I told my best friend I want this played at my funeral (your video and all). For me this song is so uplifting and full of hope. Some tracks just can bundle up optimism and joy, but also I find this a little lamenting the more I listen to it.
@maurieer No doubt! Man, I would have given anything to have been in Mark's shoes and been chosen by Chet to record an album together. Not a lot of people had that honor. Hank Snow, Merle Travis, Doc Watson and a few others.
@fcrim There were a couple times, if I'm not mistaken, when the chord Mark was playing didn't seem to match the melody notes Chet was playing, but I'm not sure if that was done on purpose.
@daffydoug Actually I didn't daffy. One of the great things about Knopfler is that he can come in late or early, missing notes or starting at an unorthodox position. Didn't notice anything amelodic, if that's a word :)
@BettyAlexander I do play guitar. I've tried over the years to play like Chet, and I've achieved a little, but there are many other guitar players here on Youtube who play Chet much better than I do. Anyway, I've posted my picking on a separate channel. (thedougshowchannel )
@BettyAlexander I wish with all my heart that I could have been friends with Chet! I met him in 1989, and that was one of the most cherished days of my life.
In my heart I felt like we were friends, or like he was a dad to me. I know he was certainly the father of my life long pursuit to become a great guitar player like him!
Actually, when I was a boy, you could say Chet was my hero.
oh my gosh this video adds so much!

I didn't know of this song, are there other songs of them except the album neck and neck?

@stratovanzo There are videos of them together here on Tube, but they only recorded this one album together.

Watched it through for the great visuals, then listened again with my eyes closed. A real journey by my favourite two guitarists ever.

Of course Chet could have. Were you like personal friends with Chet? He seemed to be a down-to-earth person who loved his music and guitar.

Way out in space video!! nice for the music.
BettyAlexander 10 months ago
@BettyAlexander Yeah. This is definitely the spaciest video I have ever made. But it fits the music. Which is the spaciest song Chet ever did!
(Actually the only space song Chet ever recorded.) Would have been cool if he had done the Star Trek theme, but he never did.
But I'll bet he COULD HAVE if he had tried!
