  • part 2?

  • Cool vid, but what did you save the sprite as? A regular .ai file?

  • @albertabeefcowboy84

you can save it to whatever is best for your final output. You can save it as ai if you want to edit it in the future, you can export it as a PSD if you cant to animate them there, or you can save them as PNG's for assets used in a game etc.

  • @danpgrady

Cool thanks! I tend to go on the side of caution and save it as at least a ai file then save as eps to export to photoshop to save it as a psd and as a png for animation purposes.

  • @albertabeefcowboy84

oh yeah for sure! I always save the ai file, and continually hit save every 5 minutes or so just in case Illustrator crashes. You dont need to save it as an EPS file though. You can skip that step and export the layers directly as a PSD. I made a video about that on my channel.

  • @danpgrady

Nice! I always wondered about that! Thnx for the tip.

  • What website is this?

  • @werearewolfs what website is what? a little vague.

  • @werearewolfs this is youtube.com ;)

  • Great tutorial! You should look into teaching an illustrator class. Very clear instructions and useful insight.

  • i cant find the grid tool on cs5.5

  • @xXHomerSimpsonXx

Some tools in the tools panel are hidden under other tools. Some have a little black arrow on the bottom right of the symbol in the tools panel. If you press and hold the mouse over those tools you will gain access to other tools in same category. It will probably show the line segment tool ( / ) look under that. Let me know if that helps. Im using CS5 but i think the Illustrator version in CS5.5 is CS5. I don't think there is an Illustrator 5.5

  • @danpgrady thanks. it turns out i checked all of the little arrows except the line tool.

  • $200...... I dont think so.

  • all cuz you made this video... ive spent the past few hours of my life making 8 bit pixel art! ive made 10 of em already. THANKYOU!! hopefully ill be ahead in my graphic design class at my high school when we learn this stuff :D

  • @nmoraites05

Awesome! yes its addicting, even more fun when you make sprite sheets and start animating them.

  • @danpgrady you should put up a video on how to make sprite sheets and animate them?!

  • @nmoraites05

    okay, look for that soon

  • @danpgrady will do :)

  • omg he has a mac "headshot"

  • @mischa1900

what do you mean? almost all of the design professionals in the field that I know use macs.

  • @danpgrady indeed they do. easier to use :)

  • This is my first youtube comment ever; thats how badly I needed to tell you thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for to finish a school project. Great job.

  • @ceagan79

Wow! If I had a student make me an 8 bit project I would give them an A for sure! school project WIN!

  • thanks for the tutorial, i had been searching for this kind of tutorial.

  • did any body notice he missed a black square on mega man`s gun that bugged me as a mega man fan sorry im picky like that

  • @Defutionable

yeah I noticed I missed that while I was making the video, but I thought it wouldn't matter for the quick tutorial.

  • @Defutionable Me too

  • @Defutionable Did u notice also the eye is messed up, he missed a white pixel

  • @plazmotech

Sorry, I was just trying to show how to perform this technique in illustrator and not trying to make "pixel perfect" artwork.

  • @danpgrady :P Yeah. I loved the tut :D I used it a lot :D Thanks

  • do you know any where to download one of these art things.

  • @xX10tXx

If you are refering to downloading Adobe illustrator, you can purchase it through the adobe website. You can either download it or have them ship out the software. They also sell the software at a good computer store.

The software is NOT cheap but its a worthy investment, student discounts are also available. Do not download an illegal version of this software, support the good companies that create this software.Plus like I said its Illegal.

  • Never even knew about the rectangular grid tool.

    Thanks!

  • Could you make a video showing how to animate these 8bits?

  • ummm... I just realized... artboad tool isnt in Standard version!

  • @Slickster1952 NvmI get it now!

I mad my first pixl art on Adobe Iustrator!

    A bullet Bill!!

  • How do it on CS3 Standard?

  • You should be able to use these same techniques in illustrator CS3. As it contains all the elements necessary (grid tool, live paint)

  • @danpgrady Thnx again Dan!
