".. most two men bricklayer t eams with a lefty, always have the lefty on the right starting, and the right hander on the left. Hope this helps.

  • A good bricklayer can go forward or backward and produce just the same. Everyone commenting on speed he's just taking his time and working at his pace. His title doesn't say fastest bricklayer in the world. If you can do as perfect as you say, post your vid so we can pick apart your moves!

  • don't have to be an ass about it.. I'm not a bricklayer, just my dad, uncle, great uncle, grandfater and 3 first cousins were.. I reckon we don't nothing

  • well, you're the one who sounds like the ass. Giving pointers to a bricklayer when you don't lay brick. So what you have a bunch of bricky's in the family, join the club.

  • I laid brick for 12 years, just do it for a living.. I'm a casino exec now.. don't worry, I know my way around the brick yard.

  • Right on Jrm, he isnt the fastest , nor the most accurate, and he doesnt make alot of money, but HE is a happy brick layer!!! and enjoys what he does. Oh you should see him lay block!!! These other guys who comment, are just talking smack!! Hell they probebly cant lay brick anyway!!

  • @chompeepe LOL! I had a guy working for me once who said the same thing. We were laying up field stone on an assisted living facility and he was doing a horrible job, and slow. He didnt even cover his wages for the day, and he says to me after I gave him a hard time, 'you should see me on 8" block" lol! Block pretty much lay themselves was my reply.

  • Another thing, you probably learned this way, but you'd be faster also (with practive) if you went left to right on the course; that keeps your trowel to the wall side and your right hand to the brick stacks. They you doing it appears cross-handed to me.

  • A left handed brick layer is rare My grandfather was one, and claimed that a One Armed bricklayer built Etowah, Tn, reason being all the brick buildings are on just one side of the street there.

Agree with the trowel tapping technique: only good for blocks, just slows you down while laying brick; if you're mortar spread is right, the brick will push down by hand to the alignment almost every time; work on not using the tap as much as possible to pick your speed up.

  • mad as well as left handed.

  • You Shouldent tap that low. no point just make the bed right and the brick should all ready be to the line. Then all you neeed to do is apply some pressure if it isnt.

  • i was enjoying watching that

  • thats it Quality should be always on first place .well done enjoy ur work

    regards from Poland

  • Comment removed

  • 3 bricks in 1 minute is poor hope you werent on price

  • NOPE!!! not on price, making great money taking our time!!!! Enjoying our work! Quality first, speed last!!! Why be in a hurry when you have no place else to go!! right

  • true. i thought it was good nonetheless

  • 3 brick a minute is 1400 brick in 8 hours.

  • why dident you check the level of the bricks or were u sure they wer level?

  • We are using a string line. keeps the course straight and level, also plumb.

  • you need a spirit level to do proper bricklaying

  • Looks great, I tried it once it was a disaster. Thanks, looks like all I need in practice

  • if that was an attempt at sarcasem it was shite.

  • i think your in the wrong trade if your doing that.you should never have time to get bord

  • I am right handed and have always held the trowel in my right hand but some times I like to switch it up to break the bordom.

  • ding ding back to your corners lol

  • LOL.i throw in the towel.

  • i think you misunderstood.seen them all meaning bone my bone headed comments.

  • no worries.thats all that really matters.

  • ok maybe not all lefties.some of them will pass you a buttered brick now and again after they´ve lit a ciggie.yes the comment was made half tounge in cheek but thanks for the career advice anyway.

  • Still, your right!!! I didnt mean to be so course about that comment. Its just that my friend has been laying brick for a long time, and most seem to just slam him!! He really does good work!!!

    thanks

  • i hate working with left handed brickies, you bump arses with them at the middle of the run, then they always fuck off back to their corner leaving you to lay the rest.

  • Hey still, it actually works in favor of a right hander when we work together. My partner doesnt fuck off you should consider finding other help or co workers. Some one who gives a shit about good work and getting the job done

    Take care

  • just change corners, lay forward to the middle and backwards to your corner, im a lefty and nobody goes near my arse

  • try laying right handed and you might get lucky.

  • This was the most bone-headed comment I've ever read on you tube. Thanks for the laugh.

  • you obviously haven´t seen them all.always happy to oblige.

  • So all right handed bricklayers are good? Your point, or lack of one sucks.

  • take a chill pill cam man.i´m just taking the piss.i was l laying bricks before you grew you first pube,a serious comment on this vid was impossible to write.

  • Lol, run your big fat mouth till someone proves you an idiot. Then back pedal out of it. Doesn't matter how long you do something, it's what you learn in that time. to bad you haven't learned much going by your comments.

  • taking the piss :P thats an aussie expression, you coulda picked me up on your way to samos :P

  • sorry luv,i´m a pom.we all have are crosses bear but try not to hold it against me.though lived down under for a year.

  • hey guys im just wondering if i should join the army or be a brick layer and is brick laying a good job and does it pay good money ? plz anser !

  • Laying brick is a good job with good pay...if you can find a job. You just have to be able to handle extreme cold and extreme hot, and all that comes with that. My company hasn't had a job in like 2 months. It's tought right now

  • soo wat if he was goin slow least his wall wont look shit nice work any way

  • Thanks Adam! this is my friend, and he has been doing brick for some time. He was just taking his time and trying to do a nice job, instead of speed. He made good wages doing this, but does enjoy it.

    Thanks

  • hope your gettin paid by the hour cause you aint making brick count why would you spread and lay backwards

  • hahhaha,im a foreman m8,trying to show off to the caera:)nice try

  • id sack him lol

  • 30 years old? A little young to have a comment on a guy who has layed brick for 30 fucking years!!! YOU THINK!

  • well I've been laying brick for 35 years and just want to say, don't quit your day job!

  • I've been a mason for 15yrs now in Canada and I'll say your work looks pretty good but your technique is way off. Doesn't matter though, the main thing is the end result, at it looks good. Keep up the workmanship. That's the only thing that matters. Cheers!

  • you is right bruv

  • im a brit and whatever i do for any customer i do the best i can because it not only makes me feelgood the look on the customers face that they are happy with what you have built is rewarding and whatdo you know their friends want a large extension roll on

  • Thank you for the positive comments. Firefighter knows whats important. It appears that you got what counts have a good one.

  • Where is this? I see the shirt, so I'm assuming GA? Good bricklaying. Is that a 10" London you're using?

  • He lived in Ga for 2 years, however he is from California, thanks for the comment, I am a former firefighter, had the privelige to tour your academy back in 06 THanks

  • Ha your welcome. I've been in HS Masonry for two years now. Taking Masonry 3 next year. I just started work for a masonry company. Also, a comment directed the hater who said he was slow....Quality matters over qauntity any day. It doesn't matter if it's laid fast if it looks like shit. So whoever this is laying, you keep doin' the way you've been doing it the last 30 years....the RIGHT way. Don't listen to him.

  • Hey got a question...how old are you? You said you're a former firefighter....how long? You sounded pretty young lol I'm only 18 lol

  • Hey firefighter, I started when I was 18 years old with Ventura County Fire Department, I am now an old guy 54. Sorry I may sound young but Im young at heart.

    Have a good one

  • Oh lol. Well just keep thinking young iight :D.....where is this btw? I never found that part out lol

  • He should've started from the other side being left handed and hes pretty slow. what he also should've done is used the access mud to butter his bricks to lay faster

  • You should learn to spell, before you start commenting on how slow some one wants to lay brick, fast doesnt mean a better job!!! besides this guy has picked them up an put them down for over 30 years.

  • I'm left handed and prefer to work backwards as well. A good mason isn't affected by which way he works. Nice vid, I love jobs like these..

  • where did you learn to lay not in texas brasoz mansonry in the house

  • he should of started from thee other side being a left hander.. thats just my 2c. Nice work mate

  • Work looked good. A lower material scaffold could help. My brothers a lefty and he tends to like to lay the other direction. What ever works for you is cool at least you speak english!

  • Everyone thinks their way is best. Especially Brits!

  • Im a mason and i will say thats good clean work, they are on bond, well done buddy enjoyed your video thanks!!

  • if your gonna butter the brick on that end you might as well come from the other end of the wall

  • Great song to lay bricks to! Brad is great anytime though. haha. :)

  • this guy needs to learn what side of the brick to stand on

  • hes left handed though
