Try MAGIX Video Edit Deluxe series: it's not comparable to professional softwares, buy it allows you to decently edit your movies, is quite easy to use, and you can legally purchase it for a cheap price (approx 60 Euros, do the math for the price in $).

Final Cut is the best video program out there to now, but the program is a Professional video program and it cost up to $979.00. I have Final Cut myself tho. But i also have MediaEdit 3, not very good video program but works.

Outside of WMM, I've only use Sony Vegas. It's an "easy-to-learn" software and the tools are more advanced.

Pinnacle studio is pretty good, but yes unless you have a powerful computer its performance is poor. I have heard rave reviews with corel video studio pro x2, which i am planing of getting. Cyberlink powerdirector is fantastic also. Sony vegas is a great software if you want to really go deep into video editing. And adobe premiere is pretty good.

Try Pinnacle Studio... Or Sony Vegas, both need fairly decent computers... I'd recommend having these with a computer with 1gb of ram or above... You can buy these or download them for free in the right places ;P
