I have the same garbage can and the racoons got in them. I bought a garbage box to put those same cans inside and got rid of the messes for good. Rubbermade garbage box at any hardware store. Not cheap but worth it.

Lucky for me it's Illegal to harm them in canada on purpose, protected animal (native to the country) I personaly frown apon ppl that hurt them for personal gain
