  • do you remember i out duked the duke of earl/

  • another rare find..PJ you are doo wop personified

  • great ,he made some crackers, think my fav is "tear for tear"

  • lol well a few seconds of this are REALLY similar to duke of earl

  • Wow, PJ, I never knew that Gene did a sequel to The Duke Of Earl. This is so very cool. I'll have it playin in the car in no time flat...

  • CRUIZIN LOW AND SLOW WITH THIS JAM...IN MY 68 IMPALA LOWRIDER...MODESTO CALIFAZ 209

  • Good to hear this one again. Great tenor backup singer. Thanks

  • An interesting note is that the name Gene Chandler is a combination of the names "Eugene Dixon" and session guitarist -and member of the Sheppards- "Kermit Chandler" from "Duke of Earl"

Earl Edwards, an original member of the Dukays, helped write and originally conceived Duke of Earl from his personal point of view, so one could say that he was the original 'Duke of Earl' In any case, Eugene Dixon became Gene Chandler

and he alone is credited on the record, the DuKays sadly faded away.

  • Talk about the impact of a song - Gene Chandler's next three releases after "Duke of Earl" were attributed to the name "The Duke of Earl" - also, there was a group called The Pearlettes who released "Duchess of Earl" -

  • Um, HOW many people does it take to write a cover?!

  • long time no hear, lol ohhhhhhhhhh love this! Back at it, thanks! Hpe you are well. You no your music

  • OMG. Thank you mucho, I have looked for this song. I think that this is his best work. Great tune, great hook. Bless you PJDooWop.

  • You're very welcome

  • Found it only under the Dukays as Niteowl.

  • That's probably the same record

  • Great little song -- never heard it before. I amlooking for one he did with the Dukays called "Nightowl" -- can't seem to find it.

  • i have a gene chandler cd and it includes this song as well as nightowl

  • I have had a day of keep returning to play "Duke Of Earl", so suddenly finding this is wonderfful. Thank You!

  • This is kool, never heard it before! My favorite by Gene Chandler is "Check Yourself".

  • Check Yourself is good. I really like Nobody Can Stop Me, God Blessed Our Love and What Now

  • a great song from this great singer duke of earl was and still is a rocknroll classic such a shame he did not have much success afder italthough i have heard many of his cut's that should of made it.cheers gazza!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Guess Vee Jay wanted to capitalize on Chandler's success with "Duke of Earl" by releasing this in 1962. Only got as high as #91 on Billboard's charts. It's quite good, actually, and probably deserved a better fate, but thanks a bunch for posting this!

  • i keep coming back to this. man i love it. What a find. Thanks so much for sharing! Love ittttttttt!

  • great song- 10-star and thanks upload

  • First time hearing this, real firme!

  • You're welcome. I thought the same thing when I bought it last month. I love Gene Chandler so I took a chance when this popped up. When I finally had a chance to put it on the turntable I was blown away by how good it is

  • Thanks PJ!

  • You're welcome

  • This is a nice litte up-beat ditty. Cool!!!!

  • Never had this one PJ. Looks like the 4 j's wrote it. Plus a name i don't recognize. Naham. I'll have to ask Junior about this one. Maybe leased to Vee Jay. A Pam Producton at the bottom.

  • Wow..... I never made that connection. Damn good eye you've got. Pam was from Chicago if I'm not mistaken. A few Dukays records were released on Pam and at least one by a group called The Starlets.

  • Thanks pj,love this sound!

  • Great track !!!,.ktf.

  • FANTASTIC

  • Thanks pj,great sound!

  • Tight oldie tune. You see alot dudes with the 30's and 40's lowriders playing this at shows.Or maybe its just my luck lol.

  • super duper!!!

  • it had what it needed to head towards the top 10..............what happened?

  • Exactly my feeling. Maybe crediting the song to The Duke Of Earl was a bit over the top. It might have gone over better if they simply credited it to Gene Chandler and The Dukays. That top tenor is singing his heart out... One of the best back up jobs I've ever heard on a record.
