  • To (Punkguyrich) Why Conor Didn't Keep The Desaparecidos Going Is Cause His Other Group Bright Eyes Just Took Off And He Got Busy With That Group...

But He's Only Doing One More Bright Eyes Record Which Is Coming Out Sometime This Year Or Next And He's Hanging It Up : ( But He Said He Would Like To Do Some More Albums With His Other Band Monsters Of Folk...

I Would Like If He Did Another Desaparecidos Record But I Think It Will Never Gonna Happen.

  • All of Conors bands are AMAZING. Bright Eyes being my fave... this is brilliant though... And as much as i love the MVB... they're my least fave :-/

  • this band NEEDS to make some more music.

    seriously

    i love conor oberst...hes amazing

  • I can understand why Oberst wouldn't want to go on with Desaparecidos. He grew out of this long ago. Probably for the better.

  • This is music.

Im not saying conors other shit isnt good..but this is so much better..so much more passion.

I wish there were more bands that were like this.

  • I beg to differ on the counts that Desaparecidos is better and more passionate. It's all in the ear of the beholder. If you like to rock out that doesn't mean that a louder song is more passionate. Bright Eyes isn't necessarily about passion, it's more insightful and beautiful. This music if much more simpler than Bright Eyes. You could probably take the lyrics from any Desaparecidos song and make it a Bright Eyes tune, it'd just sound different and maybe better.

  • I think Bright Eyes is better because they don't have to be so loud all the time to make their music passionate. They use volume as a tool to emote part of the song, they don't try to overwhelm the listener with distortion and decibals. Again, which is better is ultimately up to the listener, because they really are two DIFFERENT bands, but I love Bright Eyes so much more.

  • Conor sure has gone through the phases and grown up.

What a musical life he has gone through.

  • wow. .

  • look at landon rock the shit out of that bass

  • where is the kid with the chemicals i thought he said to meet him here but im not sure

  • wrong song bud

  • i think he's referencing the name of the user that posted this video.

  • oh, i see how it is lets make me look like a jackass ;)

I'm sorry, i am not very attentive to the names up there.

  • the only reason its called conor oberst and the mystic valley band and not brigh eyes is because mike mogis couldnt be on the record and without him, they arent bright eyes. bright eyes, despite popular opinion, is conor oberst, nate walcott and mike mogis: a band. read a damn magazine before you toss your thoughtless opinion out into cyberspace. knob.

  • yeh it's only been a band since cassadaga. and to be honest it's still mainly conor, he is the centre of it all

  • well in an interview i watched recently conor said he really started to consider bright eyes as a three piece band when they released cassadaga, although nate and mike had been working with him almost constantly from lifted onwards. and..err, he is the centre of it all. he's the central figure. he's the main reason people like bright eyes.

  • no one else does anything?! your the fucking idiot

  • you're a joke.

  • i second that.

  • I third it

  • 4th

  • Fifthed.

  • Learn to spell your insultiee's name, then insult. why did you search him anyway? thats the only way you could come accross this, that or your a complete fruit and clicked his picture under mall of america

  • Wow, your as big of a fag as him. Go kill yourself

  • idiot.

  • To all who say Conor Sold out I present the first line of this song:

"They say it's murder on your folk career,

to make a rock record with the disappeared"

    The disappeared - desaparecidos

  • Best band in 10 years. Best lyrics since Morrissey. Manchester vs. Omaha.

  • So luckey I saw them at Vincent's Ear as a sophomore. Closet thing to real rock in awhile.

  • TURKEY!!!

  • love this song, but a pretty bad video, no offense

  • way better than bright eyes.

  • park ave was a pop rock band with keyboards and girls singing not bad but its not the typical oberst thing... commander venus on the other hand...

  • *conor

  • Is park ave any good? Conner played drums, right?

  • yeh its cool.

    like really indie pop.

its funny you can tell conor is a bit different to them.

Like in a song called "all boy band"

its quite a pretty vocal melody and then at the end conor comes in screaming over the top.

    its awesome ha.

    what a kid

  • and those awful panic at the disco guys as well. matter of fact, the whole fueled by ramen label is just dreadful. oh gosh. vomit..again..lol

  • everything he touches turns out brilliant. the queen of england could cut a record with conor oberst and it would turn out fantastic. and green day SUCKS. oh man i just threw up in my mouth a little thinking about that awful band

  • shut up about green day already

    big suprise,

you're too punk for your pants blah blah blah.

    it's been done.

    just enjoy the oberst

    kthnxbye

  • when was this show?

  • Okay.

I'm going to pitch in my two cents,

and maybe clear up some confusion.

Conor started recording in his own name at Fourteen.

    Then came Commander Venus,

    then Bright Eyes,

then Desaparecidos as a side project, which broke up in a think 2005.

  • I think it was thirteen. But I may be wrong.

  • I heard that commanderbrightaparecidos came before any of them and that their split 7" with slowdowncursivemygoodlife was super rare and hard to get. Is this true?

  • That made me laugh so hard that it's depressing.

  • well actually desaparecidos was a side project. bright eyes was out before...and even before bright eyes it was commander venus.

  • Bright Eyes was before Commader Venus. Conor started recording when he was thirteen as Bright Eyes.

  • conor was recording under his own name. in fact thats not even used it was simply regarded as "water" (though thats the album name). then commander venus and then bright eyes.

  • no, venus was before bright eyes. Conor started recording in high school as venus, then formed bright eyes, and later formed desaparecidos as a side project

  • no. commander venus is something different. cursive + connor

  • Yeah, I love these guys AND Bright Eyes. Even now. You've got to be pretty arrogant and full of yourself to say you could write better songs than Four Winds, Classic Cars, Hot Knives, Soul Singer In A Session Band and If the Brakeman Turns My Way (among others.)

And it's not crummy folk/country. It's more Americana than anything else. He's even got M. Ward on it!

  • M.Ward :)

  • i don't like the new album cassadaga :( it just doesn't have anything in it

but i love bright eyes and coner so much, so at least all the previous albums :)

and Desaparecidos are good i guess...to me it's like he's cheating on bright eyes

    lol

  • actually he had Desaparecidos before bright eyes

  • no he didn't

  • he reaaaaaaaaaaaaally didn't

Solo (like when he was 12...the water album)

    commander venus

Park ave (similar time as the venus)

    bright eyes

desparecidos (same time as bright eyes)

    and now

    The Mystic Valley Band

  • ooh i didnt know what it was actually called, heard the bootleg for like..10, 15? or so new songs at the 400 bar

  • I dislike Cassadaga as well. I think Conor's lost some of his indie "style", and it's becoming more refined. Don't anyone get me wrong, I think that's great, but I really loved his young voice and the sound of all the small mistakes. Maybe that's still there...maybe I don't notice it.

  • i agree it's just not got that deep thing going on, im not really sure how to explain it lol

  • I also love, even more than love, i can't explain, but his solo acoustic stuff.

    Without the band.

with his rough, cracking, young voice.

its so pure and simple, but at the same time full of meaning.

  • you guys just don't get Cassadaga.... i'm sure Conor'd agree it's his best album.....

  • its actually my favorite. so much work went into it. its perfect. im glad he picked a style and went with it, making it his own.

  • yes. me too.

  • I think Cassadaga is my second favourite, after Wide Awake. I love that record. But yes, Cassadaga is definitely brilliant. I played No one would riot for less at a gig, and people told me i really sounded like Oberst!

  • have you heard his new project yet?

    :)

    its very solo based.

though a band appears in most of the songs.

They're called The Mystic Valley Band

  • it's accually called conor oberst and the mystic valley band.

  • no, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley band is a different band altogether. this is the Desaparecidos.

  • i was replying to a different comment i know this is th ddesaparacidos.

  • my comment was made 8 months ago, when the conor oberst addition to the name was not really definite or established.

    get off your high horse.

"it's actually called..." it's the same thing.

  • check it out landon hedges on bass

  • i wish someone would post man, wife, the latter. tell me if they do.

    cheers

  • circa 2002? where have these videos been all my life?

  • thanks so much for posting it

  • looking back on this and then at conor's new stuff, we can easily say he sold out big time.

  • .....how has he sold out? Changing your sound isn't selling out, its called maturing. He hasn't left saddle creek for a larger company or anything, so all we can easily say is that you are a dumbass.

  • dude, conor's music hasn't "matured", it has simply fallen into a crummy folk/country sound which is not what i loved his music for. he started out with a punk/rock/indie genre which i had fallen in love with the first time i heard it. him screaming his lungs out into the mic, pouring his soul into song after song. though, ever since cassadaga came out, i couldn't find a single trace of bright eyes in there. his sound isn't even unique anymore, it just sounds like every other country band.

  • crummy folk/country???? Maybe you just don't appreciate music, because everyone touring with him and everyone who helped record cassadaga is more talented than you will ever be. If you want "punk/rock/indie" go listen to green day or some shit.

  • hey buddy, this isn't about MY talent so stay on topic. i agree that i could never come up with the music he has in the past, nor could i compared to the people he has toured with, but i deffinatly know he can do much better than he is now. and believe it or not, greenday was actually a good band at one point, but eventually they sold out and turned to shit. bright eyes is well on their way to that same destiny.

  • So your saying that they are very talented, but you think they are crummy? In what way have they "sold out"? They could sell more trendy "punk/rock/indie" albums to little hipsters like you than they could ever sell "folk/country." And I don't even want to hear the bullshit you would attempt to spew if I asked how green day was ever a good band...

  • Conor oberst isn't 15 anymore, so I wouldn't want him trying to sit around writing songs about things he isn't going through right now, the music would be fake and untrue, and then maybe we could say he was selling out. But that sounds to me like the kind of music you like, so why don't you sit around and wish for him to sell out and start making shitty punk rock???

  • i totally agree and i think he kinda is selling out but not because of his crap CD cassadaga(like 3 or 4 good songs on the whole CD) but just the way he cares so much about record sales and stuff now, but bright eyes is still awesome 'cause i can still live off their other songs..and green day was good until that american idiot crap hah

  • everything you just said was ridiculous how in any way has conor showed an interest in record sales over the substance of the music?

and two green day has absolutely no talent and no song writing ability, the stuff Conor wrote when he was 13 and released water still runs circles around any green day song past or present... but that should really go without saying

  • you are very right. he didn't sell out, he just changed. i shouldn't have said that. he even says in interviews he doesn't care about record sales. i shouldn't have said that sorry.

  • @yourpoetEliot green day sold out very very long before american idiot. try like.... 1992.

  • No offense, but people change, it's not 'selling out', it's part of life. Their new stuff is still.. abnormal compared to mainstream crapulance.

    Conor is a F'n genius.

  • sold out..bwahaha..um..no

  • this was a completely different style and band to compare this to the new bright eyes stuff is moronic and saying he sold it is even dumber considering he's still recording for saddle creek manages team love records and is still on the fore front on the fight against clear channel...

  • man this band was amazing

  • man, desaparecidos were great. best of the best from saddlecreek.

  • thanks landon for breaking desapareciods up...jerk

  • Man they have a sick drummer.

  • what year was this?

  • my favorite song is still manana.

  • great...

  • lekaw, amikow *_*

  • It's too bad they broke up!

    They can dress dead bodies

    up in tight designer jeans

    DIESEL, PRADA!

    "It looks gooooood!"

    They were amazing. :(

  • there actually talking about coming out with something new

  • Amazing band, I have always loved bright eyes, and i love punk, the combination of oberst and an alternative punkish band is amazing

  • This guy is a fucking genius. Love him.

  • This made my day. Thank you

  • p.s. thanks for the video upload

  • man, i miss this stuff
