Not every chechen wanted independence anyway. Just look at Kadyrov and the rest. Also most of chechen intellegentsia escaped Groznuy to Moscow after Dudaev came to power.
And most of Hungarians did not support the revolt of 1956, it was just a bunch of agents in capital supported by the west.

First of all, there was no solid chechen "side". There were different war lords who fought each other as much as they fought Russians.
In Hungary revolt was only supported in Budapest. Of course, they were violent but that only made things worse.
