  • I Love how he says the DOW dipped 600 points to get a laugh... we in the modern age have seen it happen recently... not quite as funny >_<

  • he still feels alive to me

  • Carlin was a genius when it comes to words and humor. Did you all know that the sign of intelligence is having a sense of humor? Maybe it is not Carlin's humor but your lack of, that makes it uneasy for you. Anotherwords, maybe you just aren't bright enough to know humor even if it fell upon you.

  • Dapper Dan?

  • to all the nay sayers... your loss! Know it certainly does not compare to all the nudity of to day. Something just funny is not enough anymore? SAD

  • "Id like to personally apologize for the sudden heavy rains to the FORMER residents of Rogers, Illinois....caught them cats nappin' man!"

  • As this "newscast" will a test, you CAN be funny WITHOUT swearing!

  • Biff Burns, of course, was later replaced by Biff Barf in the early 70's.

    BMP

  • EVERY CULTURE HAS IT OWN HUMOUR..AND ITS DIFFERENT

  • hormone-whore moan. lol.

  • We had this album when I was a kid! I still have it..I"m almost 50 and can still recite almost the whole thing; I still thing Carlin was funniest when he wasn't so angry and "blue." Just my humble opinion from someone who has heard it all....

  • @vickilaw I found this album ("Take-Offs and Put-Ons") in a neighborhood record store back in the early seventies when I was 15 and bought it for a steal. I played it incessantly and loved that it made my mom laugh every bit as hard as I did. ("Despite the several shooting incidents, it was considered an ideal marriage...") And I agree with you--he was much funnier before he became so bitter. But that's life, I guess; Carllin suffered some major setbacks later in his personal life.

  • he does look alot like russell crowe

  • Hardly seems like the same cynical sardonic old guy. His humor gained substance as he got older.

  • his comedy got better with his age. but i do enjoy this (mainly for the Al Sleet bit)

  • "1-2-3-4-5-Mnaaaaah 8-)P)

  • His picture looks alittle like Ernest T Bass from the Andy Griffith Show all cleaned up

  • i just got the record that this is on. its called "Take off's and Put on's"

  • Comment removed

  • and dont forget kids, if you play a sport, go ahead. LOL

  • Oh man, I had forgotten about Al Sleet's "inside every silver lining there's a dark cloud". And I even used that as my motto for the personal information with my senior picture in the high school yearbook.

  • George's first LP, "Take Offs & Put Ons" someow entered our home around '69, when I and my brothers were in late grade school; we played the heck out of it, howling continuously even though we couldn't have understood all that much of it. It carved itself into our minds though, and now forty years later the sound is still familiar & the content still spices up our banter. I know "AM & FM" made it to CD, but I don't think his debut ever did?

  • LOL even back in 67 people were ripping on the cubs

  • George Carlin doing the Daily Show before the Daily Show. He seriously has a news broadcaster's voice -- I'm surprised he didn't try that.

  • i know he did some work on the radio.

  • @DudeinGA He was a disc jockey while he was in the USAF and after he was discharged. Carlin and Jack Burns formed a comedy team and went hollywood to pursue stand-up. They split up and shortly after that Carlin changed his act to the more familiar act of his HBO special and his albums.

  • OMG hes old! i mean... i knew he was old... but dang. w/e hes still funny :D

  • well...i guess he WAS old...he's not anymore...that's the problem with the alternative to getting old...

  • Ummm, what do you mean "OMG he's old??" What prompted that?

He was timeless, a genius, and is sorely missed.

  • ooh calm dowwn. i ♥ george carlin i hav since i was like 9. but he looks like 20 when this pic was taken and its in black and whitee soo idk. maybe im just clueless? lol

btw i like ur sn. john lennon ♥

  • Actually, he died.

  • yes i am aware of that...

ok he WAS funny. there. :P

  • george is the fuckin man!

  • LMAO wallstreet took a lil dip of 6 hundred points XDDD

  • lol, he looks like an old time Crooner in that picture.

    Sinatra, Astaire, Crosby, Carlin

    xD

  • Does anyone know where the script to this is? Can we find it online? I swear there was a motion version of this.

  • Yes, 'Fan', George performed this "local news" parody on several variety shows during that period- you might want to see a 1966 black & white excerpt from "THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON", where Carlin's performing part of this {see "Johnny Carson Show #15"}.

  • it was 4:20, time for the 6 o'clock news.

  • It was 2:20, not 4:20.

  • uhhh i think you mean 2:20

  • Is there actual video of George doing this particular routine? I would love to see how George did his facial expressions for this routine.

  • Pansy is a flower.

  • Man I was so bummed when i heard George Carlin died. He was so fucking hilarious. One of the best comedians ever IMHO.

  • Seriously, people, can you remember a regular fucking clock?? Little hand is for the hours, big hand is for the minutes. Now put it together.

  • George Carlin maintained that "bum beneath

the bridge" quality that all infrequent bathers

    can identify with.

  • lol no one can add. Big hand on the 4 and little hand on the 2.

    Time would be 2:20

  • This is George Carlin. He is a comedian. Get it through your head. It's suppose to make you laugh.

  • I was talking about the previous people who tried to say what the real time would be if the little hand was on the 2 and big hand on 4.

They thought it was 4:10, so i was correcting them. Get it through your head...

  • Does that mean 6:00 is the new 4:20 or that 4+2 equals the answer to the universe? I have my towel do you?

Now suppose the big hand was on my right wrist and the small hand was on my left would the third hand be used for... uhm nevermind.

George, I sure do miss your humor. :(

  • Do you have the book with the big words DON'T PANIC? :) I didn't even catch the 4+2 implication (which I'm sure he wasn't using hehe)..

    I miss him too bud!

  • I have my towel but 42 is the answer, not 4+2 haha

  • 6.................?

  • lolll big hand on the 4, little hand on the 2... that's 2:20 guys. the joke he's making is just adding the numbers that the hands are pointing to

  • You're right, it is 4:10. (Idiot cant add over here)

  • Wouldnt the time be 4:20? Big hand on the 4? Little on the 2?

  • thats the joke, 4+2=.......

  • glad someone got it

  • that would be 4:10

  • you guys can't be serious... the time would be 2:20

  • "Take-Offs..." was on RCA's budget label Camden...before the Little David days. On that disc, he talked about a radio station in Walla Walla, Washington...I don't believe he ever worked there--maybe he just thought Walla Walla was a funny name for a town. He says he saw Duran Duran, Talk Talk and Tirez Tirez there not long after they played New York New York and it was sponsored by Johnson & Johnson..

  • I don't get the Big hand on the 4 and the little hand on the 2, and it's time for the six a clock report joke??? I know he means that it is 2:20 and it's a six a clock report. but to me it isn't really a joke

  • The joke about having a 6-o'clock report at 2:20 was the kind of tame, nonesensical humour they enjoyed back in the 60's... it's interesting to see how the standards of joke telling have changed :)

  • @SpinnerMC and 4+2=6? lol i love carlin :)

  • @gvgvjkc Yes, your math is correct.

    ...

  • @SpinnerMC dick...lol

  • @SpinnerMC so why is ¶•#$*^$#@**!!! FUNNIER THAN THE 6 O'CLOCK JOKE?

  • @framistroid Good question. Stating 'one joke is funnier than another' is dependent on the listeners' preference of material. Some people find nonsensical humour to be funnier than expletive-laden outbursts.

  • @SpinnerMC another good example is British humor compared to American humor. quite a bit of difference there! ;) just watch Monty Python.

  • Maybe you have to be warmed up before something like this is funny to you? I had this album and always thought this entire routine was hillarious!

  • No i did too, i just didn't get the first joke, but the rest was sick!!! XD

  • @teothedemon You Suck! And you have a very narrow sense of humor.

  • Hippie dippy weatherman ha ha!

  • This was the FIRST Carlin album I had! HILARIOUS!!!

  • I don't remember the Title... I loaned it to "friend" and never got it back...

  • It's from the album "Take Off's and Put On's" :D

  • whats the squeeze milkshakes?

  • lol even guys are jealous

  • shit, he used to look like a film star

  • It sucks that I never got to be in one of his shows. Now it's one more to be inducted into the list of brilliant performers that I'll never get to see...

  • Never realized how good he looked when he was younger. Miss you George, and fuck you for dying..pric.

  • One of his BEST! HE ALWAYS LOOKs GOOD - ALWAYS WILL BE so FUNNY -and KUTE.

  • He was acthully a good looking guy back in the 60's.

    R.I.P. Georgie

  • look how cute he was

  • Now he is the Past, but we'll carry him into the future. He really was a funny fucker and i love his jokes. Allways remember, George Carlin. Peace.

  • I loved that routine when I first heard it over 40 years ago. It is still funny.

  • Funny all these people writing "god bless", see you in Valhalla. I guess they didn't get it, huh?

  • Yep. "You're gonna go where you think you're gonna go."

So long, George. Nice knowing you.

  • So that's where good folks go in the afterlife - Westchester County, NY.

As The Village Voice said, rest in peace George - and thanks for disturbing it.

  • apparently u didnt know george enough, if george was right, hes stuck on top of a roof somewhere.

  • LOL!

  • hahaha frisbeetarianism

  • lol ...

  • One of the great ones. See you in Valhalla.

  • Dark is right - I can't believe he's gone! I just watched "Al Sleet" and OMG, they really do not make them like that any more!

RIP George! You brightened our lives!

  • "Tonight's Forecast.....Dark"

R.I.P George.... there will never be another one.

  • My deepest condolences for this man. RIP and God Bless George Carlin. He will always be the Hippy Dippy Weatherman in my heart ^_^

  • Thank you so much...I was hoping some of these old routines would be up. It's great to hear this again. Love the hippie dippie weatherman...

I think the best way to honor him is to challenge the establishment.

  • Holy hell. I'm shocked! He passed away today. RIP George. You're a god among other comedians.

  • Is it from his "Take Offs & Put Ons"?

  • It is indeed! :D
