  • I had a sheltie named Millie, and she was so beautiful, like a supermodel of shelties. One time a lady from the sheltie rescue pulled her car over just to say Millie was the most beautiful dog she had ever seen. She died of heart disease about a month ago but I will never forget her, she was only 10 years old, and she always was soo funny and playful, brightening my day every time I saw her. perfect dog. Could never be replaced. :( *crying as I write this*

  • @SubstanceD91 I'm so sorry you lost your little girl Millie. It sounds like she had a wonderful loving home for a long time. If you're needing support over her loss, I found dot petloss dot com to be really helpful. They even have a chat room so you can chat with others who have lost pets too.

  • I had a sheltie. She was a sweetheart, but she was as dumb as a rock. xP

  • @xxCorianderxx

Weird, the breed as a whole is renowned for their intelligence, and every sheltie I've had has been incredibly smart.

  • im getting a new dog and i think ive found one!!! XD

  • @superwolflover99 good choice, i love mine.

  • WE ARE NOW WORKING ON OUR 4TH SHELTIE IN 30 YEARS-THEY ARE AWESOME DOGS-THE SMARTEST BREED OF DOG THERE IS,,,,,,,,

  • I've known a sheltie and she was cute and so sweet. She didn't have an agressive bone in her body, unless she was agressively trying to herd you around the house with her body. She didn't get as much excercise as she should have. Most people don't exercise their dogs often enough and they end up developing weird quirks.

  • got three right now...

yes they must be telepathic or speak all human languages because they seem to always know what you want!

  • I miss my sheltie :( She was my little Shelby the Sheltie haha.

  • i have one :)

  • My family had a Sheltie for 17 years, he was an amazing dog. A little bigger than the breed, but he is the reason I am getting one of my own.

  • Amazing dogs, i grew up with Border Collies, and i knew that i couldn't keep one in an apartment. But then i started researching the Sheltie breed. And it turns out there compact enough to be in an apartment, but with the same amount of energy. They're GREAT, i have a 2 year old now and she's just as smart as a border collie but with the look of a delicate little lap dog. She's amazing, although she's quite a bit smaller than these little beauties.

  • Amazing dogs :) One day i want one for myself <3

  • shelties for ever!

  • I grew up with one of these :) he was 2 months old when I was born and died when we both were 12 we grew up together

    Amazing dog!

  • i love these dogs i have a 1 yr old one my second one there amaziing beutifull and smart

  • when my mom's sheltie Butch was a puppy he would nip at my ankles like he was trying to herd me!! so cute ^_^

  • I have a blind and deaf 14 year old sheltie. I'm surprised how smart she is and she is a great watchdog. She is the first to know when the pizza man is here too, lol. She will bark nonstop and go investigate if the person is safe or not! For such an old dog she is so gorgeous!

  • soooooo bad i cant have one i can have a pug a shiba inu or even NO DOG;(

  • Shelties are great dogs, only dog I'd ever own. Amazingly smart.

  • I my dad's friend had a Shettie. I remember really bonding with that dog even though I only met her a handful of times. Shetties are sweeties, as I remember.

  • i have a sheltie very trainble

  • I used to have a Sheltie but my neighbor murdered it

  • @123kawaiigirl123 yeah...

  • @WolfsbaneRevolution

how... why... (X__X) is that possible???

  • @123kawaiigirl123 yeah I went to the police but they said it was an NHI and they told me to leave

  • @WolfsbaneRevolution thats horrible....

  • @pupgirl60 yeah...

  • I have a sheltie named Duke and he is the best! And I love him he is now a 3 year old

  • I have a 10 year old sheltie "Ralph". He is the BEST dog. I always say his middle name is "pleaser". His favorite food is chicken. We have to spell it!! He is not fond of our two kitties but he tolerates them. We love him dearly. We highly recommend shelties.

  • lassY!

  • im gettin a sheltie :] may b 2 if my parents agree xD

  • I can't believe they're not miniature collies! I knew they weren't miniature collies but I can see why many people think so.

  • I absolutely love Shelties! I had 2 Sheltie Mixes recently. I plan on owning Shelties in the future!

  • shelties are easily my favourite breed. ive had two in my life, and oh do i miss them. ive never had a dog bring such happiness and vitality to my life... talking to them is almost like talking to a person, they seem to understand everything. sadly mickey died of kidney failure, and lizzie, who had a heart murmur, died from a heart attack. my dad brought up the idea of us getting another one, even though i have two other dogs... i can only hope! :)

  • I just moved into my own apartment! I'm getting a sheltie in about a year or two from now! Can't Wait!

  • Aww, reminds me of we Sheltie I had, first pet I was ever expose to, we got him a year before I was born, and he slept under my Bassinet when I was a baby. He lived to be 16 and a half, so I had the privilege of spending 15 years of my life with him in the family. great little dog, Because of my Kasey I will always have respect for the Sheltie ^^

  • Our first Sheltie, Clancy, lived to be about 12 and we put him down when I was 19. He was gorgeous, silly, and a sweetheart. They are my favorite breed and I hope I can get one for myself soon.

  • I am getting a sheltie, next month. By the way, IT'S THE DISNEY CHANNEL VOICE GUY! Sorry, had to say that! Shelties are such amazing dogs. I really do love the breed. They are so friendly, and loyal. :)

  • Got one yesterday :D

  • LUCKY!!!

  • I have one but would love two more....

  • @zig3 i know they are damn clever & playful!! gotta love em!

  • @zig3 So smart you have to spell certain words they've learned so they don't always know what you're talkin about!

  • A Sheltie is from the Collie family, Therefore; It is part Collie, Face it. A Sheltie will be Sable and White, Blue Merle, Or even Tri-Colored. Those are the true colors of a Shetland Sheepdog. If you're wondering about it being a watchdog? Oh Yes indeed. They are excellent and loyal family pets, And will not hesitate to herd the neighbors if need be.

  • (this guy sound like da guy on disney who say like "dont go away " ) I have a shetland sheep dog, her name is misty. She doesnt show or herd, but she is just my lovey pet.

  • Aw man...we had a sable sheltie who passed several years ago from a brown recluse spider bite... I'm looking at getting a dog again and it's a toss up between Shelties, Border Collies, or Aussies o.O

Our sheltie had a huge problem with her legs though - we couldn't afford the surgeries to repair her knees though so we had to carry her up the stairs and around the house sometimes :-/ Poor girl...

  • my sheltie is usually timid around strangers, but she's really nice to us and is very protective, one time a UPS deliveryman came to our door and rang the doorbell and she started barking and then the guy ran away! my other sheltie gaurded my cousin when my grandma's neighbor pitbull and my sheltie was growling at it. thery're amazing dogs!

  • I have three Shelties. Joey, Roddy and Violet. My absolute favorite breed.

  • I have a shetland sheepdog and he is very loving and over protective(good). He gets very jealous of other dogs if you pay more attention to them then to him at a time, because he wants to be the alpha male. But he is a great dog!! and he currently has a disease called hypothyrodism which makes him overwieght although he gets excerize but he's still hanging in , At age 9. He is a wonderful companion but is better with older kids.

  • Would you consider Shetland sheepdog's good guard dogs for families with small children? You seem pretty experienced with having one. A man just broke into my home a few months ago and my whole family has been so paranoid and I am always having my neighbor's dog over at my home.

  • Shetland Sheepdogs are better with older children but they are good guard dogs and will grow to be comfortable with younger children

  • I had a friend once who had a dog that was half sheltie and half alaskan malamute -- super gorgeous dog, I'd love to have one of my own. :D

  • Breed All About It - Siberian Husky

  • my two girls died within two days of each other recently... very very very very sad

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I lost Divot a month ago and I couldn't even imagine if I had lost both at the same time. Unbearable.

  • because it is

  • My sheltie is very timid. Just like what

ygand0711 had said. He jumps at the sound of a hand clap and somehow he don't understand a single thing. Why uh?

  • Maybe you got a bad breed, Or maybe you are doing everything wrong.

  • My sheltie is a sweet girl, but she does have two downsides. The first is she is very skiddish and shy, jumps at the sound of a hand clap. Second, she barks at nearly everything, from doorbells on tv to welcoming me home every single day, and it takes a while to quiet her down! However, these dogs are truly a great breed, just watch for their herding instincts! My girl is also a bit older and is suffering from arthritis, a common ailment of the breed.

  • i have a sable sheltie. his name is Tipper cuz the white tip at the end of his tale. but he is a little bigger than ur average sheltie. he is 17 inches to the withers and whieghs 30 lbs. and he is perfectly healthy and not overwhight. he is just a big sheltie. we didnt even have to train him how to herd ducks! we just bought 4 duckling and we put them in the yard and tipper's instincts kicked in, he started herding them! and we had to put a leash on him and tie him up to make him stop! great dog

  • continuing...

tanner is skiddish or males but hes fixed so there should be less tension...WRONG! he runs away from all men and some women unless they have a dog with them.

he was very socialazed when he was a puppy so thats not the issue! all in all iluv him to death and e is m lil boy!

  • alright i hav to put this ONE comment in different sections because it wont all fit my sheltie tanner is soooo diff from this stuff!!!! hes soo stuborn and doesnt listen to anyone at all and my dad is not the most fun person to be around(temper and anger issues..) but when he yells for tanner to stop chasing a person WALKING or cars SPEEDING he stops and comes right back...

  • Great series! I did a tv series that included profiles but also Vet Report, and many human interest stories, people and their dogs.

  • Nice vid. Somebody with this kind of knowledge needs to work on the wikipedia site for shetland sheepdogs. I don't like some of the information currently posted there. It's simply innacurate. My sheltie had hearding instinct from the start, and this is something that must be acknowledged on wikipedia.

  • My seltie used to herd e ad my sister when we were little

  • Shelties can still work, and they were actually more commonly used for herding Shetland sheeps, shetland cows, and keeping all the little creatures like rabbits squirrels and birds away from the farmers garden, hence the reason they are so small.

  • Border collies are the black and white ones.

Shelties are said to be a smaller version of the rough collies NOT border collies. Border collies and rough collies are different. Rough collies are the Lassie dogs.

  • Those dogs are amazing<3

    I recommend them to beginners

  • Arguing over coat colors is silly without establishing WHICH standard you're arguing about. There are several. I don't doubt British breed standards differ from AKC. Here in the States I've never seen a Sheltie that doesn't look like "Lassie." That's what Americans want, so that's what the breeders (and the AKC) deliver. They aren't working dogs here, either. They're household pets. They're too small to work wide-open spaces over here. Our herd dogs are long-legged.

  • WTF is with these retarded mandatory ads before the video? screw it I'm not gonna watch it then

  • ? i dont get them probably for my country i dont see adds

  • @ntcrwler easy fix. adblock plus! BEST! PLUGIN! EVER!

  • The person below my comment is wrong. A sheltie does not have to be black, white, and grey. They can be many colors. Mine is tri colored, and it is pure. They can also have blue eyes, but mostly the ones with blue eyes are deaf. They can also look like a smaller version of Lassie, but when they do be ready to tell everyone, no it's not Lassie. It's a sheltie.

  • I dispute your comments regarding the coat colours of a sheltie. I am from Shetland, and my Aunt breeds them as pedigree. Sheltie's were cross-bred with Border Collies at the beginning of the 19th century for marketing reasons.... in other words, have the stature of a Sheltie, but the looks of a Border Collie. Hence the belief Shelties are a smaller version of a Border Collie.......which is factually incorrect.

  • A true Sheltie is NOT a smaller version of the border collie. A Sheltie's coat colours are black, white and grey, with spotted markings on its shoulders. So, if you get a Sheltie that is a smaller version of Lassie, it is NOT a true pure bred Sheltie

  • Lassie is just a name from a very famous movie, It's actually called a Collie.

  • It's not a smaller version of anything. The breed originates from being bred to collies, AND border collies and many other breeds. Sheltie's are actually most commonly Sable, even in the Shetland Islands (where they originated) they do not have to be Blue merle as you've said. They can but don't have to be. Many Americans breed shelties all wrong these days, with too much coat and too big of a stop on their muzzles, so many American shelties dont look like a true sheltie, but they are pure bred.

  • I agree, I can't stand the snipey muzzles on most average shelties... Hard to find ones with a proper sheltie head.

  • I have a Sheltie, I got her when I was 3 and I love her sooooooooooo much!

  • my cousins were at my house and thare baby her nam is rose was trying to leve the room and my sheltie jin wouldent let her leve the room we were in it was very funny

  • lassie was a collie

  • its lasse

  • My sheltie is 7 years old, and my little sister (6 y) can do whatever she wants to do with him. I'm sure these dogs are everything a little kid needs to have fun, and not to forget, a good friend. :D <3

  • I had a sheltie and when me and my family where outside he would herd all of us together and not let us leave

  • haha cool :P

  • @MetallicaisMetal LOL I laughed.

  • yep, shelties bark - alot! and at just about anything! mine liked to herd and nip at my vacuum cleaner.

  • they do bark alot, we nicknamed my grandparents sheltie the yeppie yappie shelter. and when we play with him he always herds my siblings and i back in the middle lmao XD

  • Shelties bark, it is part of their character. Want a quiet dog - get a collie they pace but don't bark much. Nothing is like a sheltie. Mine have lived up to 17 years old and this at a fairly healthy state of mind. maybe acts older a bit slower but no major illness.

  • i had a sheltie :)

she got put down at 7 years old though :'(

the vets couldn't figure out what was wrong with her...

  • They're great dogs for children. They even sometimes try to herd them (or any other person really). When I was very small, my sheltie used to never let me out of her sight.

  • Some owners swear that these dogs are of human intelligence.

  • They have a heart of gold.

  • @ultimateearner Don't quote me on it, but I believe it's been quantified in some breeds that their intelligence is comparable to a child in grade three.

  • @ultimateearner i just got a sheltie mix puppy and she already knows sit down paw and spin

    shes a genius

  • umm, if a stranger is breaking into my house, would the dog bark?

  • it would bark at almost any stranger coming into the house, invited or not. of course thats goes for my two shelties but everydog is different i guess but whenever we have company we have to keep the dogs in a seperate room. they're not violent just loud

  • my sheltie barks at everyone that enters - unless they are children - but she will stop after about 10 seconds if she sees that I am ok with the guest.

  • Trust me... it'd bark...

  • so cute i might get onee

  • Dont get one just because theyre cute. :)

  • of course not! I have read on them and they are perfect dogs for us.

  • I have a 11 year old male sable/white whos 12lbs, a 7 year old blue merle 26lbs, and a 10 month old tri-color, 10lbs.

I love my shelties, definitely my soft spot! Cant beat the breed!

  • Wow yours are so small. I have a 8 year old male sable/black who is 42lbs. Haven't found any sheltie his size yet

  • geez thats tiny!?

  • how tall is he?

  • BAM. my 5 yr, 2 month old male shetland sheepdog, dixon, is 43 lbs. not lying but you have met your match :D

  • hold your tounge and say shetland

  • I have a sheltie named Bernie he is 8! I love him to death he barks sooo much though!

  • i have one called ollie

  • i have 1 called nelly n shes with me rite now!! wagging her tail

  • Wery beautiful dogs. And they need a lot of training and exersise!

  • Shetland Sheepdog are mini collie's also known shelties. They are highly intelligent and active and are amazing herding dogs! They are long, thick coated dogs which need regular grooming. They are very smart dogs but don't respond well to harsh treatment. But they will surely love their owners and love to please their human partner!

  • so they are great dogs afterall right ?

  • yes! they are wonderful dogs!! and do well in apt's!

  • i got roxie a month ago

she is now 4 months old and she is a sheltie mixed with a smooth collie (maybe more but i dont think so)

  • awsome!

  • When I got married, had my son, decided he was old enough for us to have a puppy. I did some research on breeds I liked the looks of and found the Sheltie. So we found some locally who were born in late January and we're picking up our girl - Willow - next Wednesday!

  • I was brought up with shelties, i now have my own place and we decided to get a sheltie as i just couldnt imagine having any other breed. so we got a boy who's sable.. and about 4 months later we got a girl, who's tri! maybe not the best decision cos with them both being puppys they were a bit out of control together! But we love them both so much, an amazing and gorgeous breed, i recommend them to anyone (good with kids too, i have a 3 year old)

  • my sheltie died today they put him under to clean his teeth and he went into cardiac arrest he will always be in my heart. I loved him. he was the best dog in the world!

  • I am very sorry for your loss. Try to remember all the good times you had with him and think how fortunate you were to find each other in this world. I am sure your special Sheltie is in a peaceful place.

  • I know how you feel and Im so sorry for you! I lost my sheltie 3 years ago, he was 13 yrs. and had cancer~vet. told me he had a 'cure' & could help him. He died when he was under. I regret that I didnt have him put to sleep, then I could have held him in my arms and been with him to the end. We really loved each other. I can tell you time helps ease the pain. Best wishes to you.

  • I love my little Sheltie...best dog I've ever owned! Just a little sweetheart who loves to guard the home when we're away. Loves to take walks. And one of the sweetest "dog smiles" you'll ever see. Pretty face, beautiful coat, love that Sheltie!

  • my Sheltie ,Oliver is the best dog ever i love shelties!!!!!!!!!! Oliver is very big for a Sheltie!1 but he is not a collie

  • My sheltie died 2 years ago, he was 12, and I have yet to get my heart ready for another dog. This is THE smartest, fastest, most loyal dog I have ever owned. I swear this dog knew what I wanted before I opened my mouth. I have yet to get another one, because I do not want to "compare" the new with the old, as there is no comparison. I lost the best friend of my life, and still to this day, I sometimes forget he is gone. One day when I am strong enough, I will again get a sheltie.

  • omfg IM GONNA GET ONE TOMORROW !!!

  • I have an amazing sheltie named Classy. I lost her two days ago, but thankfully I got her back the next day. I didn't realize all I lost till I thought she was gone for good. If anything it made my bond stronger with her. She and shelties all over are the best dog to have, I could never have another breed. I just got a new sheltie named Skywalker. She's a handful, but she's great! Classy and Buttons (a Border Collie) get along great with her! Shetland Sheepdogs forever!!! <333

  • my parents said they'd get me a sheltie if i manage to pull off all A's this semester. i had a sheltie but she died while i was still in high school (i'm in college now). I really loved Taffy, she was a tri-color and the most beautiful dog i've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

  • shelties are the best breed ever. i have a sheltie and she is so cute <3

  • I have a 9 month old sheltie, and this vid is completely right about their behavior and the way they look.

  • i have a sheltie i love her :)

  • Very good video. I must have missed this on AP, so I'm glad it was posted here.

  • shelties are the truth!

  • simply the best kind of dog. No doubts.

  • Full collars means theres a Whole ring of white around the neck like a collar. no full collar means the white is 1/4,2/4,3/4 full of white around the neck... thats the diff..

  • what is the difference between with full collar and without full collar?? =O

  • i hav a shetland sheepdog he awsome :)

  • What an ass.

Glad you think they are ugly, dont get one...the dog would be smarter than the owner if you did...then again, in YOUR case, so would a beagle ;>)

  • That dog would eat you brains out, but judging by your spelling, you don't have any.
