Most schools have there formal in year 10, then there deb in 11 and valedictory in year 12. also most schools do exams from year 9 onwards, even though they arnt marked by the vcaa for vce, its almost like practice but still go towards your end of year marks :)

i had my formal last week and i just borrowed my friend's dress, didnt buy jewellery, just wore what i had. only got shoes. did my makeup & hair myself and everyone said i looked really good. so i assume you can have a great outfit for nothing, if you already have nice shoes.
