  • my boyfriend showed me this band.... since then I have fallen in absolute love with this music!!

  • Love this song for so long

  • This EP is so beautiful, its young and happy and free. I love this EP.

  • @Zerb012345 You're missing out man ! sink or swim is probably my favourite album Ever!

  • To me it sounds like Bruce Springsteen trying to combine southern soul, 60s pop and The Clash.

  • @flemingia AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT :D

  • dont make me dance all night alone....

  • TGA was my favorite band based off of ONLY American Slang. Then I went to '59 sound...great album, loved them more. Blight this EP-again, great (this EP is their best work I've heard, I haunt bought Sink Or Swim, but I bet I'm in for a treat when I do)

  • The only SLIGHTLY similar thing about killers and gaslight is the slap back echo effect on Brian's vocals on the '59 sound is a little bit similar to how Brandon Flower's voice sounds sometimes. That's what I think anyway. Apart from that, totally different, and Gaslight is also 10x better.

  • @EastCoast515 Yeah this. I've had my friends say they sound like the killers, which really only shows how little attention they paid to the music.

  • Not to take away from a facinating months long arguement, but is it possible to get this record? I couldn't find a release on google search.

  • @bpnrandall yu can buy the album (actually i tihnk EP is the appropriate word :S) its off from amazon , just type senor and the queen on amazon :)

  • The Gaslight Anthem are a band the Killers could only dream of being.

  • killers?

if there's someone you can compare tga to, it's freakin bruce springsteen.

  • Before i say this i just wanna say a dont dislike the killers but....

Who the fuck would compare TGA to the Killers??

Brian doesnt sound anything like the guy from the Killers.

And as this song and every other song TGA have ever done proves...they are 100 times better than the Killers.

The Killers arent bad but Gaslight are just SO MUCH better

  • Love these guys...thanks for the post.

  • Just sayin' -- I think Brian Fallon sounds like Brian Fallon. Brian (and TGA) have MANY influences, not just the ones everyone always picks out right away. Personally, when I listen to them I just enjoy and love the music, not nit pick every inspiration they've possibly had... but that's just me :)

  • its only the production on the 59 sound vocals that makes him sound similar to brandon flowers. brian has a more gritty passionate voice

  • who the hell are the killers? ohh... them. yeah, you can totally compare them to the Gaslight Anthem.

  • Sound like the killers?! Whaaaaat?! I have nothing against the Killers, they have made a few good songs, but to compare these two bands, well that is just insanity.

Brian Fallon is one of the greatest performers of our time. Music equals joy, and he is one of the few artists that knows that. Great live performer as well!

  • they do sound alot like the killers and thats not a bad thing , i much prefer the gaslight anthem:)

  • can everyone shut up about the killers? i shouldnt have to listen to a great band and then read about how crappy another great band are !

  • the killers were great when they were a rock and roll band. now they sound like metro station.

  • The Gaslight Anthem and the Killers are my two favorite bands. So I'll say first hand that the two are VERY different both lyrics wise and sound wise.

  • Man, Vote up if you dig the sounds these guys make and think that they're gonna bring on the next era of Rock and Roll!!!

  • now everybodys shakin like the end of the world now everybodys waiting on the end of the world and i got a friend baby left in the world.......

  • It's obvious the singer's heavily influenced by springsteen, not the fecking killers. Seriously, know your music before making silly comparisons

  • All i can say, is TGA is one of the best bands i have heard in a long long time, lets just appreciate that together.

  • comparing gaslight to the killers is like comparing bruce Springsteen to adam lambert.

    Please don't do it.

  • A point I want to make to anyone arguing that a band/musician is "mainstream" and therefore not good; You're full of shit, learn to actually appreciate all forms of music. Just because something is mainstream doesn't mean it's not good.

  • @thebocesman Music's music. Mainstream's opinion.

  • pure music from the soul:)

  • jk the killers are alright

  • Gaslight = Great Sound, The Killers = Mainstream Pop Crap

  • okay, are you dumb? i said the styles were different. i even said the gaslight anthem had a better style. all i said is that they had similarities. and that people who can't read or listen to music objectively are fools.

  • Saw them at Leeds fest for the last two years, wanted to make it 3/3 but cant go this year :'(

  • Comment removed

  • you'd be a fool to deny the similarities between the killers and a gaslight anthem. i will admit, yes, the gaslight anthem has a better style and are more passionate, but the harmonies and vocals are very similar around the 1:55-2:13mark. but also, i hear resemblance to modest mouse around 1:27-1:43

  • Comment removed

  • im sorry but hot fuss was a great album by the killers because the music on it was still real and uncommericialised. the gaslight still have that feel and that is why they are a better band

  • Just so everyone knows, the first two lines are from a Sam Cooke song titled 'Havin' a party'.

Brian's a big Sam Cooke fan

  • i didn't know "we're havin a arty, everybody's swingin" was such a rare phrase to whoever said that line is straight from another artist, i dnt get it, this band is original, EVERY song is good, its something u can dance to, relate to, expand ur creative thinking, its truly original and id rather hear this band all day on the radio over the killers, t- pain, and practically everything else u hear on the radio, i want them to become mainstream so they can give new meaning to mainstream music

  • i agree. mainstream music blows. eversince the late 90s all creativity went out window (other than the chili peppers and foo fighters). funny thing is since the late 90s music sales have dropped greatly.

  • You can't blame that on the musicians, I blame that on people downloading rather than buying.. but that's just my opinion.

  • @exnihilo0 it's the industry's fault. their new tactic to make money is to find good looking people, create repetitive, soulless songs, and keep pushing one single into our ears. my generation is growing up, thinking that lousy pop songs are good.

there are many musicians such as gaslight anthem that make good music. they just aren't mainstream.

  • youre damn right!

  • And Oasisv :)

  • Oasis* Lol

  • music sales have gone down due to file sharing not lack of creativity -_-

  • @dwright05 he is saying that that is where the lyrics, because one of the band members is a fan of the original band.

  • This is THEE party song between me and my friends. When we went and saw them a couple months ago they played it at the end of the encore, was an amazing night.

  • "were havin a party" def sounds like a Southside Johnny tribute line. I fucking love the Gaslight Anthem. Great music. But another great reason? They love Bruce Springsteen. And who doesn't want to listen to music that honors Springsteen? I love this stuff. Finally a new good band I can listen to

  • sounds like South Side Johnny

  • honestly, the killers don't hold a candle to the gaslight anthem. gaslight anthem writes music with heart and soul. the killers write pop radio shit

  • @fenderkid61 I'd agree with you, but only their album Day and Age. Hot Fuss has heart and soul written all over it.

But also: Gaslight Anthem > the Killers

  • i agree. i like mr brightside. thats a good song. but yea, after that it's just like no lol

  • @fenderkid61 nah.

  • the only song that sounded similar between them is Old White Lincoln in my opinion and that was when I first heared them.

  • @conventionalattitude i found Old White Lincoln to be a song you cant really compare to anything

  • Brilliant song

On the whole 'Killers' issue; I think there's similarities between the two bands, but there are also lots of differences and the two bands have their own distinctive sounds.

  • my brother loved this band so freaking much, I was just a fan. now that he left to the army i cannot listen to this band anymore because it reminds me of him.

  • @patrickkcore I know how you feel about that, I have a few bands like that too. Hurts too much to listen to it.

  • Comment removed

  • the killers and Gaslight have completly different sounds...they cannot be compared to each other..

both are good in there own way...

but should not be compared to each other...

it's like comparing techno and country...

    so just let it be!

  • @SinJester1 Well the problem here is that Techno is just God awful while Country is fantastic.

  • these guys are fuckin amazing!

  • Other then that i saw these guys live in Calgary Last sunday they were fucking amazing so much energy. They are too damn good. i also chatted with benny before the show he was drinking coffee and i talked to em. After the show i saw Brian and helped him load his equipment. Got his sig on my shirt :D

  • The Gaslight Anthem CANNOT be compared to The Killers. Listen to there other songs. Red At Night, Patient Ferris Wheel. Their album Sink or Swim shows they cant be compared. Also these guys, Benny,Alex,Alex,Brian, do not like being compared to The Killers how do i know? Benny said so on an interview. He fuckn hates the killers

  • I didn't even hear the similarity to the Killers till I read your comment, and now I totally hear it. Whether or not the band likes being compared to another band doesn't mean that there aren't similarities there. And being compared to the Killers isn't such a bad thing since they're a big league rock band at the top of their game.

  • now it would be unfair to compare the two bands. Although the killers have their moments, i feel gaslight is more wholesome. That said before i saw this comparison i came to the similarity between the two bands. If you look at the end of 'we are getting a divorce, you keep the diner' you can sure hear the same feeling as the part from the killers song that says "i got soul, but im not soldier'. its striking how the same they feel

  • Come on now Maria lose the tragic.

Come on now Maria show me some magic.

    :)

  • whats up with compariring the killers with gaslight seems more like you would fight how gaslight sounds like bruce spring and killers vs strokes, you guys are wierd!

  • Brian has a much better voice than that fuck from the killers. its just the reverb they have that sounds anything like the killers

  • i wouldnt compare the killers to gaslight. the killers are shit compared to gaslight.

  • fuck the killers, Fallon plays with intensity, passion and soul. The killers are a generic pop band, who try and write clever lyrics but they come across cheesy and at times almost don't make sense and lines are just put together because they rhyme. Live the Gaslight (who i saw in december) own the Killers(who I unfortunately saw 4 years ago) in terms of performance, sound and energy.

  • Gimme an example of a killers lyric that doesn't make sense. (But I'd agree that TGA smash them live, which is a good sign of a quality band)

  • @UnosDosTres The Killers "Hot Fuss" CD is filled to the brim with emotion and passion, but sadly that's the only CD with that kind of passion :3

But yeah, Gaslight is way better, every single song is perfect.

  • @UnosDosTres The Killers aren't what they used to be. After Sam's Town its no worth it. I am totally jealous that you saw them in 06 they were great then. Hopefully I will see these guys this summer, no Utah date unfortunately.

  • @UnosDosTres : Well said my man!!!

  • @UnosDosTres I think I understand now what people mean when they compare Gaslight to the Killers. I'm a huge Gaslight fan...not so much of a Killers fan (though I respect them), but it's undeniable that the '59 Sound and the Hot Fuss albums both share similar production quality and characteristics. The WAY it sounds is very similar (the reverb on vocals, the sort of 80's drum sound, the guitars), however I think the only song by gaslight that resembles the Killers (regardless of production

  • @UnosDosTres as I was saying.....the only GA song I think that resembles the Killers (regardless of production value) isThe Backseat

  • @UnosDosTres maybe The Killers & The Gaslight Anthem aren't comparable, but I think what people are saying (or at least what I mean) is that Brandon Flowers & Brian Fallons' voices sound very alike.

  • @UnosDosTres no the killers aren't that bad dude. gaslight is just way different (& better). they are not similar.

  • @UnosDosTres wow, haters will hate. Brian at times sounds A LOT like the Killers singer. Their songs also have a similar tone, but Gaslight has a more traditional rock sound. I prefer Gaslight also, but you should be happy a very respectable band like The Killers are famous, and not just the garbage that clutters the radio.

  • @goguyestguygo disagree. if fallon sounds like anyone its springsteen. the only bands that anthem remotely resembles are maybe the clash, the cure, and social distortion.

  • na you got a good point,i mean the beats are punk as fuck, they just sing bluesish but so does social d,and your gonna say there not punk? these cats chyll with bouncing souls and play with punk bbands and there on a punk label,so beats me

  • Killers is glamorous and stadium rock. Gaslight Anthem is much more grounded and punk rock.

Just take a look at the Gaslight guys, theyre covered up in tattoos in punk rock fashion, the Killers wear suits and makeup and shit.

Im not one to judge bands by looks, its the music they should be judged by, but I was just highlighting the difference between the Killers and Gaslight anthem.

Gaslight tours with Alkaline Trio, Thrice, Social Distortion, doesnt sound like Killers to me.

  • i dont really agree with you there these guys are punkinsh but not full blown punk there pretty bluesy if you get down to it so are the killers bands should be heard not seen

  • 'we're havin a party, everybody's swingin' straight from sam cooke's havin a party. great music though.

  • A lot of Gaslight's songs have little snippets of sampled lyrics =]

  • The Gaslight Anthem's music embraces many elements of the Jersey Shore sound. The band has described their sound as "Bruce Springsteen singing for a Cure cover band, with a tinge more aggressionThe group's fondness for Springsteen, a significant influence on their music, is a fact celebrated by fans and criticsone critic wrote, "The Anthem are like something out of speculative fiction: this is what pop music would be if Bruce hadnt listened to his producer, let The Ramones record 'Hungry Heart,'

  • Glad to know you can use Wikipedia.

  • hahahaha i was gonna quote it as wikipedia but i could fit it in one comment

  • Yeah but the difference between the Gaslight Anthem is that the Gaslight Anthem doesn't suck.

  • Bruce Springstein meets H.W.M....Lucero is the shit too...check that out if you like this.

  • true. a lot of reminiscence of The Killers stuff too.

  • I don't get the Killers comparison. They sound nothing alike to me.

  • yeah i agree its more the ramones with against me just the ramones speed in my opinion and also bruce springsteen style lyrics

  • this is wicked all u fwakks owt there gonna eat ur hats!!!

  • Thanks for posting, please add the lyrics in the comment area! Thanks!

  • does anyone know groups that are similar to this?

  • E Street :-)

  • Against Me

  • No way, against me is cool i would even say awesome imba cool, but theirs style is difrent, they are not similar at all.

    (Anyway Against Me! Is GREAT)

  • This band comes out flaunting a unique style that melds the sounds of Bruce Springsteen, Wilson Pickett, and various Motown groups with the rough, emotional grit of Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker

  • these guys rule. five stars. this one and about 10 other songs.

  • ooh this is really good. his voice sounds like the killers, except better.

  • agreed....better gruff, less shouty...i don't think brandon (killers) really shouts so much as he sort of throws his voice up to the notes. brian fallon's voice has a strong rock sound filled with character.

  • I just discovered this band. Freakin amazing!

  • Best band ever. Gods incarnate.

  • Loveeeeeeeeeeee

  • they were fuckin amazing at the reading festival in the uk, been a fan since feb can't wait till they come bac to the uk

  • im seeing them next feburary, i cant wait!!

  • Oh man, is this fucking amazing or what?

  • I really love this song...

  • fucking awesome, thanks for posting.

  • Thank you so much for adding this song. The live version was getting old. You're my hero.

    I love this song. <333

  • yea def. now we've finally got 1 with decent sound
