This is fucking AWFUL!! They (Fun Loving Criminals) have fucked w/ a masterpiece. All the lush textures are an important part of the song, as far as I'm concerned, and I'm surprised they released this countrified cow pattie.
I know that this song has the form a love song, but it's not. It is one of the most disturbing pieces of music in their arsenal of obsessive, deranged songs. Don't get me wrong, that's not a slam. I think it's amazing how they so easily capture "love" of the emotionally unbalanced.
This song is about some who might just as easily kill as kiss the object of her obsession.
M. Night couldn't make anything this deep in a 90 minute movie.
People keep talking about how romantic it is, and it just chills me when she's says, "I can't take it." And with a line like, "I want to break your heart and give you mine," it's quite obvious that the one telling the story is not playing with a full deck.

Lots of Shirley's lyrics are written to be analyzed on more than one level, they're actually quite deep, dark, and sometimes disturbing when you get past the literal interpretations. Sleep together is another song that she says is always misinterpreted. I think everyone gets hung up on the sexual aspect, but that it's just a metaphor for how we (she) have the desire to be accepted by others and change how we act, and put forward a more desirable yet hollow facade. it doesn't seem so deep to me, it's more like the reflection of the deepest and simplest feeling in the world.
This version is ok, but it cannot be compared to the album one.
