I have the DW8000, and a cassette of sounds bought on Ebay. It has loud keyboard keys, and irritating buttons to select sounds or functions but I love it anyway. Once I have a sound I like I don't notice the keys, etc while playing. The sounds this makes are quite amazing and lush or violent, even cold and eerie. Underrated in my opinion. I also play on a Casio CZ101, Yamaha DX7, and an ARP Odyssey so you understand what this is capable of doing. Where to go next?, maybe Moog or Jupiter 8
The DWGS... a unique hybrid.. I begged a church to let me have the 8000 that was sitting abandoned in a multi-purpose room/storage closet. They wouldn't part with it, mostly out of laziness and ignorance. Then, someone from a nearby apartment complex broke into that room and stole that and a Roland JV-1000 (this was a few years after its release). Probably should have let me have that 8000 huh? Then it wouldn't be south of the border in a pawn shop.
This is just sensational! Thx, for making this demo... I'm going to tbust out my DW right now to try to get as close as I can to this patch right now.
Nice patch ! I dont like modern synth, they focus too much on the wow factor, with uneccesary gadgets. We dont want toys, we want instruments ! There is something "spiritual" about older synth, that was lost over time, Thank you for people like you who keeps them active and forever beautiful
I miss the old "fat-brass" synth sounds of the past. I started out on the Korg Poly 61, I think the DW8000 was right after that or close to it. None of the newer synths can duplicate those great sounds.
Cool job, very close to the CS80 sound... The DW(EX)-8000 is a very good hybrid synth; only the interface is weird (like the mks serie)! Is it possible to download this fine patch somewhere?
Just proves you don't need a CS80. Exellent sound! I'm getting some pretty authentic CS80 type sounds on my JP8000 too- don't laugh! The JP8000 clips on youtube make it seem like a pile of steaming cowdung, but really thats cause of bad programming skills. CS80's and everything else also sound awful if you stick to the presets or dont know what youre doing!
I wasn't all that blown away by this keyboard when it first came out, but I think that was because Korg advertised it as something it wasn't--a true digital synth--when all it was was an digitally-controlled analog synth with some ultra-primitive sample-playback capabilities.
But after hearing this, I have a strong urge to go over to eBay and troll for one :)
I've been trying to find a good non-virtual analog that can do Vangelis-like sounds, and it looks like I've found it.
I have a DW-8000 as well, can you tell me how to touch parameters to obtain your very sound? I love Vangelis, and I think it would be just otstanding to be able to play that sound! thank you in advice!
I'd like to know, too! I never really liked my DW-8000 until I heard this. The sounds in mine are lackluster and programming the sucker can fry your brain unless you're very methodical. Plus, my data slider doesn't really work anymore.
@neutronemission I find the factory presets quite useful. Sure they're boring, and pale in comparison to the sounds of say the MS20, monopoly, or the polysix, but I use them as a starting point. Like, I imagine the sound I want to make and think about what preset is most similar [a lot of the grit bass sound I'm after resemble brass instruments] so I don't have to start from scratch. saves a bit of time considering patch programming is a bitch w/ the DW's layout. MIDI librarian is a must too.
I guess I didn't get a good look the first time, but I thought your paper models were the real things. Thos are pretty good.

agree'd .. i think the CS80 was haunted by a very unique spirit .. one who liked to play tricks on you once ina while by detuning :)

@Karmaneoeric Waldorf synths, few effects deep sound.

This is not unlike the sound I programmed into my DW to emulate the pad in Journey's 'Separate Ways', only I needed a faster attack.
