I believe you have your characters mixed up.

That wasn't Terra-nort, that was Young Master Xehanort)There's a difference in length of the hair, and voice actor, if I'm not mistaken.). That, and Ventus is in the Room of Sleep(body wise), and his heart is sleeping inside Sora's. Either way, he's asleep, and that is the world of sleep.

What I never got was, how did Ven see Vanitas coming? Maybe I'm slow when I'm watching or something, but in Ven's POV, he calls out to Aqua before we see Vanity falling.

Ven is stuck on the ground due to xehanort freezing him then throwing him off a mountain, but gets caught by aqua, aqua drives off Braig who came to by time for Xehanort, fight over, she checks on ven looking DOWN at him, and ven is looking UP at her, then on cue Vanitas pulls a "leeroy Jenkins" and it works

and that's how it happened :P

*Sighs* They sound alike because the darkness is controlling both of them. The darkness is basically a dark evil soul that finds the strongest bodies to do it's evil work. A soul has to have had a body once. That body the soul used to belong to had a laugh which sounds like their's(Riku's, Vanitas's, etc.).... Since the soul chose their bodies they act exactly as the soul commands it to.... Why am I ranting about this? Because I feel like it. :)

Um, well not really. Vanitas is not being controlled, he's the extracted Darkness from Ventus' heart. In no way is he being posessed like Riku and Terra were.(The most control over him is his master, Xehanort.) Riku, however, was controlled.

The reason they sound the same in the jp version is because that's just how Japanese people maniacally laugh. And I'm being serious. ^_^

In fact, the first time he defeats Ventus, he tries to kill him and says something like: "Even tough this goes against MX´s plans, I don´t give a shit, You´re a waste of space, time to die", so he really doesn´t give a shit about anything but making other people suffer.
