That's Lennon popping into the picture at about 3:28. I have just seen comment on songfacts site that he had not yet grown a moustache.; however, he is wearing the wire-rim glasses (had started doing so about the time, just after end of touring, he got haircut to play Private Gripweed in "How I Won the War').
As for the Lennon pictures/footage seen here, I recall seeing something earlier but could not place it.
even if john isnt your favorite beatles, such as in my case (paulie forever) you gotta admit john lennon is HILARIOUS, and this is coming from a kid who, every word that comes outta my mouth is followed by laughing. "follow your nose sir...and madam." god hes soooo funny
@RightBrainProds yes...carbon monoxide is good and you really don't get the "hidden messages" until you've sucked the exhaust pipe enough. Try it and tell us all how you get on?
@impalax327 The message is only "hidden" if you're a slow-witted amoeba with severe mental retardation - which explains why it would seem like a revelation to you, and your resulting pride at having surpassed your limited capacities. But to anyone else, the message is trite and self-sufficient.
I'll leave the sucking of pipes and other oblong objects to your greater expertise, obviously...
Riiiight. John Lennon may have been a prat from time to time and a grumpy Northerner with a rather dark sense of humour the rest of the time- but he never harmed anyone who didn't deserve a kick up the arse. He certainly never killed anyone AFAIK.
Back in the early eighties I had a dubious Beatles bootleg album. Mixed in with real authentic tracks such as "What's the New Maryjane" was this tune.
Am I the only one that recognizes Lennon's vocal assist on L. S. Bumble Bee? For decades PC and DM have denied this, but both Lennon and the song appearing on the same episode leads one to wonder. I believe Lennon is on the record, and Cook's obvious use of John's glasses and hairstyle while lip syncing it add's even more evidence. PC once said it only "sounds like Lennon because I had a cold when I recorded it". Nobody records a record when they have a cold.
Ahhh. I have a bootleg tape that opens with the Lennon scene and then cuts to the song. Since the skit ends with Cook descending below ground level and the song starts with Cook (and Moore) entering a seemingly subterranean lab, I always assumed that that was how it was meant to be watched! - 1b2s
Truly wonderful piece! I've seen the Lennon part before, but the fact that they actually did The L.S. Bumblebee in the same show as well -- now that's even further out there in The Land Of Goose Pimples, many thanks kingkandy!!
The closing song from "Not Only ... But Also" and their earlier TV shows is the song over the closing credits.
"Goodbye-ee" Usually Dudley sang it in a hysterically high voice and played the piano, while Peter would stand by him and sing a litte and dance a little.
I have a tear in my eye. So far ahead of their time, all of them! In fact I don't think there is anything to rival this nowadays... (and no I'm not reliving the glory days - i'm way too young to have been there)
Truly excellent. Thanks for posting this, been wanting to see it for ages! I love the way Dud 'plays' the seagull and waves! Not forgetting Lennon too :) "Follow yer nose sir.. and madam"!!
I don't get it. Clearly this humor is very contextual... I mean you need to know the context to understand it..

This clip is culturally significant because it's the first public appearance Lennon made wearing his 'granny glasses'

@derekdextremist1 that's not necessarily true. Watch this scene of Help: watch?v=VcIHi9E1fMM&t=1m35s (that one is from 1965, this one is from 1966)

Never understood Pete's spoken bit - his "hit ????? Spanish Bee"? What does he say there?
StephanieLives 1 year ago
@StephanieLives
This week's 'bumber bumble' is for Alf Herbert and his Marijuana Brass and their hit waxing "Spanish Bee"
A little reference to the 1965 single "Spanish Flea" by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.

We miss him too.
