Actually she was born in Hawai'i. She and four other girls were found by one of Tsunku's bandmates in 1998/99 and they formed Coconuts Musume. Only she and Mika (from MiniMoni) could speak Japanese, so Coconuts quickly disbanded, until only Mika and Ayaka. Then when Mika left MiniMoni, Ayaka was still called "Coconuts Musume Ayaka" until she left H!P.
