  • What an incredible mix of voices. Absolutely amazing. I could listen to this all day long.

  • Old Hoyt befriended a friend of mine who lived near where Hoyt played sometimes (Branson). He would stop by and ask my friend out for coffee a time or two every month. He just wanted a regular person to B.S. with I guess.

  • IT`S BEAUTIFUL WHEN THEY BOTH SING!!!--from Zoe

  • I love to hear Linda sail way up there. So smooth.

  • Wish I had seen him....

  • Last time I saw ole Hoyt was in the Mons Venus, a nude dance club in Tampa

  • can you upload this again in a higher quality, I love this version better than the studio version!

  • First saw this and heard it a few months ago; tis now one of my favourites. Especially as she looks like my first girl friend sixty years ago. Where does the time go; there it was gone :- ) But some things never change.

    rwr

  • What kind of a dink, would dislike this classic, sung by 2 classisc?

  • @SuperRavenman I know what you mean got several copies around myself.

  • It's pure joy to hear this song. I keep its url in my inbox and listen to it frequently. It never disappoints.

  • Axton was a true bass, which is rare in American popular music. Right up there with Johnny Cash, Ernie Ford and Tex Ritter --

  • Hoyt was my brother in a past life..... Of course Linda was my wife.

  • Hoyt Keep your meat hook's off her .

  • That wonderful baritone along with that gorgeous, soaring soprano.

  • First Axton forgets the name of the song, then Ronstadt forgets the words about half way through! If this performance were a minted coin or postage stamp, it would be worth a fortune. Great song. Really takes me back!

  • I went to school with Hoyt, He was a great guy.

  • RIP Hoyt

  • Hoyt was married to my next door neighbors daughter. He came in to town and I had the honor of sitting down to dinner and talking to him. He was a great guy and had some really cool stories. His touring bus was painted sky blue with clouds all over it. He would park it in the street in front of their house. It was easy to tell when he was in town....LOL

  • @7632764 I had a good friend who lived in Branson,Missouri. He met Hoyt in his business. Hoyt would come sometimes at quiting time and just visit for a few minutes or invite him out for a cup of coffee. My friend was not a musician or anyone famous....Hoyt was just a friendly guy....or perhaps loney too.

  • @7632764 Which wife? I 'gotta ask...he was my brother -in law, you could be talkin' about my sister here, and if so I'd love to trade stories!

  • LOL Love Hoyt but hes so dazzled by Lindas beauty here he can't remember the name of the song and I believe he wrote it.

  • A perfect combination. Great song.

  • She's too loud.

  • Their voices sound so great together.

  • will cover THIS

  • I know it's too late ....Keep your meat hook's off her.

  • Awesome song!

  • Great song done by two greats that really sound great together. What else can I say?

  • Great song done by two greats that really sound great together. What else can I say?

  • Is there any way this duet could be migrated over to ITunes? I'd buy it in a second?

  • Hey Earth- cut her a break. She got fat due to a thyroid disorder. As to singing in Spanish what's wrong with that?

  • Wow, against Linda Ronstadt, you can really hear how great Hoyt Axton's voice is.

  • Hoyt Axton had a great voice. Linda Ronstadt was lovely and sang beatifully. Then she started sing in Spanish and got fat. I still love her and collect her English songs. So there!

  • Who are the seven who didn't like this song? Must be rap fans.

  • 2 very great talents. Thanks for posting this

  • Awesome! Linda was so cute in the 70's and Hoyt was great. I love it when they hit the chorus.

  • Strange there are 7 dislikes. Ya know, I've never heard a rap or hip hop "song"? I liked, but then I don't go searching them out on youtube to thumbsdown them. My guess is, some people just have WAY too much time on their hands. Hmmmm. Wonder who that could be? The unemployed maybe?

You the best Hoyt. Miss you.

  • Yes this is a great song. They sing it very well together.

  • Hoyt and Linda RULE!!!!!!!

  • Hoyt Axton was an unassuming, rock solid talent. I only hope that, if and when I arrive in heaven, the angels sing half as well as Miss Linda Rondstadt. The only harmonizing that surpasses this tune is that of Miss Linda with Miss Dolly Parton and Miss Emmylou Harris.

  • As a rhythm guitar picker, this is one of my favorite songs to strum my Martin along with in the good old key of A! It seems to keep my timing in check!

  • Got to see him at the Great American Music Hall in SF...never forget it.

  • A world without Hoyt is a greatly diminished place. Thankfully we'll always have his recordings.

  • Linda Gives Me goosebumps everytime when they hit the chorus.....just a powerful performance from both of them......RIP Hoyt

  • Very nice song two top Countrysingers

  • HIs voice is like buttered caramel...

  • his songs were great.

  • Hoyt was the best, it's a sad life without him.

  • an old treausure

  • Friends I could tell.

  • i had the honor to play harmonica with him on giutar in i place in idaho called bennet

it had a slogan of 2 beers and a piss away as it was out in the middle of noware i was hitchicing thru and he was there i think he wasd an owner of the bar but i was trying to play for a drink and a rest ad he told me to take a load off and use one of the abandonded trailers to sleep in a real nice guy

  • A great singer and song writer. I saw him live several times at the Troubarod and Randy Sparks' "Ledbetters" in L.A.

I wish he were still with us.

  • It's kinda difficult to think Hoyt penned "The Pusher" but guess he struggled with life's difficulties as the rest of us. Linda is amazing in this tune, she's a natural talent. Great song, thanks for posting.

  • Loved this so much I used it for my wedding song :)

  • I have loved country music for over 55 years and have collected songs by hundreds of singers, but to this point, I never really had but a song or two by Hoyt Axton. He is really great and I want to make sure I get many more. What a great voice and many beautiful songs. Thanks for sharing, julianpineirua1. I want definitely to get some cd's of his recordings. Your video just ignited a new search. Thanks again!

  • Country was so much better back then!

  • I never heard this before YouTube. Thanks for posting. Great duet by two greats. She has a powerful voice but can blend with any good singer. Some of the best duets and trios feature her. (like dolly and Emmylou.

  • 1 of my favourite hoyt song's great voice

  • I prefer Baez' way of singing this song and her duet is so amazing!

  • @Baez971 Yeah, I prefer her style of singing on this one too. Linda is great, no debating that (one of the best, actually), but I don't like how she's belting the chorus on this one.

  • ummmm..... * hoyT

  • Hoyt wrote this song for Linda, after the first time they meet.

Hoyt fell in love with her, but his drug use was to much for her to deal with.

  • @CaliforniaainrofilaC Your comment explain alot. Great song & great ppl, and with all respect to Hoyt - I mean him no harm whatsoever - but seriously, you'd have to be baked to make any sense out of those lyrics.. ;)

  • for lorie willalways luv you forever

  • Wow. His music makes me depressed. He was a sad man. Country blues!

  • i love them both sooo much!

  • This is awsome

  • Wow, Linda Ronstad sure was pretty back then. Love this song!

  • @mthivier She still is, in my opinion. But my vision is probably shaded by the fact that she's got more class than any five mortals combined.

  • A wonderful video that brings back many memories. Hoyt was a great and without a doubt underrated by the music industry. The public should have had more exposure to him I agree, he left us too soon!

  • Linda is a saint

  • wow, she's pretty! :D

  • What a sweetheart she is.....was....

  • Beautiful! Fantastic lyrics and harmonies. Excellent video clip~

Thank you! " And when I first saw you, I first loved you... "

  • lucky you.....he must sound interesting when he just speaks....

  • I had the privelidge of shaking this man's hand. Great talent. He left us too soon.

  • @wildhorsestudios1421 .. im related to him.. seriously!!! i never did meet him though:( my grand dad sings his songs a lot to me.

  • @wildhorsestudios1421 You're lucky because I'd have given my right arm for that privilege.

  • @landrykkb roflmao, in fact it was my right arm I put forward. :)

  • @wildhorsestudios1421 v Where did he go?? Hell??

  • @Lindawatcher That's not for me to judge. But Jesus didn't die for nothing.

  • @wildhorsestudios1421

I got to meet him at the Palomino Night Club, in North Hollywood, California, in 1978.

No cover charge, drinks were $2, and gasoline was 50 cents a gallon. What a deal.

  • @gyrgrls Was that the night he got up and sang the dirty version of What'd I say? That was exactly where I met him and shook his hand. 1978 sound about right too.

  • .took me awhile to get use to these two together, but, now it is a favorite

  • Hoyt is one of my all time favourite singers. amazing voice.

  • @guymelanson His album Fearless is classic!! I sure loved that man, what a voice! Linda looks so good here also. She was second to none back then, and still is!!

  • tysm for posting this song...have loved it for 30 years, their harmonies reach into my soul

  • I always loved Hoyt's baritone voice.

  • Their voices go so well together, and when they hit that chorus.. look out. Linda is co cute.

  • Thank so much for posting this! I've never seen it. Hoyt was so talented, and Linda sounds so beautiful on this song.

  • Say what you want but I will say this Hoyt was "ONE HELL OF A SONG WRITER."

  • Love this...thanks for uploading. ;)

  • Excellent

  • Hoyt forgot the name of the song because he looked into her beautifull hypnotic brown eyes for a sec as he started to talk.... I would have forgot where I was lol lol lol.

  • You and me both. Gawd, she was gorgeous and talented. she does these little falsetto notes in this song that I've never heard her do before. Makes fall in love with her all over again. :)

  • The Kingston Trio and The BeeGees did versions of this song. Best I can tell neither is on YouTube.

  • Kingston Trio ? Album ? Title ?

  • October 26, 1999 - almost ten years.

  • I had never heard this song. It reminded me of a gal I met years ago. I wish I could get her to listen to it. Sometimes I wonder if she ever thinks of me.

  • Why should she? Women are like birds, if you don't build them a nest they'll fly to another tree.

  • in reply to Cowboy6591...Hoyt died a few years ago...what a loss. !!

  • I had forgotten how moving her young voice was.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • GREAT .....

  • Greatest Duo in my 40 years experience in the biz, Ya I play a pedal Steel Guitar but LR's voice in harmony with Hoyt's and last but not least the ingenious lyrics from Hoyt, "Ship out on the ocean made of Stone" only Hoyt can come out with poetry so salt of the earth and clever. Love the both of them.

    This proves it, If you heard one love song you have heard them all is a FALSE STATEMENT;

Just ask Hoyt to dream up another one LoL.

This tune knocked my socks off.

  • yeah, really great duo.

  • I will never forget an evening in 1980 -81with Hoyt performing in a small barn in Santa Cruz with about 50 of us. Hoyt brought the house down with a voice that went straight to your heart . This duet is one of the best with two powerful voices and well loved singers, never to be forgotten.

  • Linda is suuuuper hot, never knew that. Hoyt is just the man, I wish I was old enough to be from his era, my dad was a huge fan though and I have great memories of those times.

one more time, how cool is Hoyt...

  • Hoyt Axton was the man, LR sings this really nice and damn that band was tight.

I would kill to play this good.

  • A couple of vocal powerhouses in their prime... great harmonies...

  • One of my favorite duets ever. Thanks for posting.

  • Lion in the winter how cute

  • Thank you!

I have been a fan of Linda since I heard her sing in a free Stone Ponys concert in Indian Park on that hot Ohio Summers' day in 1968. I was alrady a long time Hoyt fan then

  • Their voices complement each other very well indeed.

  • how cute so so cute..

  • Since I found this song on here, I've been playing it over and over. Two of my favorite singers together, and such a song! sigh!

  • I was lucky enough to see Hoyt in Ashland, Oregon; abt 1977 at Southern Oregon College ... and before the concert began, he was watching the audience from his vantage point on a balcony overlooking the large, rowdy audience, as he sipped on a cup of coffee...finally the audience spied him and went to an uproar...he toasted the audience with his cofee and a few minutes later was charming us all on the concert floor with his showmanship, stories and amazing voice...we all miss you Hoyt.

  • Beautiful harmonizing, and Linda was a "10" to me back then. What a sweetheart!!

  • I love it! Hoyt Axton; only the Greatest Singer/Songwriter nobody ever heard of. I've loved his music for 30 years... RIP Hoyt, we miss ya....

  • Hoyt taugt me something on the guitar. If you know how to play something really good, then play that and they'll all think that you're good. Even though you're not. Hoyt was great and I'll miss him............

  • Linda looks like a little girl sittin next to Hoyt,,,man can she sing...and shes such a hottie too!

  • I met Hoyt in a pub in the 60's and I think Linda used to sing with 'The Stone Ponies'.(?)

  • lucky man i would love to put my arm around linda...

RIP old fellow

  • All my apologizes but "la rue du Dragon" is in Paris Saint-Germain-des-Prés, near (50 yards) of Le Café de Flore, Les Deux Magots and la Brasserie Lip. At that times it's was directed by M Rentschler, first secretary at the US Embassy. Enter was free. Now American Cultural Center is Boulevard Raspail Paris .

  • What year, and where was it recorded....Great, simple song.. She was great in her time, but seems to have lost her country soul...or am I wrong?

  • she doesnt have any peers

  • Still love this video. Use to view it all the time months ago. But for some reason was subjected to a "flaming" on her "unoffical" fan club chat forum and the thrill was gone. But it's still a good video. Peace (sign as given by Sly and the Family Stone at end of "Everyday People" video).

  • Looks like A-D-E to me. I don't see a G chord.

  • saw hoyt on an old episode of bonanza the other day,..he was so young..hardly recognized him, he sang a bunch of tunes and a duet with adam..wish i could find it and post some, he played the drifter with the guitar

  • D A G

  • Does anyone know the three chords for this song?

  • Sure looks like Hoyt is playing A, D, and E.

  • Love this song thanks for posting I wartch it almost everyday

  • I know why its dam good. So are other songs of his have uou heard Gypsy Moth?

  • Isn't living in the past wonderful when it comes to such beautiful music????

  • This one just blew me right out of the room; I was just sitting there one evening, bored, hunched over my computer...suddenly: blown away!!!

  • I read these comments and I laugh and I laugh...

  • still one of my favourites

  • i love linda and Hoyt

ive been listening to them since i was born

    no joke

  • Beautiful duet, I love the song. I love Linda Ronstadt and he is a great bonus.

  • great duet.

  • This is such a wonderful song, and Hoyt and Linda singing it is pure heaven. 5-star video for sure.

  • One of them great songs that almost nobody knows. Because nobody ever plays it. But I do.

  • I play it too.

  • That would be Hoyt Axton....vintage.

  • The very reason for music video, right there man, real song, real players, authentic.

  • Linda Ronstadt is the consummate harmony machine... her contributions to the Gram Parsons School of great music alliances is priceless

  • Feel in love with Linda when she was with the Stone Ponies just starting out.I think that was 1967 or 68. What an incredible voice and beautiful too. And Hoyt was such a great songwriter and singer. This song is pure magic.

  • what a beautiful song, coming from two of the great's

  • thier voices just sound so great together....

  • Beautiful beyond words ~ Hoyt was an amazing song writer/musician/man. Linda sounds great with him ...and to think she did not like this song. Wonder if she does now.

  • I met Hoyt once in a pub in Vancouver canada in the late 60's and I was amazed as to what he could with his guitar. He was in town with Gate Mouth Brown, an old blues singer that taught Eric Campten how to play. He's missed but will be remembered.

  • Who is Eric Campten? Did he do anything that ever was popular?

  • I'm sorry. I ment Eric Clampton

  • I guess you meant "Meant" and I guess you meant "Clapton"... Third time's a charm??

  • Linda was beautiful back then

  • She's still beautiful now.

  • Love her so much singing this song. There is one mistake, noticeable after viewing it a gazillion times). No matter, helps to show it was real....Bruce Deile

  • I promised Linda I would never tell, but we were together one night in Tucson and.... well.... I just can't break my promise!

  • Hey kizzitt, I had the same dream...uncanny

  • Super Spic and Fat Boy.... linda so good... and Hoyt also

  • incredible harmony....

  • Love it, very nice song, they sing it great together. They harmonize beautifully together.
